#2 for each, but means little. Wojo still working on others. I still believe Bailey comes here.. My opinion.

Bailey as a 2016 or post-mission? Not trying to speculate he's even considering it...but figured that's what the board is for.
Thanks for the info BD. Always appreciate it, even when there's bad news. Now, who is Wojo after? Rivers apparently but that's the only name I know.
I assume Bailey is still mission bound but it's always possible he changes his mind.
My gut feel is that Wojo now waits til this spring and pulls in a high quality grad transfer PF to replace the NBA-bound Henry.

I would be ok with wojo taking a flier on Antetokounmpo as well but I hope that he chooses to prep for a year and then come to MU

Haven't talk to Wojo, but I doubt he is completely bummed, he is super psyched about this season and the team he has. How the team performs this year is far more important than this. But recruiting still is going on.

I just don't see why Kostas would go to prep school. He already has offers from Memphis and Iowa State, and if he develops like some people think he might, he might not even be a 4 year player anyway.

Kostas has
a lot of developing to do. Let's see if he can finally start for his high school team this year. (Even Ners did that).

Big Daddy, I think you may have touched on this maybe shortly after Wojo was hired, but I cannot remember. Early in Buzz's tenure I think many (including myself) felt like Buzz was a lifer. Up until the last 2 years of his tenure it seemed like he was a good fit. Then we know what happened.
I think people here assume that Wojo will not be a lifer at Marquette. Now, if Duke comes calling because Wojo has great success at MU, I understand that it'll be pretty much impossible for Wojo not to return back to Duke. But from everything I have heard, Wojo feels like he has everything he needs to turn Marquette into the type of program that Duke is, and that it is going to take
a lot for Wojo to be taken away from Marquette. From day one I have heard about Wojo's "vision" for the program, and nothing I have heard suggests this has faltered in any way. It sounds like his enthusiasm for the program and where he can take the program has no limits. Do you get the same feeling?

The real issue is that you have 12 good players potentially coming back, so if there is somebody else out there, that kid would really have to be good to get playing time, it is more important to be looking at replacing Fisher in two years and Henry as well. 2017 will be an important recruiting year for WOJO, particularly for bigs.

Agreed. I wouldn't be surprised to see us fill the last 2016 spot with a transfer. I don't believe Wojo signs guys who aren't quality ball players, and quality freshmen ball players will be intimidated by the roster we have. Unless you are legit 5 star prospect, you aren't getting playing time next season (unless Henry and others leave). Hell, you must likely won't get playing time for the next two seasons because of how young the roster is.
I think 2016 will be a "down" recruiting year by our standards. I think we get Hauser and a transfer (I also feel good about Bailey but he's basically a 2018 recruit). Maybe more if Henry goes pro. Wojo will need to "make up" for 2016 with a great 2017 class. I think he will do that and more. I think we could see a monster 2017 class. I feel good about the Markus Howard kid and the Jordan Poole kid. Throw in a couple of bigs (Theo John and ???) and lock up Joey Hauser for 2018 and I think you can call it a day.
Kostas could be an option for 2016. He seems more like an athlete than a basketball player at this point and I know Wojo wants basketball players. But taking an athlete with great size and an impressive pedigree from your own backyard doesn't seem like that bad of an option.

I will not argue against you. Though remember that "fan" is short for "fanatic". So I doubt we are as rational as we should be with regard to our teams.
And as an aside, probably a real good reason to never bet on a team which one is a "fan" of. ;)

Never asked the question and hard to deal with hypothetical's. What a I can say is Wojo is genuinely excited to be at MU and is a pig and not a chicken towards his team. He is devoted to make this program tops in the Big East.
FYI difference between a chicken and a Pig? If you have ham and eggs for breakfast the chicken contributed to the meal. However the pig is fully committed to the meal.

Based on what sample size? Assistant coaches leave for new, higher paying assistant jobs all the time. Then he had 1 year at UNO while they were recovering from a hurricane, and was offered what was probably a higher paying position as an assistant at a high major. I don't think you could look at what Buzz had done prior to being at Marquette and conclude, "This guy's never going to stop jumping from job to job."

