Here we go.....
GO WARRIORS!!!!
Looks empty (not Carlino's newly shaven head) but the Bradley Center
Ben Howland on the pregame. Guess he got a job with FS1, did his homework too.
Have they explained why they are 20 minutes behind? 8pm is brutal enough.
.. This may be the least attended game in a decade. The place is empty.
I take you are at home too.
Geez, we are losing to these guys
Lol we are bad
We scored. Woooohooo
The game started late because of the weather, to give more time for the 12 fans to get there apparently.
Horrible. They got run out of the gym by Nebraska-Omaha and are struggling against NJIT....at home
Let that sink in for a moment.
Lets go Wojo and boys! I wanna see some floor slapping out there tonight!
This team is awful.

Actually totally fine with three first few minutes. If the game is played at this pace we'll be fine.
Fortunately I didn't see the UNO game. But I'm alarmed at how no one on MU boxes out. They just watch the shots go to the rim. And I thought Carlino would be a poor man'a Aaron Craft; hard nosed, play tight D and hit a high percent gave of shots. He's not very good.
At this point, is it Carlino? You don't lose to UNO cause one guy sucks. May be systemic.
WTF, shut off the baseline.

It doesn't take long to see the problems.
Can't believe MU has fallen this far, this fast. Shocking.
We're winning!!
Well it is game 3. Lets see if Wojo can coach.
He may not have realized how hard you have to coach, non- McD's players.
I really like Cohen
Sadly the lead didn't last.
Piling up the fouls
Let me rephrase that - this team is f'ing awful
This is not going to be a short, pain-free season.
Now we see why Mike Rice was chucking basketballs at players.
Need to take the ball inside and draw fouls. Not hitting shots again. And defense suspect. Blowing by our guards, no help again. Whew. Settle down and pla hard guys. Let's Ho Marquette!
Juan can't even make free throws
Juan is back in with 2 fouls. Is this desperation time already?
I really want my lowered expectations to not become low expectations, there are flashes of something good, then nothing to follow that up, Let's go Marquette...!!!
Yes! Charge 1. At least 4 today!
This is painful. For my sanity, I may need to stop watching this mess.
I foresee much drinking this winter...
I think we should pull this one out.
It's sad I even have to be hesitant.

it's gotten to the point where I just laugh and have fun with it. Embrace the fact that we wont win 10 games this year and you'll be fine
You guys should find another team. Jump on a bandwagon. Might I suggest Kentucky?
These guys think they can beat us....
We might as well give Travis Diener the job and let him coach and get experience, if we're gonna be this poorly coached.
Steve is really bad
Say what you want about the Vadgers...and I do...but this would never, ever happen in Madison. They just keep sailing along. Balanced classes...minimum drama...always ranked...year after year after year. None of these extreme ups and downs like MU.
How depressing. I'm now praising UW.
Marquette
Hump
MU needs to get over this
That's a new definition of beating yourself.
Taylor finally with a basket!

How the hell could Wojo be so stupid to not balance his classes? Ridiculous...
Jajuan looks lost. Overpursuing on defense, ill-advised shots on offense. So much talent and doesn't know what to do with it.
Have we ever been this bad??

Are you on drugs? They only became a consistent team with Bo. We lost a coach. That is what can happen. We had one of the longest active tourney streaks snapped lol
This is ugly.
This team is shaken. No confidence now. Even the 5th year guy looks shaken.
Carlino needs to stay aggressive. People can rip on him, but he's the best player Marquette has.
Chatroom (http://www.muscoop.com/chat/flashchat.php)
Let me rephrase - this team if F'ing brutally awful bad.
Juan should not be posing.
Free John Dawson.....
Anyone miss Davante?
On another note, is Todd Smith still working with the team? Our guys don't seem as strong as in seasons past. Duane and JJJ should have more to them by now being 1.5 years into program. Burton doesn't seem to be in as good of shape either.
This point in history needs to be documented.
Dare I say that looked like good defense?
Wow, Carlino ... are we kidding chucker.
Quote from: Nevada233 on November 24, 2014, 08:49:55 PM

If we have Juan and/or Steve foul out (or any combination of two players), does Dawson get put in, or does Wojo go Gene Hackman and play with 4 kids?

give it up. If he can't sniff the floor on this team, it's speaks volumes.
I was a freshman when Dukiet was our coach. Looks eerily familiar. NJIT looks like the big time program and were playing for 1/2 the gate. Zoiks.
Tell me, I will wake up and the nightmare will be over.

