Title: So, do we storm the court when we win Saturday?

Only time I'd ever think it was ok is beating 1-5 sadly Nova comes in just shy.

it would be a lame court rush when only 9 students attend the games...

So, it wouldn't take long and no one would notice.    Besides, it would be one fan per player.

Of course you do. Having a terrible season and Marquette will be double digit dogs at home.

What's the pulse on the fanbase coming into this game?  Is National MU day still big enough to generate the insane crowds it did a few years ago when we were relevant?

I'm heading in to town Friday night and just want to get a feel for what people think the crowds around town are going to be like.

Back in 2012 National MU Day was a crap show.  Couldn't get a seat at any of the places right around the BC.  Should I be expecting a ghost town Saturday?

I'd like to see BC staff shoot t-shirts at the students from point blank range for crowd control.

No storming for a team we should be on par with.

I've never seen a storming of the court in this Millennium (maybe I'm missing one from pre-Big East days). I'm pretty sure MU makes it hard for the students to really get on the court. I'd doubt it regardless.

Interesting I've never thought about whether or not a victory warranted a court storming based on the quality of programs involved.

Simeone else said there were 5,000 still available on stubhub etc.  I didn't check so don't know. Still, should be a decent crowd I would think.

Maybe that person was being dramatic -- there are 355 seats on Stubhub.

I have two extra right now if anyone needs tickets.

I thought the flag was the second year. But the court was stormed in back to back years after beating Cincinnati. 2002 to celebrate our rebirth of being a decent program and for most purposes assuring our first tournament in 5 years. 2003 to celebrate the Conference USA championship.

No doubt. That game gets overlooked, but to me, it was a turning point of sorts. MU was having a nice year, but exploded after that win.

I'd love to get my hands on a copy of that game.

I remember my dad saying after that game, "It feels like we're finally back." He was right.

I'd like to take your second point a little bit further and say that it would be nice if someone was able to set up an old MU game/highlight repository online...especially for consolation during a season like the one we're having. There's just not a whole lot for MU on YouTube, compared to a lot of other schools.

There was a stretch when we first joined the Big East when some people were at least torrenting games. I had a few, like the 2006 home games vs. UConn, ND, Georgetown, and Pitt. That laptop is long dead, though, so I'm of no help.

Less than 500 tickets left and thankfully the weather will be pretty nice considering what this week is like. I think it will be the best crowd of the season, at least so far. I wouldn't begrudge a court storm. When you're as mediocre as we are this year, you celebrate what you can.

Rushing the court should only be for big moments... and beating a team we play at least twice a year, in a February game, doesn't feel very big - despite their ranking and the season we're having. Would it be exciting to win? Of course. Would I be mad if a rushing of the court happens? No. I just think it's more of a David vs. Goliath reaction. And with our pedigree and budget, we're not exactly a textbook David.

That said, go nuts if we win. Have fun.

Storm it baby. Last time I can remember was 2004 against 'ville. We were unranked and they might have been too, but it was just a release after a frustrating season...not unlike this one.

Never understood why people treat storming the court like it's some sacred rite; it's college kids being excited. If it's a close game and an exciting finish, I bet they do it. And they should.

We've done that once. 38 years ago. I don't think we've earned the right to hold up our noses up like some Dookie. You might also remember that the team that won it was known for some behavior that made the other blue bloods uncomfortable.

While I personally don't agree this is a perfect storm the court scenario, I say go wild. It's been a long season. Students haven't had much to cheer about. Knocking off the number 6 team when your team is under .500? Might as well.

Is this what our program has come to?

Yikes!

Two years ago, we were in the Elite 8. We had a strong incoming recruiting class. The trend line was up and the Hillbilly was viewed as a miracle worker.

It can happen again. If we want it. If the university wants it and if the level of investment Marquette makes in basketball continues, we will be on Wisconsin Avenue again. In the meantime, lets act like champions even if we're not quite there yet!

Yes, I know it has been 38 years ago. The lack of hair on my head and the additional insulation around my mid-section are clear reminders that it has been a long time coming. But I also do not give up hope (and, NO, I AM NOT A CUB FAN! IN FACT, I DESPISE THE CUBS!). We're doing too much "right" not to feel like we again have a shot at something really special.

Finally, as far as the behavior goes, it was the 1970s. Sure our guys did some things that by today's standards might be judged differently. Well, we all did!

Exactly. These students are suffering through a historically bad season. If the team pulls it off and they storm the court so what. That's the type of thing that can turn a casual fan into a diehard. It also gives the team a reminder that the students are still behind them. It has been a tough year on everybody and would be a nice release along with helping to feed into the anticipation for next year.

We all forget how few of us have been able to experience the rush of the Championship and dominate years. 2003 and 2013 are the closest we have come. Twice in 38 years, not a lot to get super excited about.

Should Holy Cross, San Francisco, LaSalle, and Loyolla never rush the court as well?

It's about how the program carries itself - is it classy or like a bunch of hacks?  This is a game against a team where, in many recent years, we were peers.  We should treat this game as such.  If you believe, as I do, that this is a rebuilding year and we are feeling the growing pains, we should treat a win as a building block for something better in the future.  Enjoy the win.  Go grab some beers.  Call it a day.

If, however, you think this is as good as it's going to get - then by all means, treat it as if we won something special and storm away.

I choose to think otherwise.

Just my opinion from my location here in Wisconsin, U.S.A, Planet Earth.

You know what? We are Marquette... and we just so happen to do things a little differently. I say we storm the court after every home victory. Make it our thing. Make every team afraid to play here because they know Wojo's Warriors are going to pour over that line and celebrate the visitors' demise. Top 5 or +200 RPI, win every day and cherish it like there's no tomorrow.

This program is going to be so much fun when I become head coach.

You seem to be stuck in 2009. Back then Villanova was not even a peer, they were a gimmie at home, and a decent away. Now their heads over heels better then Marquette. If Marquette were to win, not only would this be the 1st ranked win for 70% of the team, it would be their biggest accomplishment of their careers so far. So lets let them feel like champions. Their 11-14, no shot at making even the NIT, with a new coach, a win tomorrow is big for them, and big for the program.

Act like you've won before.  Do not act like beating a good team is a shock that deserves a special reaction.  Someone posted earlier that we don't storm courts, we storm avenues after we win it all.

My sentiments exactly.

Wonder who that wise man was who talked about storming Avenues? He speaks the truth! LOL   ;D

If MU pulls this one out.....playing 7....on national Marquette day.... just rush the damn court.

Well, that solved this issue for a year!

Pretty sure the Sweet 16 destruction of a heavily favored Miami would still have been a much bigger win then this game against Nova for Juan, Derrick and Steve.