I personally really like this strategy. Like others have said, many kids will shy away because of the apparent lack of playing time. Assuming Kostas has the right 'I'll do anything you want, coach' attitude and understands that he'll need to improve to see the court, I have no problem with him as the #13 scholly.

I think Kostas would be good here because he could redshirt his first year due to his lack of PT. This would give him a year to develop under Wojo and that's way better than any prep school out there. But also I think we need to stop acting like if we offer him he's ours. Temper our expectations he has good school recruiting him already. Although with that said I do think he would want to come here haha

I have no factual basis in this but somehow I believe that his family would really like him to be able to stay home for college. I'm not saying he'd forgo Memphis for UWM but I do think MU gets him if we offer and I also believe he'll wait on Wojo if there's interest.

Because the upside seems limitless. His older brother is on the way toward stardom. I know that doesn't always apply but it's not like Kostas is 5'11" or something. Remember, we're talking 13th scholly. That's one seat up the bench from Mache.
Now I will say that if Wojo can keep him in his hip pocket through Fall signing so he still has his 13th to dangle.....

Absolutely. He was gone if Buzz stayed, period.
If you want to look on the bright side, whiffing on recruits always leaves you open to a high-level transfer.

What if his name was Kostas Mbao? Then what would people think?
Anyway, the recruiting sites just updated their rankings this month. Let's see where they have Kostas.
247 Composite 87 (this is heavily slanted by 247's outlier ranking for Kostas)
247 Top 100 48 (was as high as 21)
Scout NR-one of twenty-six 4 star players outside top 100 (107 if they're listed in ranking order; down from a high of 69)
Rivals NR in top 150 (was in top 100, I think it was 84)
ESPN NR (don't think he ever was)
It doesn't look like he broke out over the summer based on these trends. Kostas remains a project. I think Wojo offers Kostas when Kostas earns the offer. Until then Wojo is looking to do better.

1) Of course we'd have no interest. But the sibling connection simply can't be totally ignored. And while I haven't seen him play, to compare a borderline Top 100 to Mbao is a bit of a stretch, isn't it?
2) No disagreement from me. I'm not suggesting we offer today. I like keeping that 13th in my pocket. If he waits, great. If not, God bless him.

No, you can't completely ignore the sibling connection but at the same time be careful not to overvalue it. I think the rankings are largely inflated due to who Kostas' older brother is. His EYBL stats were quite poor on a 1-13 team and he was the 6th man for Dominican last year. Skill wise I don't think Kostas is anywhere close to being a borderline top 100 player based on the few times I've seen him.
I do see the potential if Kostas grows into his body, gains coordination, and develops his skills but that is a long way off. I had to shake my head at the comment someone made about Kostas not being a 4 year player. I think it will take at least 2-3 years for him to develop into a serviceable player. Kostas may or may not ever be a star; he might not even develop and ends up having a career impact of Yous Mbao. We shall see.

I agree that the season is more important right now. Wojo is a good recruiter, he needs to show some winning and we will get plenty of talent.
Looking at the 16-17 roster, if Henry stays, the team is 12 deep and the only question is who backs up Henry. If a recruit really wants instant PT, he is going elsewhere. If Henry goes, then a pair of stretch 4's would be great. However, if we fail to land one, there will still be Sandy, Wally, Hauser, Haanif, Sacar, JJJ, all in the mix to play the 3-4. I would be absolutely, positively stunned if Wojo lands an impact recruit this fall. And whether he lands one in the spring depends on what Henry does.

I agree completely (with the possible exception of JJJ in the convo as a 4). I am also excited to see if Sandy can take another step. We already know he's bigger and stronger. If he can also be more confident with his outside shot and help defense, he can be a vital member of the rotation.

Maybe Wojo could adopt him, a'ina?
But then Big Bro can't pay for his education like Juice did for Toddler, ain'a?
To summarize the no good very bad recruiting week in ascending order of suckiness:
1. Javin Montgomery-DeLaurier trims his list to six, no Marquette
2. Cassius Winston commits to the Izzone
3. JUCO Emmanuel Malou commits to Iowa State
4. Amir Coffey is seemingly cooling on Marquette
5. Lamar Stevens commits to Penn State
6. 2017 Kobe King commits to the Vadgers
That is a rough recruiting week. We are down to... well... nobody in the 2016 class. All known targets are now committed elsewhere.... besides Brendan Bailey. I really hope we get Bailey but he's basically a 2018 recruit. It's back to the drawing board for Wojo. I really think that last scholarship goes to a transfer.

