Title: JJJ...
Post by: LastWarrior on April 01, 2014, 02:56:33 PM
Just saw this on Twitter via PT (aka FloorSlaps)...

Jajuan Johnson will talk with his mom this week and coach Wojo before making a decision. Duane Wilson, OTOH, says he's here to stay.

Let the recruting begin. As others have said, how he does with current and incoming players will go a long ways towards what type of early impression he makes.

My gut feeling,  which is worth nothing, says he stays.

I don't like the sound of that, but who knows, maybe Wojo can win him over

Just a guess, but I think we keep one of JJJ or Hill.  If one of them backs out, there's a ton of playing time for the other.

Maybe Wojo doesn't want him.  Remember, Buzz didn't want some guys.  Depends what type of offense he runs, etc.  I suspect he wants him, I also suspect Wojo doesn't want them all

For all we know JJJ just wants to make sure hes not the same as Buzz. You can look at it both ways.

Just a guess, but I suspect JJJ would have been having the same conversation with his mother had Buzz stayed.

And then there's this:

@AndrewGruman: Marquette guard Jajuan Johnson says he's "most likely" staying at the school.

Rob Jackson runs my son's AAU team and Marcus Jackson coaches it. I was at their practice last night and there were only a few other parents in the gym, plus Duane Wilson and Deonte Burton getting ready to workout after. Both told me that they are here to stay and that they thought JJJ was as well but he would have to see about the new coach.

This, since his pt was non existent.  I believe Hill will stay committed also and he is the real deal.

What I have been hearing (source is NOT scoop) is that JJJ was transferring at the end of the season. It was part of the reason he get benched towards the end of the season.

I have been told that with Buzz gone, we actually have a very good chance to retain JJJ.

If Wojo's "turning offense to defense" philosophy from the presser holds true, JJJ will fit very nicely and likely see a large spike in playing time this year (from zero to xxx).

So far over the years I really havn't truly been disappointed at a transfer(obviously Id prefer they didn't happen but none were anything to fret over).

I like everyone believe losing Hill would be terrible

But at the same time I still really think JJJ would be a big loss too. I think he just needs some damn PT.

This is the biggest reason why I thought Buzz was a fool. We were losing with Jake and Derrick regardless. Why not give the younger guys minutes...1. develop them 2. keep them happy O and 3. they are simply better.

Good riddance.

So the whispers about JJJ's grades were inaccurate?  If the rumors were false Buzz deserved even more criticism for not playing him.  Hopefully WOJ can convince JJJ to stay his upside his tremendous.

It's easier to stay when you have one year under your belt and you start/build relationships with teammates. For the incoming class, your decision has to be largely based on the coach that recruited you, though I suppose you can connect with some guys on the team during your visit, and hell, the facilities and string of MU success are not too shabby either.

Hi Willie!

I didn't say it was a bad thing that Buzz ran things that way. The coach is the boss. If you want playing time, you follow the boss' orders. That's the way Buzz saw things.

I don't agree with that style. But it is Buzz's style. He can't go back on it...he'd lose all credibility with his players

I am not sure what doubling down means, but if it means he went all in on Derrick and Jake, then that was proven to be a losing strategy . He almost ran the program into the ditch with it and the senseless benching of Steven Taylor JR and JJJ. Hopefully we get JJJ to stay

You call it vitriol, I call it calling out a phony. Look at how it affected the season, some of the kids and the program. It is inexcusable what he did, and you shrug it off. That's fine for you. But to say it is vitriol is ridiculous. Grow up and look at what happened.

I didn't follow the whole thread, but this quote made me chuckle.  It is essentially the opposite of what I witness in the world.  Children are resilient and remarkably adjustable.  So called "grown ups" are experts at holding grudges.

I didn't take it that way.  I'm thinking he had a very disappointing experience this past year and was considering heading for the door if Curly was still coach, so the talk was likely to happen anyway.

With a new coach, it's still a talk he needs to have but, in my opinion, if he likes the new coach he might be more likely to stay at MU.  And he's got plenty of time to gets things squared away for summer school - it's only April - if he decides to stay.

He said he had to make sure his grades were in order.  That can only mean he's having difficulty with classes and that there must be some issue with his gpa.  For example, last semester he may have gotten below a 2.0.  If he gets below that, this semester, he's violated academic probation and could be ineligible to play.

What else would "make sure grades are in order" mean?

Yet he did play this semester so he wasnt ineligible. He could be having a hard time but that doesnt mean hes ineligible. They have tutors for days in the AL. He will be in good hands for the rest of the semester.

I'm not saying he's ineligible right now.  In order to be ineligible, you have to have 2 consecutive semesters of below 2.0 gpa (usually...depends on the school but this quite typical).  What I'm saying is that last semester, he could have gotten below a 2.0.  If he gets below a 2.0 again (this semester).... then he's in trouble.  It might be a credit issue as well.  Sometimes athletes only take 12 credits a semester during the school year to lessen the workload during athletics.  15 is a normal load, so they usually make up the 6 credits during summer.  There comes a point, where if you don't have enough credits to be a sophomore, and you're in your 2nd year at the school, you can be put on probation as well if you are involved in athletics.

I used to have roommates that played collegiate football and wrestling so I got to see first hand how academics were juggled.  Typically, if there are issues with grades, then it is GPA.  Total # of credits related to class standing is much less common of an infraction.

Nonetheless, this was a different school than MU, so the rules might change a bit there, but they're usually within the same ballpark.

What remaks to Melissa? You mean being the first guy to call out stonecold for his calling her the C-word?  You're right I must be terrible! Don't try to lump me in with that awful person for your own twisted sense of righteousness

And I will back up my old RA any day for his beliefs in this Buzz Williams matter.  You on the other hand won't let it go and accept that others have a belief different than yours.

I think JJJ has a big upside, I hope Wojo can keep him.

I do too. It is simply mind boggling how Bert managed the team last year. That guy needs help.

Hopefully that is in regards to MU.

So how does grades = he is gone.  If he were to become ineligible when he transfers then he would have to sit and have to get his grades up.  he can also not use any exception to play right away.

You are using the phrase, "managed the team' liberally in Brent/Bert/Britt/Buzzard's case last year.

I'd take it that way. Unless he is playing poker and live blogging the game via Twitter.

Not yet.  I'm more or less like a mall cop.  I have a badge, but little power.  Nonetheless, I shall peek into every nook and cranny, exposing evil ---- wherever it may lie.
