If he wants to play in an empty gym go to USC.

Empty gym in So Cal vs. full gym in Ames? Hmm...

I agree, USC in general is an appealing school. But not if you are a basketball player looking to play in an elite environment where the fans actually care. ISU is not a very sexy school, but their basketball program is way more appealing and Hilton is a very dynamic place to play.

Hmmmmmm. Better academics...better weather....better road trips....and much, much better "scenery."

I'll take USC, thank you.

I'd wait a couple of months....who knows if Hoiberg is headed to the Association or not.

This is getting absolutely ridiculous.  Does the guy do any independent recruiting?

I know Illinois and Xavier were interested in him at one point in time but I'm not sure if that's still the case.

Supposedly, Cal had some interest as well. (The school, not the coach)

Someone here knows a lot more than I do, but I think this has more to do with who Hoiberg just hired.

No recruiting class will hold a coach that wants to go. Crean left the best team he ever had at Marquette to go to IU. If the opportunity is the one you want, you take it, because you never know if it will present itself again.

Thibs is rumored to be on his way out of Chicago. Sounds like the players have tuned him out (I get it...a little of Thibs goes a long way). Freddy would be next in line.

Completely different situation though.

This is home for Hoiberg and he's basically got the NBA whenever he wants it. Staying 1 more year with a loaded roster won't hurt his chances.

I definitely think he leaves, just saying I think he may stay 1 more year.

Yup, Monty out in NOLA, Thibs to the Pelicans and Hoiberg to Chicago. Almost a #donedeal.

ISU just re-hired TJ Otzelberger last week.  He would be the head coach in waiting.

I don't think he just wants "the NBA."  I think he wants the Bulls.  Hoiberg used to play there, knows John Paxson and Gar Forman, and has relationships with a number of members of the coaching staff.

Plus they are a promising team.  He isn't going to leave Iowa State to coach in an outpost like Sacramento.

True that the Bulls are the major draw and if Thibs leaves it's definitely a heavy chance Fred jumps at that big opportunity of the bat.

Just saying there is a lot that still needs to happen and he knows he has a NBA gig that he wants basically whenever.

The main risk of waiting another year is the fact that next year it may be all garbage jobs like the Kings.

See I think Chitown Juan is right.  This isn't 100% done, but I am pretty sure that's why Ozelberger went back to Iowa State.  He knows that Hoiberg is leaving, which has been rumored about for months, and he is the coach in waiting.  I'm sure that Jamie Pollard (ISU AD) isn't only on board with this, but likely orchestrated it.

Ozelberger was the lead recruiter on Matt Thomas, so he may be the guy with Wisconsin recruiting connections.

(Seems like we're no longer talking about Nick in this thread, so here goes.) Would the Bulls take Hoiberg over Billy Donovan, who seems to be getting talked about as being interested in jumping to the NBA? I'm genuinely curious to hear from folks who might have a much better idea than I.

Yes.

Hoiberg is that young, fresh face who has already worked in a NBA front office and played not too long ago.

He's about as hot a commodity there is for the leage

Reunion with Joakim. Interesting.

I think Thibs stays though.

What if (and it's a big IF) the Bulls win the title? Surely you can't let Thibs go then, and The Mayor is left waiting.

With a healthy Rose, this is crazy talk?

Now, he might not be healthy. $hit, he might NEVER be healthy again.

But if he is, he also will be rested and ready. Weren't the Bulls the conference favorites before the season assuming the very lineup they will present if Rose is healthy?

Rose isn't healthy and even if he was, I doubt they beat the Cavs.  And no team from the east is beating whomever gets out of the west.

It's sad for me to say but it's more likely that Rose aggravates his injury and is forced back into street clothes than the Bulls make a championship run.  He has damaged petals alright.  ::)

Everyone can blast me for this, and you can tell me how wrong I am (and I probably am, as most here know more than I), but I wouldn't want Rose on my team as the featured player.

He is very quick on offense and can blow by defenders.  But, to me he is like Carmello, a guy who will never take his team too far.  Not only because of injuries, but because he shoots a lot to get his points and doesn't know how to fully integrate into the team concept when his shot is off.  Not a leader except to make sure he shoots it a lot no matter what.  That is my impression of him.

Good assessment of the post injury Rose. Now he's a below average shooter jacking too many shots. Prior to his injuries, though, he was unstoppable going to the basket and a totally different (better) player.

If you could take away the injuries and turn back time, maybe Rose could have been a brilliant player. But at this point, he feels more like an anchor latched to the heels of the Bulls than anything. I've said for the past couple years that until they shed that contract, the Bulls won't really be able to compete for a title. Build around Jimmy, Noah, and Mirotic, and find a PG that will accentuate their skills rather than his own.

Sad as it may be, Rose is past his prime at 26. For a season and a half, he was the man. Unfortunately for him, it really looks like that was it.

He averaged 8 assists a game during his MVP year and the year after.  Still was a scoring guard, but had the awareness and vision to know that his ability to get to the lane at will would collapse everything and present opportunities.  He can't do the same thing as a shooter, which he isn't anyways.
