Sorry - Didnt see the link....welcome to MU Markus!
Nice video.
Welcome Markus!
Jackpot!
So.... 2016 or 2017?
Is he reclassifying or is he arriving in 2017?
Credit to his brother too. That was some high quality video production.
Sweet, well done!
Really well made video. Awesome job...and can't wait to see him on the court.
Very nice. Articulate, respectful of all the programs who recruited him. He's a great addition to the program.
Welcome Markus!
Excellent news! Will be a fine addition to the program.
When I heard he was announcing his choice via a video, I rolled my eyes. But that was very well done. Impressive young man.
Look forward to seeing his killer jump shot.
Will reclassify.
He announced he will be reclassifying to 2016.

Great addition, this kid can play and comes from a top high school b-ball program.
Will be a very interesting competition at the point guard spot prior to season with Carter, who now realizes he is going to have to work real hard in the off season. Now get a quality power guy up front and looking not too bad for next year.
So as of now:
Pg: Howard and Carter
Sg: Cheatham, Wilson and Rowsey
Very nice rotation of guards and again competition will make them better

Good article with quotes from Markus
Add a grad transfer big to replace HankBA and we will be rocking and rolling!
The video was much better than the typical hat ceremony. He also sounds very intelligent.
Awesome!
NO WAY ! ! ! All I have heard here is that Wojo can't recruit... ;) 8-)
Welcome to the family Markus!
And a real quality video. Nice work.
YES!
I knew we had him when he started quoting a verse from the Bible. The kid probably comes from a family where religion is a huge part of their life. Using the Catholic angle to win over recruits is exactly what MU and the rest of the Big East should be doing, especially since kids from religious families are exactly the ones we want representing the school.
Oh, and his verse included "soar on wings like eagles," which was a dead giveaway

You must be a lot of fun to watch movies with.
I agree with you on the religious front -- I seem to remember Buzz played that up - particularly with the parents.
Wow, that was really cool.
Nicely done and welcome to Marquette!

A 5'10" PG/SG committing is bad news for a 6'5" SF/PF...how?
A video of 3+ mins gets you worried...
...but, upon viewing... he was gracious & appreciative of his opportunities thus far. Very well done.
Congratulations to Markus and the entire Marquette men's basketball program. It's great to see a second-straight top recruiting class rounding into shape.
Elite talent lays the foundation for success. Now it's the job of Wojo and his staff to bring out each player's best — and build a a team that plays even better together.
Can't wait until the start of next season. Go Marquette!
Welcome to the family Markus.
Look forward to seeing you at the Bradley Center!
Load up with top quality guards, get a center like Ochefu, and we got a shot at another banner.
Great news. Welcome, Mr. Howard. Wojo get some bigs to go with him.
Great news! great video! Welcome to Marquette.
Wait he mentioned playing for a Duke legend at ASU but not at Marquette? He mentioned playing at a big time program at Baylor but just coming to appreciate Marquette? Better learn who he plays for and the history of Marquette!
But seriously great get, really psyched to have him, welcome to MU and all that jazz.
One more comment. Rather than 'look at me' Markus spent 3 minutes thanking everyone and reflecting on the blessings bestowed upon him. I want kids like that every day.
He said his dream was to play for a high major program, so too bad he has to be in the Big East now.
But seriously, I'm intrigued by what kind of lineups we'll have for next year.

PG: TC 24, Rowsey 8, Howard 8
2/3/4: Cheatham 28, JJJ 28, Duane 28, Cohen 10, Hauser 10, Rowsey 8, Howard 8
C: Fischer 30, Heldter Skelter 10
Wildcards: Anim (does he beef up enough to board & defend at the 4 and get minutes over Sandy & Sam or play the 5 in a very small lineup) & Wally (does he stay or does he go)

I would imagine Rowsey is going to see more than 16 mpg.
Competition for starting spots will be tough. Duane, Jajuan, Traci, and Cheatham all have solid cases to start, while I'm sure Rowsey and Howard will give solid competition. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out, but I don't think anyone can feel assured of starting right now, which I'd say is a good thing.

I think JJJ, Fisch and Cheatham are locks to start just because of their size. That leaves 2 spots for Carter, Rowsey, Howard and Swaggy.
Lot of time before the season but if I had to guess, I think Traci and Rowsey start at least for the beginning of the year.

Two open competitions.Traci, Howard battles for PG. Then a decision about the #4 with numerous options. Regardless, we will need some size unless HE shocks us.

