This is completely off topic but for the love of God beat Rutgers, St. John's. It would be nice to win this event even though it really amounts to nothing.

I'm going high west silver whiskey and ginger beer.
Might switch to tequila at half depending on the score.

Every play should go through ellenson. That should be our guard's first play everytime. Instead they don't even get him the ball.
Let's slow down.. early. But, remember.. the folks who picked Iowa as #9 in the Big Ten are crazy.

Don't sleep on Dale Jones either (Jimmy & Joe's JUCO).
Uthoff, Woodbury, Gesell, Clemmons all seniors with experience...
Jok and Uhl have gotten a good taste.
My boi Andrew Fleming comes into the fold this year as a frosh..

Drive and dish Traci...no forced 3s
A while back I had heard Carter looked like a real sleeper, but he's shown nothing. And his outside shot is brutal.
Is that we just lack brains?
What did Carter think would happen on that shot?
Air ball and offensive foul. Wow.
We are gonna lose by 40
Think Wojo should spend a lot less time worrying about the students and devote that energy to teaching at least an average defense.
ellenson just has not been impressive at all to me
No more 3's from Ellenson.

Only listening, but what's up with all the 3s? Seems so rushed, like the young guys are trying to catch up with just one shot.
Eight out of eleven shots are threes, all misses. Team shoot 16 percent on year. O for 8 ........
Next one who shoots three should be sent to bench. Wojo needs to control this, pretty bad tactics.
Six turnovers means on schedule for over 20 again.

Going to be a very long year. This team will not respond to the coaching staff. Hate to say it but at least the players played hard for buzz. Listened to what he had to say. MU can keep throwing up 3s with zero ramifications.

You have no idea what is going to happen this year. Two weeks ago we had folks here saying St. John's was not going to compete and tonight they knocked off a Big Ten team.
Tonight, we look horrible. You must have quality guards to play at a high level. We don't, and the ones we have are young. But let's see how the react at halftime, how they react the next game, etc.

I'm the eternal optimist, but it's really hard with what we've seen the past two years. Henry is a phenomenal talent, but this team feels like a wasteland around him.
Reminds me of KU in the Final Four.
Only 12 turnovers at the half. That is not so bad, Al has already turned over in his grave at least three dozen times after watching this game from above. Come on back Al, we need you.
It is going to be a long season :(
This team really needed a few grad transfers or JUCOs. It is soft as hell.
I still think this team can do something this season, but that was the low of lows.
Honestly super hard to even watch.
Can't make this up:
MU: 8 for 31, with 2 of 19 from three 19 of 31 shots from three.
Iowa: 19 for 37, with 7 of 14 from three

This will be a story we all tell in a couple of years when these kids have grown up.
Though. When you can't shoot it just packs in the zone even more. Shots have been there, they just can't hit them. For those blaming Henry, not much you can do being doubled and triple teamed every time you touch the ball in the post because nobody can shoot.

You have to want to play D, I thought Wojo would surely bring that. We'll see how they progress this year.

Remember when people used to complain because Buzz wouldn't play freshmen because they didn't play defense, didn't run the offense, didn't understand how to play the way he wanted them to? Seriously If I was coaching would we be worse?
Yes, because every one of those guys wouldn't have chosen MU to play for you. No offense. :)

On the upside, the dog in the halftime show was incredibly talented and entertaining.

Yea and I was one of those guys.
PLAY THE FRESHMAN!!......NO NO NO DONT PLAY THE FRESHMAN!!!...
Is it possible to put everyone on the bench? Might keep the scoring down but it won't hurt the defense and there will be no more turnovers or missed three's.
Quote from: ecompt on November 19, 2015, 09:09:38 PM
This isn't about youth and inexperience. This is a team that cannot effing shoot. And nothing can change that. Two years from now they will still be missing the same shots.
Bingo. Wise man.
Anyone else contemplating hungry JUCO's with chips on their shoulders?
I'm just saying not sure how much coaching I see- at all.
Quote from: tower912 on November 19, 2015, 09:11:56 PM
Remember when people used to complain because Buzz wouldn't play freshmen because they didn't play defense, didn't run the offense, didn't understand how to play the way he wanted them to? And everyone thought he was crazy and holding them back? This is what happens when you are forced to play freshmen heavy minutes.
Seriously though, that is the silver lining in all of this (I said this on here a few days ago)--the freshmen should be pretty well-vetted come BE Tourney time.

BS. Plenty of teams play freshman. we won with james and mcneal playing heavy minutes in an extremely tough conference
Anyone miss Derrick?
Ellenson might be at MU longer than Wojo.

would love a juco or 2. wojo's failure to get a grad transfer in the offseason also really killed this team

No - but that has nothing to do with my dissatisfaction that we have two graham PGs

Good post. The talent IS there...I think.

