Title: Sad story locally
Post by: ChicosBailBonds on September 10, 2015, 10:09:29 AM
Three brothers (all kids age 8 to 12) killed and then father turns knife on himself and stabs as well.  Critical condition.

Why is this on the political board? There is nothing political about it.

It is a sad story, you're right about that, and should have been on The Superbar.

Unless he wanted to politicize a stabbing... but who on earth would want to politicize the horrendous situation where three very young children were stabbed.

Yeah, the only politicizing on murders are when a gun is used. That must be the qualifier.

I like the cut of your jib fellas, but feel like you've missed conversations here on the Politics board the last few months.  This post wasn't about an air show.

Let's review if this sad, local story, fits the bill

Black on black crime  (from the politics board).  Check
Death by knife higher than rifles in USA (from the politics board).  Check
Claim that suicides don't happen with knives which is why guns should be banned (from the politics board).  Check
Mental illness \ keep guns away from them as that will stop gun crimes (from the politics board).  Check
Death penalty for this murderer? (from the politics board).  Check

No, this story is exactly where it is supposed to be....on this board.

Crazy, lunatic, deranged people will do harm to others regardless of what laws are passed or what fairy tale world others think they live in.  It is tragic and sad, but that's the deal. Let's start to assign the blame on the people committing these acts, punishing them appropriately by removing them from God's green earth, and stop the nonsense of assigning blame on the instrument of death.  Crazy lunatics will just use another instrument.

But knives are controlled there was no massive group sh*tting themselves that their rights were being taken away when laws were passed banning switch blades or blades of a certain length. Meanwhile you even mention gun regulation to decrease some violence, people go nuts. And I'm quit certain that since the constitution was written in the 1700s that knives were just as much a part of the whole right to bare arms as guns were.

Absolutely, I agree. Every kid born in the U.S. should get a rifle with his birth certificate. And we must ban knives and blunt objects.

Keep on keepin' on, Chicos. You're a hoot.

Don't like guns.  Check

Put this story exactly where it was supposed to go...on this board.  Check

That seems silly to give a baby a rifle, their arms aren't long enough and their heads can't be held up enough to see down the site.

I don't think we should ban knives or blunt objects.  Same reason we shouldn't ban guns.  Crazy people do crazy things with tools, implements, machines....these inanimate objects don't act on their own....cuz they are inanimate.

If knives were actually capable of doing more harm than guns we'd be fighting wars with knives and we'd be living by the rules the Cherokee and other tribes set up.

Correct.  This is why when guns were banned in the UK, the murder rate went UP.  People find another way to do what they are going to do.  Suicide is another one.  I love the argument that guns cause suicides.  Uhm, no they don't.  Having had to experience this with someone in my family, they want to kill themselves they find all kinds of creative ways to do it.

This is why this thread belongs where it was....in the political section, but ghosts in the machine.  I'm guessing a screenwriter from So. Cal...the rain makes people do silly things out here.

I've already surrendered on this. Hence my call for more and more and more guns. If I run for office -- and I might -- my platform will be guns and birth certificates (in that order) will be issued to every newborn.

It will work because it's the opposite of what England did.

Meanwhile, it sure is a sad story about those knife deaths. Because that was the post's original purpose, to just make us remember that fine family.

You really are a piece of work. Any statistic can be manipulated to prove a point.  Any single example can be an exception.  You're telling me if someone is driven to kill they are going to find a way?  Stunning.

Can a lunatic find a way to commit a horrible crime even if there were more restrictions in place?  Of course.

Can more restrictions prevent a lunatic from committing mass casualties that otherwise wouldn't have happened?  Of course.

There's no perfect solution.  Fortunately, I've never lost someone to any kind of violent crime.  However, if I had and I was reading this message board I would be astounded at what a complete and total a-hole you are.

Mods - Feel free to temporarily ban me but I don't think this deserves anything more.

Cheers.

The South Side of Chicago has had a rash of kids killed by stray bullets and simply being too close to gang activity.  Murders may have went up in the UK, but I doubt that is a problem.  Nobody accidentally being killed by a stray knife in a drive by knifing.

Poor, poor, Chico. YOU had to deal with a suicide committed by "someone in your family" (a distant cousin, maybe?). So you're an expert and you've decided the availability of a gun at the wrong moment isn't a factor.

Well, I'll see your anecdote and raise you one. My older brother (by 13 months), not just "someone in my family" committed suicide 11 years ago last July. I won't get into particulars, but the act was event driven, spur of the moment. And a gun was available. Would you be kind enough to write my brother's widow, children and grandchildren to explain your theory that the gun at just the right moment only spared them a "more creative" dead husband/father/grandfather? On second thought, maybe just go frack yourself instead.

You miss the point.  Sure, some people are killed by collateral damage of bullets, etc.  THe more important point is that guns were taken away and the argument was it would lower the murder rates.  In fact, murder rates went up.  Why?  Because criminals will still find a way, that's what they do.

An update on this sad story.  The father has survived and due in court.  Because he killed multiple people, he is up for the death penalty (see, if you only kill one person out here, well that's ok....3 squares and a cot), but because it was more than one then you can be up for the death penalty.  Of course that means out here he will get to ride that out for 35 years with appeals.....three young children, stabbed to death in the back of their car.

Imagine, if he had done it with a gun, the outrage and the screams to ban guns.  But, he did it with a knife...so...uhm.....

I think we need one more board to go with Hangin' at the Al, The Superbar, Trading Post, Prediction Board and Politics.

We can call it Chicos' Carving Station, and he can post a link to every story involving murders perpetrated by knife.

This will give him the proper outlet to "prove" unequivocally that knives are far more dangerous than guns (which, remember, he "doesn't like").

Buried on Page 4 of today's Charlotte Observer:

Two people were killed and a third was seriously injured when gunfire erupted after a domestic dispute Saturday night in northwest Charlotte.

Officers ... found a woman and a man dead of gunshot wounds and a second man with a potentially life-threatening bullet wound.

The man who survived has not been identified. ... He and the woman were formerly involved in a relationship.

The killings would be the sixth and seventh domestic-violence-related homicides in 2015, about double last year's total.

I'd call this story "sad," but Chicos only gives permission to use that word in describing knife murders.

Guns and domestic arguments are often a lethal combination, but obviously not nearly as lethal as ball-peen hammers and domestic arguments. And certainly not as lethal as knives!

Oh, and as I said, it was a small story buried inside the paper, but I'm sure the evil, left-wing media was still displaying its anti-gun crusade. I'm just surprised the shooter could even get a gun after Obama took 'em all away!

One thing I will say is that you sure as hell wouldn't post that sad story on Scoop. And I don't blame you. I mean, when would you find the time when it's your sworn duty to post every knife incident?
