Continued to keep defensive focus.  We'll need to find another way to score since Reinhardt probably won't be unconscious in the second half.  Only four fouls on us, and TWO on them (one offensive) - partly how we played it, though a few bumps and reaches that are often whistles.

Post by: nyg on January 01, 2017, 04:13:14 PM
My goodness, what terrible defense and shot selection last few minutes.  Then two Hauser turnovers, but man is he poised as a freshman.

Too many bunny misses, too many jackup threes, and Cheatham needs to get it together offensively.

Katlin bailed them out in first.  Not bad to be down only one when everyone except KR not on their game.

Agree. Other side is were only down 1 when Katin is the only player that played well offensively. I can handle that. Keep doubling Delgado. Other guys need to step up and hit shots

Delgado isn't going to get solved by many - he is averaging a double double after all.

Luke is screwed on Scoop.  He absolutely needs to get his O going more but he's either 'soft' or getting crucified for fouling here.

Yes.  Without KR, who is 5 for 7, MU is just 8 for 24 from field.  SH shooting 50%.

JJJ and Cheatham keep driving and missing hoping to get foul called, not working, but JJJ had 5 steals.

I feel like we are getting to the hoop but a bunch of layups' are just not falling in.  If Even Steven applies those should start rolling in, in the second half.

Our bigs are being forced to go 3 on one as their guards break down our perimeter D every time. Not much they can do. Fischer has had a solid game.

JJJ is back to bad JJ. Trying to get back an 8 point deficit in 1 possession. Doesn't work that way.

Frustrating on defense.  Wojo says "no layups, foul them" and they give up two layups with no fouling then Fischer commits a foul on the offensive end.

Got to put them on the line when they have a easy shot.  Especially their crapping shooting bigs.

This is hilarious. Just a couple days ago some people were praising this team for closing out games, and the same people are calling them soft and unable to close out games. What a fickle bunch.

My wife knows nothing about basketball and was barely watching. At the end of the game she says, "Sloppy."
This one is squarely on the man at the top. Just horrific coaching at the end of this one.

Can't get a stinkin rebound.  Outscored 6-0 in the 20 second span. Then can't get a shot off. Brutal.

Refs don't call fouls either way and then took the game over with two awful calls. But Fisch and Cheatham deserved to lose.
Refs didnt lose the game. Not hitting bunnies and not rebounding lost the game.

Again our seniors play like freshmen.
I will be so happy to see Johnson graduate. By far my least favorite player. All his good things are so outweighed by his mistakes. And the mistakes are correctable, but he does them over and over again. Unreal.

What?  I have been a Wojo critic but you need to delineate what he did wrong at the end.

Seton Hall players wanted it more. Players fighting for the ball. MU players standing around and feeling bad for themselves.

End of the day, Seton Hall pushed MU out of the way and took the win.

Out rebounded once during a free throw. Okay

2nd time: crap needs to hit the fan

3rd time: Benchings.

I couldn't disagree more. Wojo didn't miss bunnies. Wojo didn't fail to box out. He pulled the right strings and had us in position to win. The players didn't hold up their end.

Agree.  Did I miss him on the floor?  Did the fact that Jjj lost that rebound fall on Would?  And the layups?

Wojo did a lot of good things in this game.    This is on the guys on the floor failing to secure rebounds and then committing dumb fouls.

You are saying getting out-rebounded on the free throw line is a coaching mistake?  Bring in Heldt?  Maybe.  Really don't think that is a coaching issue.

Yup; I've been critical of wojo at times but this isn't on him. He put them in a position to win on the road and the boys just choked, we showed plenty of heart fighting back to take the lead but lack toughness.

Mostly yes, but end of game situational awareness has to fall on the coach too. How do you give a blocking foul on a layup when you're up 3 with under 30 seconds? Either you floor the guy and make sure there is no way in hell the shot is going in, or, preferably, once he's turned the corner you concede the shot - then you're still up 1 with 25 seconds and the best FT shooting team in the country.

Predictable the posters who show up at the end of the game to declare the program dead. Just don't bother watching, OK?  Unfortunate that we fumbled that one away in the last 30 seconds. But what really killed was the three trips down the court in the 30 seconds before that ended up with no points.  Tough game, but we will win more of these.

Leaving now to avoid the post-game kvetch-fest.

A freshman made a freshman play in his first road game.   He played his chico's off today.  He went for the hero draw-the-charge play and failed, leading to a series of failures by the players on the floor, not the coach.

Okay. So you do want our 5'8" PG in for our 7 foot center to rebound free throws. Got it.

To be somewhat fair, Cheats got hacked on that layup with no call.