To quote wojo in the huddle..."we need to get that ball inside...we need to get the ball inside (defeated voice)". What do they do. Jack up 3 threes out of the time out. This team won't respond. That is an issue imo.
Let's go MU! Hope they come out strong.
Black and gold opponent, miserable halftime score at the BC, after what Vandy and Iowa did to us, I hope there's no plans to invite UCF or Southern Miss for a home game any time soon.
JJJ showing his drive again
Wait - an assist!
when Henry passes on the break it is better for us.
The BC is the loudest it's been since the tip and we're down 21. SMDH.
We need another 3 attempt. To break up our first run.
Ill advised shot from Ellenson. Good start to the half otherwise.
A whole minute of pride!
Hey some D, a little
Tower, just now read your post about freshmen - right on. As Al said, the old thing about freshmen is they become sophomores.

Shut up Tower. Buzz didn't know how to play his players. Wojo doesn't know how to play his players.
JJJ heating up...
Henry and 4 non-freshmen.
Cohen should be starting.
Wow, Ellenson is weak underneath.
HE is getting stripped a lot. He will learn.

If he sticks around for year 2, he will live in the weight room next summer.
JJJ on drive looks good again. We need to build some strategy around this skill going forward.
Yea, Iowa may have a better BB team but we have Real Chili.

IF he sticks around? Is he transferring? He sure as hell won't be in the NBA. Someday he may be a fine pro, but he needs a minimum of two and probably three years to even think of pro ball.
wojo may be the next steve lavin. gets big time recruits, but has teams that are undisciplined and under-perform

LOL Watching this he'll improve and develop a lot more as the 10th man on an NBA bench than he will with another year of this.

You people are a joke.
For those who've watched Ellenson a lot in high school, what were his strong points.
He can't shoot from the outside and is overpowered underneath.
He does dribble nicely out of the break, though.
We will beat DePaul. You heard it here first.
What happened to slapping the backboard when a shot is up being goal tending.
Carter needs more discipline in his shot selection.
JJJ has been the one bright spot. Kind of.
Just got here....this looks ugly

How about St. John's, the team that EVERYONE predicts to be last place?
Nicholas Baer. So Iowa has a freshman walk on playing against us with over 12:00 left in the game?

I'm in this camp....I expected a lot more because of the hype of recruit rankings....o did not expect to get blown out at home by Iowa....but, painful as it is to watch....these guys have talent...oodles of talent....and it is game 3. They will get better as will Wojo. So, the suffering at some point, this year or next, will be eased with success

Where is this "oodles of talent?" Talent at doing what exactly?
You guys are imagining things. They can't shoot!

Is this the time when someone says, "respect the process"?
So frustrating to watch. I really hope we get this figured out by conference time. Not sure I can take a second irrelevant year.
Way too many three point attempts, turnovers, and horrible defensive plays. I'm grabbing a glass of Woodford and going to bed.
Ugh, as I type that we take a three out of a TV timeout. We made it but I slightly wish we hadn't. Just a bad play call given our history tonight.

Third....we were irrelevent Buzz's last year....remember? Picked to win the Big East, played like crap all year.
Remember the good old days when we could beat NJIT?

He was a good high school big man who was unfortunately overly hyped. He had a couple of good AAU events that sent his stock higher than it should have been. I still think he has good potential for us as a four year player.

Ners, you haven't changed
We have talented kids, but like kids, they don't play enough defense and don't shoot. Keep this group together and they could be good in a year or two. Just hard to see optimism this year. There's no point guard who is ready, no leadership, and a poorly construed offensive gameplan.
I do believe they will improve, but the gap between where they are now and where I thought they could be preseason is so immense. Just disappointing to see this much on paper talent unable to translate on court.

You are in another camp....fine. it is the 3rd game of a college career for many of these kids. You don't see talent in Duane (remember some break out games last year), cheatham, Henry, sandy, Luke, etc....okay....then what talent should we be recruiting? They didn't deliver tonight...it is early on the season for one of the most inexperienced teams in the NCAA. I still have hope. By the way, I graduated in 1988 and witnessed a basketball program with D3 talent by the end of my tone...this is much different
We will get better. Wojo will learn from this. It may take longer than we thought, but this team will be much better in February.
JJJ had a nice drive again. Hope his leg is ok.

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder... I really hope we get this going. Lots of talent here.
Better chemistry, better coaching, better shooting, better defense. No floor leader. HE needs to play inside until he can defend, they sagged the whole game because we can't hit any shots. A total embarrassment!

Yea, but just wait until next year!
We held them to under 100 and got above 50 ourselves.
I would not have taken that as a bet at the end of the first half.
Other than that, I'm not sure what to conclude. I fear that even if (when) we start playing more effectively, our lack of outside shooting will keep us in the basement of the BE. Yes, we have talent, but I fear our "mix" is wrong.