Are you aware that a lot of Protestant faiths really do not respect Roman Catholicism?
Yup. I'm a pastor's kid. But, my parents and I picked Marquette because we knew that a faith-based institution was a good choice for me, coming from a faith based family, even if that faith was slightly different from what I grew up in.
I think the same is true for our recruits who come from faith-based families. Emphasizing the faith angle is a big selling point. It worked for Buzz (some sort of evangelical I think) and it should work for Wojo (a Catholic, if I'm not mistaken).
If the faith angle only worked for Catholics, would we have Bailey, a Mormon, on board?
Rankings only go so far. But with the addition of Markus Howard, 247Sports ranks MU's 2016 class as the 13th best in the country — the highest of any school in the Big East:

I think with the kids MU has, the addition of a class kid, can bring in other kids. It looks like the Markus has a good head on his shoulder and what Al did in his hayday

HUGE get. It's reasonable to not expect much from freshman but I think people are underestimating him and I also expect him to be good enough to start. Big time scorer and shooter and is a top 40 recruit. 247 had him ranked 32nd in 2017 but updated it to have him ranked 39th in 2016.
1 - Howard
2 - Cheatham
3 - JJJ
4 - ??? (Henry I wish)

Very well done to Wojo and staff. Looks like a great kid with a good head on his shoulders.
If we get a 4 that can bang bodies in the BE I'm feeling good about next year. Has to be all out #1 priority now.
Of course, MU needs a big...but I will never turn down a top-30 talent like Howard. Love his shot. Smooth and consistent.
Now lets get a big man---like a 6-10 rebounder. Don't know where we'll get one. Ideas anyone.
Wow video was a bit dramatic imo. But welcome mark

I would assume Howard is more talented than Rowsey, but Rowsey has two years of division one experience and one redshirt season compared to Markus having three years of high school experience. Rowsey has already adapted to shooting three point shots against college competition. I still remember Anthony Pieper getting his first two outside shots blocked. There is a big difference in the time you need to shoot in high school vs. the time you need in college. I have no doubt Markus will become a very good player, but I think he will have a big adjustment period like most freshmen do. The other question I have is whether Wojo will change his offense to run screens for the shooters he is recruiting? Especially since Howard and Rowsey are under 6'.

Does it really matter, no, 31st, 35th or 50th, it is meaningless info. Hauser might be a key component next year if they sign nobody else. Howard, needs to get stronger
and re-shape his body a little bit. I have watched him twice, I think Rowsey and him are the same player, the difference is Rowsey will be a senior in age and Howard

I agree with this analysis. Rowsey is a proven player and will contribute immediately. Markus will be an important contributor once he gets accustomed to the pace and physicality of the college game. We won't know the answer to that until we see him play in the OOC games.

I also am looking forward to watching a team that consistently can make shots, however ...
Let's not kid ourselves about why Villanova is great. Their defense, especially the ball pressure they put on opposing guards, lets them get away with being undersized because it makes it difficult for opponents to feed the post.
Also, Villanova finishes in the lane. I don't have the stats handy, but I believe they outscored a much taller UNC team in the paint.
Naturally, Nova takes care of the ball. Upperclassman guards who know what they are doing. Only 11 TOs per game. Even Brunson, a freshman, had no turnovers in 22 minutes in the biggest game of his young life. It's the culture.
Finally, if Hart and Jenkins are "guards," who will be Marquette's equivalents in the toughness department? Those guys fight opposing bigs pretty darn well.
I want to believe we can be Nova Lite next season and Nova Next in a year or three. Can we?

I also am looking forward to watching a team that consistently can make shots, however ...
Let's not kid ourselves about why Villanova is great. Their defense, especially the ball pressure they put on opposing guards, lets them get away with being undersized because it makes it difficult for opponents to feed the post.
Also, Villanova finishes in the lane. I don't have the stats handy, but I believe they outscored a much taller UNC team in the paint.

Villanova fought for the hard rebounds the entire tournament. The announcers were amazed when UNC got one toward the end.

Comparisons to the national champs will generally look unfavorable. One step at a time and I think we are headed in the right direction at least.

Other than Henry (who is gowne) who on this year's MU team would have made Nova's 8 man rotation? Maybe Luke. We're closer to DePaul right now than to Villanova.

But we're way better than Nova from 4 years ago.
I agree we aren't close to Nova right now but still our rebuilding progression has been remarkably similar to Novas.

If by similar you mean going from terrible to bad with some hope - to hopefully back in the tourney next year. I am excited about the future and hope it continues to go in the right direction - but our trajectory so far can be compared to millions of mediocre teams as easily as it can be compared to a national champ.

True but all those teams don't play in our same conference where there could actually be a valid comparison. I'm not saying next year were going from 13 wins to 20 wins to 29 wins to 30 wins to 35 wins like nova did in five years. But the point is were on a similar track in the first two years so it gives me hope that we'll hit a solid 23 or 24 next year. Heck we were about one collective minute of bad play from 23 this year.

I do not necessarily agree with this. We had a better record this year than they did 4 years age, but I expect their schedule was much tougher.

Well, that would suggest we end up as National Champs...

But we're Closer to Villanova this year as compared to last year. That's a start.
I like the notion that our path is similar to Nova's of a few years ago. It does make sense. And of course we all hope it turns into reality.
Indeed, our histories as basketball schools really are quite similar.

Not sure we're counting the same. 4 years ago they won 13. Yeah, better.
