There might be some truth to that.
See the 'Luke Fischer' thread.
Unfortunate news for Indiana. Every time it appears they have finally turned a corner, they appear to walk right into a stop sign. Regardless of whether not these types of incidents should (or should not be) representative upon the head coach, it is very reflective of the basketball program and the leadership in charge. For whatever reason, whether it is under Tom Crean or Kelvin Sampson, Indiana players seemingly cannot consistently stay out of trouble and out of the news.
Bottom line, the fact remains: Indiana has made just three Sweet 16's since 2000, and has finished a season in the top-25 during that span just four times. That's not reflective of a Tom Crean, a Kelvin Sampson or a Mike Davis - that is reflective of the legacy of Bobby Knight (a era of success which suggests is not repeatable).

So, you are saying they are no longer elite. Their basketball program is average. And they have had an extended run of poor off court decisions by their players. Fair enough.
Vodka, the clearest of the clear liquors, you'll never let me down.
Because it only matters when athletes do the drinking, who cares about the other 87% of students who under age drink.

According to IU athletic director Fred Glass, who spoke to reporters on Wednesday morning, McRobbie "read the riot act" to the school's athletic department on Tuesday. Glass said the school had not yet come to decision with regard to discipline for either Holt or Bryant, but he had discussed their situations with head coach Tom Crean.
"What I do not want to see is any more stories of repeated student misbehavior," McRobbie told members of the athletic department, according to meeting notes obtained by the Indy Star. "They embarrass the university, they embarrass all of you in Athletics, and they are a complete distraction from our primary role as an educational institution.
"This misbehavior simply has to stop. I expect all of you to ensure that my message is heard loud and clear by all student athletes."
In the last two years, Indiana's basketball program has had 11 citations, arrests or drug suspensions, according to a report from the Indy Star, which has left many fans and alumni wondering whether it's time for McRobbie to intervene.
Looks like the chit's 'bout ta hit the fan in Bloomin'ton, ai na?

it's not the underage drinking, it's the lack of oversight, discipline and institutional control at the Indiana land grant University.

Eh. He's not going anywhere. Actually, if they were to somehow fail to make the tournament this year (or fail to get a decent seed or make some noise) given the high expectations, they probably will have to make a move, but that seems unlikely.
I have never been a big Crean supporter. Was glad when he left. Have always thought that Chicos over the top support was cooky.
I was at an event a few months ago and was introduced to a former player by some common friends. Player tells a humorous story involving the player missing a summer workout that was sorta scheduled but sorta not. I assumed from way the story was coming out that the player was gonna come down hard on CTC. While he acknowledged that Crean was a dick about the situation, he went out of his way to praise the guy.
Helped me understand Chicos, and the players, views a little better.

The irony there is that I think he's a huge dick, but I also have spoken to many of players that played for him, coaches who have coached with him, administrators that have worked with him, etc. It's a love hate thing. Many really love the dude, many really hate him. There's not a lot of middle room. I think it pisses off people here that not 100% of people hate the guy all the time like some of the posters here do.... and God forbid if you point that out.

What's even funnier is if one single poster would move past the insane defense of a guy he claims he thinks is "a dick" then at least half of the stuff that turns into Tom Crean bashing would stop. I know almost 100% of my Crean bashing would stop. It's just way too fun to see you, without fail, come screaming and crying in your boyfriend's defense, "calling a spade a spade," claiming "inside info" that you just can't share with us but only if we knew what the almighty chicoloop knew then we would understand, but holding another college coach to a complete double standard. As you say, it really is hilarious.
I4 is about winning, not education.
If the team does well this year, great - all is forgiven. If not.. then the sins are worse than they otherwise would have been.
Sliding scale of 'rules' at I4.
Unfortunately for them, TB comes overrated and incredible shooting from outside will be required for their lofty preseason aspirations to be achieved. Could happen, but overrated by most.
Emmitt Holt was dismissed today by Indiana. No word yet on Bryant. Front court, considered an area of strength, suddenly becomes super thin.

I4 said Holt was dismissed because of the prior incident where Devin Davis (also dismissed) "hit his car."... Odd.. chicos explained to me that Holt was not at fault at all. So why is I4 making it a talking point today?
I hope the young men heed this wake up call and make better decisions going forward.

Yes, the police report states MU players in the altercation. Sorry you don't like what the report says

I've pointed you to it now on at least 5 occasions. "NO FAULT FOUND" for the incident by Holt. I don't know how many different sources or links you need. NO FAULT FOUND by Holt. Davis was found at fault for jumping into the car. Holt was cited for underage drinking, but NO FAULT FOUND for Holt for the car.

Please identify the double standard when I'm simply correcting you on this matter.
No, chicos. Your source is media. Read the police report.