He sure must have taken a HUGE step back this off-season. With the way this team is looking right now (radically worse than last season's team which surprises me) hard to think he could get time last year but not this year.
It's beyond bizarre.
But we're Marquette. Our coaches can't fail. We make the coach, not the other way around.
::) At least I won't have to hear that genius philosophy again till we get our program stable again.
This team tonight will not win another game this year. Maybe with Fischer they win 5. Truelu awful. Wojo over his head? It's easy to coach at duke. T
This is quite the funk
Let's just hope HE isn't watching this sh;t.
Its one of two things:
This is not a good team
OR
Wojo sucks as a coach.
Pick one
Taylor has two points in the last game and a half. Two. He can't make anything within four feet.
Did Carlino really play for BYU?? He looks like a rec league guy, too fast and out of control.
17 total points in 16 minutes against this team?
Clearly, the lack of play of JJJ, STjr, and Deonte is what held back last year's team.
Where is Burton? Dawson, why not put him in a few minutes? Is someone doing something out there?
What was Wojo thinking when he recruited all of these guys? It's also amazing that he thought this team was so good he didn't even have to use all of our scholarships to fill out the roster. Unreal.

Waaaay too early to say that about Wojo. I'm stunned by the lack of passion and leadership. Our coaching staff would beat our starting 5 in a game up to 20.
MAKE YOUR FRIGGIN LAY UPS!
We still got Crean's bash bags around?
Don't see a lot of adjustments being made. But no player can hit a shot. Wojo cannot shoot in the game I think. Lol
Jujuan Johnson is not good at basketball, Duane plays like he's never had a coach before. Steve Taylor has scatter brain moments all game long.
Just remember, they look rough but outside of Carlino Buzz recruited this garbage and left Wojo with it.
Johnson is just chucking shots off the backboard.
Burton shows so heart.

Tom Diener with Travis might be a better option right now.
Halftime thoughts
1. No confidence from anyone on this team at all.
2. I predicted 10-14 wins this year.
3. Too much isolation on offense. That 3 man weave up top was tired under Crean. It hasn't aged well.
4. Gutsy call putting Juan back in. May have saved the game.
5. More Deonte in the wide post, please.
6. This game is winnable. Would not be surprised to see MU find itself in the second half and win by 15.

The bottle said "Whiskey" and it is a gallon. All of that.
It's clear the group is pressing right now. They have zero confidence. On offense, ball movement is sticking, and we are forcing up way too many bad shots. No one looks ready to shoot (or want the ball for that matter). Defensively, there are just no excuses. Group has been burned by backdoor cuts all game. We are undersized, but that is no reason to not be blocking out.
Even if we assume that Wojo can not coach, which I do not believe is the case, where is our floor leadership?
Is it just me or is Fox's Alan Massengale a huge douche? Thank you

Just back from a lovely dinner with Mrs. Legs in time for the end of the first half. Enjoyed some Greenbush brewery Remnant of the Dragon--double red IPA - sublime. Life is good.

Yes. And while I did not expect it to start against Omaha and NJIT, anyone who thought this was going to be a great team was deluding themselves. I haven't given up and believe with every fiber of my being that this team will be better in 3 months. But better is a relative measure.
NJIT is actually somewhat talented. They're better than the New Hampshire team that almost beat us last year.

This board will melt after the next five games. Ga. Tech, MSU/Rider, Wis., ASU.....
They probably pull this out in second half and should.
MU has been brutal in last few games. Even with Fischer coming, I only hope their overall record at end of year beats the 5-21 mark in 1963 or 8-18 mark in 1964. Rooting for Wojo, but him and staff must be shell shocked with the performance so far.

Carlino is getting reined in because he was trying to will this team and put them on his back. But without rebounders, his misses just lead to quick kick outs and fast breaks, mostly uncontested.
This team is lacking a go-to scorer. Someone they know will bail out this team. Someone has to emerge.
Ironically, this would have been Todd's role on this team.

Has Dawson played at all today? He must be injured or have broken team rules or something to not get in a game like this.
Yeah, I don't understand this unless he did something wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he still loses eligibility when he transfers whether he plays or not, right? Why not put him in as a spark plug. If you don't trust him at all, why is he still suited up?
NJIT has one player who has played who is 6"7. The rest are 6"5 or shorter. How the hell are we tied in offensive rebounds and losing in total rebounds?

DON'T SHOOT DERRICK WILSON
Derrick seriously.
HANDS UP DERRICK!
DON'T SHOOT
One bright spot is our frosh and sophomores scored 29 of the 52 points so far. Hopefully, they develop with the talent coming in.
Honestly why does Derrick wilson stand behind the 3pt line ever?
not sure why, but utah crowd booing jimmy every time he touches the ball...must not follow scoop
Not a good shot by Derrick. Put Carlino back in? Because that will be better? Sad but true. Give me an option
We suck so bad we Need Derrick Wilson with his 0 zero points and likely 0 assists to play this much.
Derrick has no O

This is the reality of where we are at. And if Dawson can't get off the bench against UNO & NJIT, that's the reality of where he's at.
Dwill is terrible. Just terrible. Lead now only one since his return.
Crunch time and no Burton, who has hardly played again.
Du Wilson showing he is a player though.

