I actually had to look up where Gresham is. Dude can shoot the ball.
Nice to have Hugh's kid on board. Should help improve the scenery 'round campus, ai na?
Fantastic. Welcome to the Warriors Christian.
Looks like he can ball a bit:

The Programs is headed in the right direction when you can pull this kind of talent as walk on. I expect to see more minutes from him than from most walk-on.
Welcome aboard Christian!
Now awaiting Washington.

Let's not go crazy here. Lighting it up as a D5 high school player in northern Wisconsin doesn't mean it translates to D1 basketball.

+1
I expect to see more minutes from him as I think this team is better than last year's team so I expect MU to be up by 20+ in the final two minutes of "buy games" and he'll get one minute on the floor (and maybe one shot attempt).

Can you recall a walk on with similar stats?? The parade hasn't started and I'm starting to feel raindrops.
A whole game instead of highlight reel, but it says he put up 47: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ck9yhB2rzoU

Did you see the competition the kid is playing against? He will be what he will be, a walk-on with some talent.
Was Christian recruited by any D-1 schools?

Just D3.
Nice sniff out by Wojo to find a kid that can walk-on and practice without holding the others back, and either liked the idea of walking-on at a D1 school or already settled on MU for the academic fit and was offered the spot this early.

.490 from three- woah- at 6 1 maybe he can at least come in for a few mins and hit some bombs- here's hoping we get something out of him later in his career
I do not expect walk-ons to see playing time. If they do, something has gone horribly wrong OR they far exceed expectations OR they are playing for Tom Izzo.

Let's hope not. Our last walk on we got something out of was Jake Thomas and I don't think I'm alone in saying I would've preferred us to not have him on the floor that much.

Looks like all bases covered.
1) Walk-ons no playing time expected.
But if:
2) Something gone horribly wrong
3) Far exceeded expectations
4) Playing for Tom Izzo

Agreed. Every once in a blue moon you'll find that magical walk-on that blossoms into Alex Barlow. There are probably at most 1-2 of those players in the country at any given time that can go from walk-on to reliable high-major starter.
Most likely, this guy (and Marotta, and the Maches, and any others) will be more Frozena than Barlow. If you strike gold, great, embrace it once it happens, but otherwise no walk-on should be counted on for anything more than a practice body that takes some garbage time minutes.
They're walk-ons not McD AA's. Might get off the pines vs. Pine Bluff, hey?
If we're going to walk-ons, lets get one with height. Does not play in a tough league. We can do better than this.
Why can't we get a player, from the afore mentioned list-- of Brendan Bailey, Coffey, Delaurier, Lamar Stevens,
Huerter, Tyler Cook or Emmanuel Malou (JC Player)? I bet you Bucky is laughing his head off. Thinking of TJ Schlundt,
6-5, excellent shot, potential to be a good player.

You go get one with height, Earl. We'll be here waiting.
I'm guessing - but, admittedly, I don't know for certain - that players that are being recruited highly (since they are top 100 players, for the most part) are not going to agree to come to Marquette as walk-ons.
P.S. Regarding TJ Schlundt, he was recruited to be a "preferred" walk-on. These guys come in knowing that although the school wasn't willing to offer a scholarship at the start, they'll have an opportunity to earn one, if they prove themselves once on campus. "Big" walk-ons are pretty much unheard of because the combination of height and athleticism is so rare that they are pretty much guaranteed a scholarship, somewhere.

I think you're seriously overestimating the level of "recruiting" that goes on for walk-ons. Nearly every walk-on is there for school first (on his dime) and hoops second, so it isn't exactly like coaches have the leverage they do with scholarships. You start with kids who are there, and take the best you can find.

you're right - I really hope he's not some 1 in a 1000 walk on that sticks around the team for 4 years busting his hump and earns some PT later in his career by exhibiting a knack to hit threes when our team needs a boost because......well, because he's not some 4-5 star recruit. That would really suck.
Man, folk's pessimism and general proclivity to think everything is mutually exclusive is astonishing. And we're not talking about Jake Thomas - we're talking about Christian Haffner.

I hope you are not trying to describe Jake Thomas here because can be described, at best, as exceedingly charitable. He wasn't here four years. He didn't exhibit much of a knack for hitting threes. He did work very hard though.

The pessimism is only as a counter to the overly optimistic opinions that others have used.
I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic. He is a 6'1 shooter from central Wisconsin with no D1 offers but some D3 sniffs. I am glad that he is willing to walk on at MU. I do not assume that he will ever make a huge game contribution.

Yes, yes! Wojo should put an advertisement in the Trib, in case there are a couple of bored tall kids on campus.
Walk-on Wanted
Dedicate same amount of time and energy as the rest of the team, but pay your own way and never play.
6'6"+ with athleticism and conditioning a must. Cannot be a member of other athletic teams.
A smart 6'1" kid who has basketball skills and can be a practice body without getting in the way is a good deal for a walk-on.

I hope he's a 1-1000 walk on who spends four years busting his hump. What I don't want is the talent on our team to be reduced again to needing a player who at best is a mid major talent to be needed to come in and save us. If we're down twenty and this kid comes in and nails 4 or 5 threes then fantastic. I don't want us being reduced to needing a walk on ever again.

I think this would be my description of the max (or close to it) of what might be expected of a
very high level walk-on, besides the practice contributions.