I agree that the season is more important right now. Wojo is a good recruiter, he needs to show some winning and we will get plenty of talent.

Relax. There was a Tweet a week or so ago that had Wojo visiting a player who may have never been mentioned on this board. The kid has local ties and is playing at a JUCO. Did he get an offer? Can MU match his JUCO credits?
This particular player is talented enough to come in and help right away, but the point is that Wojo is probably looking at a few players that none of us know he and the staff have inquired about. No use in rushing to fill one spot.

Let's not discount or forget about Sam please. I'm in agreement that Wojo will almost certainly wait until Spring now for #13.

Sam was the top target and he's still committed, which is not only good for 2016 but also a potential positive for 2018.
The reality is unless you're Duke or Kentucky, very few schools will match a class like Wojo reeled in last year. While Stevens may play the 4 in college, both him and Coffey at a glance are 2/3 types, and we currently have 7 players at those positions that project to still be here when those guys would arrive on campus (Jajuan, Wally, Duane, Sandy, Cheatham, Anim, Hauser).
At the 4, we could have time, but if Henry would stay, that's a big roadblock to playing time. Wojo hunted some more big game and lost. That was always likely to happen sooner rather than later. Last year he found two solid looking players late in Carter and Anim. Hopefully he can work some of that magic again. With our entire scholarship roster eligible to be together the next two years, it's hardly time to be worried about recruiting.
Who is MU's all time leader in assists and steals? Think Traci can reach either of those two milestones?

956 is the Tony Miller assist record, an incredible 324 above DJ, who is in second place. Steal leader is Jerel at 287.

Assuming Carter stayed healthy and Marquette played a full schedule averaging one win in both the BET and NCAA each year, Carter would need to average over 6.8 apg to equal Miller.
Probably close to unbreakable, especially as Miller finished his career ranked in the top 5 in NCAA history. He's now ranked 8th.

So you're saying that Marquette should plan on winning at least three BET & NCAA games every year to make it easier for Carter....

Making it to the Big East and NCAA Finals each year would make it much easier. If he played 39 games per year he'd "only" need to average about 6.1 apg.
My word, Tony was ridiculously good.

30 second shot clock may help Tracis cause. Still s ton of assists though.

Just a heads up - I've seen ninety different spellings over the years, but I think the correct one is Darrlyn.
Ran with The Family (Detroit) in the 2013 EYBL season.. he rebounded well (13% OR, 19.5% DR) but struggled shooting (24/62 2FG = 38.7%; only 3 3FGA). 20% usage, only 17% shots; 19% turnover rate was high for his player type.
Certainly has 'the look', but wasn't there from what I saw two years ago. That said, he may be much improved.
Despite what videos may show, I don't think he's a guy that will ever stretch things out.. mid-range game is fine, but he's an interior guy on offense.
Relative to MU's projected needs, though.. at a high-level he's a fit.
Goes by Darral to people he knows and on Twitter.
Story on some of the things that held him back early in his high school years.

Miller benefited from three years as the point guard for a Jim McIlvaine and Damon Key frontline combination. Now if Traci could just get three years with Henry and Luke....
No one is going to give Luke an extra year of eligibility.

Too many bigs are shying away from the post these days. It's great to see that that isn't the case with Darrlyn. JUCO stats show no three point attempts last year.
Stretch fours can create matchup magic, but you have to have the shot in order to do it. those who don't and try anyway can really hurt their team. I'm not positive, but I think that that's been a problem with Tommy Hamilton at DePaul, so far.

I watched him yesterday in fall ball league and he doesn't even stand out in that format other than he is tall. He is athletic, but he doesn't really have true basketball skills. I guess he could get there eventually with some serious commitment/training, but he is going to be a senior. Has the body to play D, just isn't remotely in the same class as say, an Amir Coffee.
