I believe Sam Hauser has considerable upside potential. He has grown physically, has a very smooth shot and excellent basketball IQ. His background of playing on championship teams is going to be very beneficial, as I believe he will do very well within a college team concept. Looking forward to seeing him progress over the course of the season and adjust to the Big East pace of play. I think by the end of the season he will be an important contributor to the team.
A young Derrick Wilson, A' aianaaa?
How many high major D1 basketball players didn't play in a winning culture in high school? If you're a high major player chances are you yourself can get your team to a 0.666 win percentage. If you have half way competent teammates you're probably competing at for conference championships and beyond.
That's 3/12, only 9 to go.
Informative stuff.

I'm going to go out on a limb and the say the Stevens Point team had one of the highest basketball IQ's of any team in Wisconsin high school tournament history. Maybe the highest I've seen and I've watched WIAA games since 1969. Sam Hauser was a big part of that IQ.

Proves Wojo is a good coach. I really hated it when we recruited guys with downside potential.
From everything I am hearing, the coaches believe Sam is going to a very important player for our program. In fact they are comparing him favorably to Henry, in that he can do so many things at a very high level , with a much better shot and more refined basketball IQ. It seems like Sam has built some good chemistry with the rest of the team and his game really helps bring out the best in some of the other guys. I am really looking forward to seeing how he does in the tougher non conference games.

Also, you have me concerned now that Sam will leave for the NBA after his freshman year and our best recruiter for Joey will be gone. So now it looks like Sam Hauser will cost us a chance at Joey. Which makes me think that Sam is really a detriment to the program? Should we cut ties with Sam now?

That said, Sam will have more than a single season to make an an impression on fans. It all depends on just how good he can become over his college career, and how well MU does as a team.

Other than pure size , Sam has better skills than Henry. Moreover he is the consummate team player. He will not get a chance to ball hog , take bad shots without penalty and showcase at the expense of the team like Henry did, so he will likely have lower production stats year one but over time if we are going places as a team , Hauser will be the catalyst.

Sam will be great for Marquette. The problem with your thinking of Hank hurting the team and being treated like royalty is that you don't understand basketball.
By your logic, the Cavs let LeBron dominate the ball way too much and need to get guys like Mo Williams and Richard Jefferson way more involved to succeed.

I could see this happening. James allowed me to forget Diener. In the end Diener was the better player and he is also one of my favorite all-time players, but James was very exciting and was so good right out of the gate that I never got to the point I missed Diener. When this team opens up with a win at Vanderbilt vs. a loss to Belmont most fans will of forgotten (not stopped appreciateding) Henry especially if Sam hits some key shots.

Games within a season that have some degree of remembrance and importance (not in any order)
Any NCAA tournament game (even the Michigan State debacle was memorable)
We win a conference tournament (CUSA!)
The annual Wisconsin game until the next year (We have Badger Hate Week for a reason)
Conference games with amazing endings either good or bad (the Jerry F#$#@$# Smith rule)
Games never played (aircraft carrier)
Winning an early season tournament with a benchwarmer going off (Ryan Amaroso Rule)
Truly elite performance against a top ten team (Steve Novak vs. UCONN)
Clinching the conference regular season (Beating St. Johns in OT in 2013)
But some win against 10-8 Butler when MU went 8-10? I hope we have more memorable games than that one very soon.
As far as individual honors in a team game.....they are nice, but I remember Jae Crowder's BE POY because MU had a great conference season and good tourney run.

Haters gone hate. Don't think we even win 17 games without Henry. They were young, inexperienced, and inconsistent. They beat good teams and lost at least 2-3 games to lousy teams due to frosh mistakes. We even had a chance against Nova at the BC but in the end lots of frosh mistakes. So, you think Henry with this year's team would no make a difference?

As I recall we were right there in the last 5 minutes made some stupid turnovers, missed layups, and open jumpers within 15' of the basket. Was at the game, felt they played really well but at the end they blew it, you could see that inexperience really hurt them.
My biggest memory of Amoroso is getting a foul on the free throw line allowing Louisville to steal a game from us. How do you get a foul in a non rebounding opportunity. I do not remember if it was the first free throw on a two shot foul or if Louisville actually made the free throw, but it was totally stupid play by Amoroso.

Well said, Mr Bernstein.
I remain optimistic but we need to see real progress. Now.
Didn't miss this kind of insight.
Agree that Sam Hauser will be a great contributor this year.
Sam will see loads of minutes at the 4. He's got the height and wing span.
Sadly I don't know that he is as aggressive as we need. But that added weight will surely help!
If Sam is the man, the family will love what Wojo did for there son and then could see Joey follow. I do believe Sam and Reinhardt will play the 4 with Cohen, they
will all try at least.

I'm not worried about that. His minutes will depend on how he guards and rebounds. He'll be aggressive enough.

Only because if I don't, MU82 will.
Or what?
Or we'll fail to play in the NIT or the NCAAs for the 4th consecutive year.
MU first played in a postseason tournament in the 1954-55 season. Our current streak of 3 consecutive misses is futility matched only once (1962-65) since. If Wojo breaks that record this year I don't think it means his seat is hot (or even warm). But it will mean that we've been bad for a longer period of time than ever before in modern (or even semi modern) history. To me, anyway, that would be a little troubling.

A very fair answer
The first year Buzz was the coach...Wojo's first year he had no chance with the group he inherited.
Last year was the start of the rebuild with one of the youngest rosters in all of the major conferences.

Not saying you were in this group, but there were plenty of posters last year at this time saying Henry would not be able to defend the 4 and would be consistently in foul trouble. Basically, the posters here have a lot of opinions that turn out to be not very accurate.

Yes you do have a lot of inaccurate opinions........
Henry stayed out of foul trouble because he couldn't defend anyone, let alone the 4.

He got the easy fouls though.
Sam is smooth and disciplined. He doesn't make mistakes. He's a winner who will do what it takes to win.

You might be full of teal but having watched SPASH play, that was a heck of team. It was like Men vs Boys, they just knew what to do. It would not surprise me if mentally he was ahead of the curve relative to freshmen.
Exactly.

Things are tracking well for Sam. I continue to believe he will eclipse Henry in terms of value to our team.