John has a very bright future.... With or without MU... Believe that....
There has been some growth guys. Some VERY BASIC help fundamentals are showing up more. They only have 51...oh sh.t 53 points.
We finally get a D rebound.
Let's hope they don't figure out 12 is like 35% from the line.

CBS will pull the game at halftime.
Juan has really hurt the team with those turnovers. Just bad basketball.
Sub Derrick at this TO. We need to score
Wojo may have to actually adjust from his high pressure Duke McD's AA defense.
Can he do it and coach it? He may only know one way. But I've seen growth. Good job Wojo, so far.
Can he learn? Will ultimately define Wojo, not this pretty damn poor beginning.
At the rate this team is learning basics the future is what it is.

But he was good enough to lead us to a victory on the road at GTown? Score 6 against Providence, and a handful of other Big East teams. 2nd best D-Rating on the team last year. Shoots 78% from FT line. Showed a little midrange game?
Then again given the astute basketball wisdom you showed last year highlighted in my signature - I shouldn't expect much better.

It is inexcusable to have De Wilson on the floor in a close game late.
Why the hell is Derrick in during chase and foul time?
Get Dwill out. They will hack him. AND Wojo does with Carlino.
FS1:
1) Can't remember Wojo's first name
2) Makes up for it by showing a replay of him on the sideline. During gameplay. In the last minute.
Not making me feel great about our media deal, guys.

He isn't transferring as of yet, but after this 3 game benching - I have no doubt he'll be considering options.
My guess is that this is Wojo trying to "encourage" a transfer. Gut tells me Wojo wants/feels he needs to get a burner type at PG and Noskwiak isn't that kid either (probably a very similar player to Dawson - good shooter, good feel for the game, but not a burner.) So, Wojo probably trying to "free" a scholarship slot so he can recruit a prototypical PG as he prefers Duane off the ball too.
Duane showed a lot tonight
My hope is that at some point something will click with this team. There is something good there, but shots are not falling, the guards are getting to basket, the defense is suspect, but it has to get better, IMHO, it will
DODGED A BULLET.
I'm just gonna leave it at that.
(Other than the fact that Steve Taylor needs to start battling harder in the paint for this team)
Wojo may not be learning fast enough.
Needs to be more adaptive than at Duke.

Okay. Sorry another poster found that flat footed rebound to be funny too. And of course it was the worst person who could have rebounded the ball at that time, because as you saw, he got fouled immediately and proceeded to miss both FTs to run his shooting percentage from the FT line to a whopping 17% for the year.
Trust me, I could point out A LOT more instances of Derrick's shortcomings. A LOT more.

Honestly, at this point I think any playing time for him is just a televised audition for another team. He doesn't have a role, the coaching staff must not have confidence in him or its just not a good fit for him here, he showed potential in the games he played last year so I won't say he can't play. he had his ups and downs like any other player but when we neede him and he played 30 minutes he showed up. Overall with the class coming in next year his best oppourtunity to play is probably with another team so even if they are up by 50 he won't see the floor. No fault of anyones, its Just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.... Best of of luck to him...

We are well aware of that fact but maybe if you took your eyes off off Derrick, you will realize why he is getting and will continue to get playing time. It is not because Wojo and him are similar players nor is it because Dawson is transferring.

Huh? So if I just ignored Derrick's performance/play I'd realize why he is getting and will continue getting playing time?
I do agree it is largely unsightly, however. Duane, Carlino and yes, Dawson should be getting all of his minutes at this point. He hasn't improved over last year..and he's not going to help this team win...nor is he part of the future.

It is called options and if you were as good at basketball as you believe you are, you would have already figure that out and realized the limitations of the team at hand. You also wouldn't be clinging to that hope that Dawson is going to overcome two coaches misplaced bias and take Marquette to the promised land.

So Pomeroy doesn't assign O-Ratings to players with limited minutes, and you make sure to tell us how irrelevant Dawson's O-Rating from last year was because of that fact. Yet you can tout his D-Rating in the same small sample size?
I don't care who plays, I want the players who give MU the best chance to win on the court the most. Clearly, based on all the available evidence from the last season and this season, the two coaching staffs do not believe Dawson is one of those players. He may be in the future, and I hope he is and I hope it's at MU.

Early reviews on Carlino are a little spotty. This team has some rough waters in front of it. I'd say the two biggest bright spots have been Duane and Sandy (although not last night...freshmen!)
