Howland has to be priority #1

I don't know, one thing that concerned me about that SI article was that BH is apparently a ridiculous control freak - yelling at assistants and team managers for things like the temperature in the film room or how cold the water bottles are.  Maybe its not all true but if he turns out to be another arrogant eccentric type we could have another falling out in a couple years.

Well, it seem a somebody doesn't. Could be Lovell, Cords, BoT, who knows. Couple possible scenarios....1) they are in fact, not interested for whatever reason(s), or 2) there is mutual interest and he is content to allow the to get through all the dances, due diligence, make sure the world knows they looked at minority candidates, etc. if MU passes on him, he could likely go to WF tomorrow.

The more I think about it, the more I think I may be onto something with this LaVall Jordan thing. Not my pick necessarily, but might be my prediction.

Frozena works for Dick at Baraboo Captial ... It is actually Frozena that is running things threw Dick.  "Encouraging" Buzz to leave (Rob wanted him gone) and Frozena did not bless Howland.

Frozena actually runs MU basketball via Dick Strong.

I would have to think someone high up does not want him. What appears as obvious choice to many on here appears to be met by Resistance at MU. Have to say I thought he was logical pick it no Shaka.

MU has always gone with the up and coming younger guy.  They obviously have someone or multiple people ranked above Howland on their list.  Most likely, this person is still in the tournament.  Next week will be interesting after we have 12 teams ousted from the tourney.  Perhaps the rumor mill will pick up again, come Monday.  If not, then we can assume the target is in the final four.

So, just to get things straight, there are "higher-ups" that do not like Ben Howland (who has consistently proven to be a winner and led teams to several Final Fours), and actually prefer a Brian Wardle or Cuonzo Martin (who has yet to prove to be a consistent winner/recruiter at higher levels)?

Excuse me while I go bang my face against the wall.   ::)

Many odd stories. Legendary tales of him stopping meetings, calling in janitor to fix the tiny screws on the electrical covers so they all lined up the same way. Or the one where he interviewed an incoming manager and only talked about the guys shoes for the entire interview.

Actually, it's not.

If you take a moment and step outside the batcrap insanity of Scoop, this coaching search gets no play in the public consciousness. I talked to a basketball coach last night here in Jersey and he didn't know Shaka was a possibility. People outside the fanbase rarely pay attention until a name is announced on the bottom line of a certain four letter network.

I'll tell you one circus of epic proportions people know about.......South Florida. The Bulls spent 11 days vetting and interviewing candidates only having to terminate the guy they settled on since he lied about a college degree. That's a clusterunnatural carnal knowledge.

yup...and not a guy who feels the need to play by the rules or cares about howland's personality...but there are no sources talking about what dick strong wants or doesn't want.  obviously something isn't perfect, but this "i have sources" crap is pathetic.  it's an easy guess that anyone who follows MU basketball can make...lots of people trying to act like their in the know, imho.

How does one make a billion dollars?  Answer, by zigging when everyone else zags.  By going left (or right) when the world goes right (or left).  By doing these differently and taking the risk and willing to be lonely as no one thinks it will work.

So yes they are eccentric by nature ("eccentric" because they made a billion dollars, "nuts" if they do not).  He will make more money during that interview talking about shoes than some will make in a lifetime.  So if that is how he works, and his bank account has nine zeros, how can you argue with it?

I think main things against Howland is ability to recruit and relate to kids, his age, UCLA mess he was part of and wanting too much money probably. No idea if Strong or anyone is anti Howland but think if they wanted him it would be done already.

I can confirm the screws on the switch plates as I was one of the people who would turn them off horizontal to see how long it would take to be discovered.  NEVER longer than one day.

But after Howland publicly expressing interest in MU, if we end up with one of guys mentioned, it's going to leave plenty of people thinking MU is still "just a stepping stone" program.  Howland could change that image in a heartbeat.

Strong: Your shoes are untied.
Buzz:  Shoelaces are what tie our lives together.  They are our foundation for finding success.  An untied shoelace causes a man to fall.
Strong:  That's nice, but they are really untied.
Buzz:  It is only when we trip and fall that our true character is revealed.
Strong:  So... you'll leave them untied then?

He's been banned from the industry for "market timing" trades.  Eliot Spitzer (aka client number 9) brought him down.

He lost most of his money and then started baraboo and made most of it back.

You could start the guy with zero today and he will be worth hundreds of millions in a few years.

He knows how to make money.  That he is good at.

That's not true.  He had an offer to sell Strong Capital for close to $1.0 billion from a firm in the UK.  This pre-dated the Spitzer stuff.  Post Spitzer, he had to sell and Wells Fargo was the buyer.  I have heard the number was around $600 million.

Crazy attention to detail is a part of genius. One of those double edged sword situations.

I've heard stories from former Strong Fund employees that all of the screws on door hinges were perfectly aligned and symmetrical.

Buzz:  Mr. Strong, you're a smarter man than I am.  I can tie my laces, but if you take the ST out of your name, then you know how I feel about this matter.

Strong:  *face gets redder*  Tie the damn laces!!!

Buzz:  I'm humbled by your passion Mr. Strong.  I feel as if you are the backbone of the Marquette community.

Buzz:  I'm a grinder.

that's awesome.

I think main things against Howland is ability to recruit and relate to kids, his age, UCLA mess he was part of and wanting too much money probably. No idea if Strong or anyone is anti Howland but think if they wanted him it would be done already.

Howland landed the top class in the nation less than two years ago.
But maybe kids have changed a lot in the past 20 months.

And none of you have the first clue what Dick Strong wants.

If Cuonzo is Marquette's (current) favorite, do we root for or against Tennessee?  Do we want him hired sooner or experience more success?

How does one make a billion dollars?  Answer, by zigging when everyone else zags.  By going left (or right) when the world goes right (or left).  By doing these differently and taking the risk and willing to be lonely as no one thinks it will work.

So yes they are eccentric by nature ("eccentric" because they made a billion dollars, "nuts" if they do not).  He will make more money during that interview talking about shoes than some will make in a lifetime.  So if that is how he works, and his bank account has nine zeros, how can you argue with it?

Well, the point of an interview is to get to know what the interviewee is all about. To find out what is between the lines. If you want to know his skill level, just look at the resume.

So Dick Strong told you that Dick Strong does not like Ben Howland and you are looking here for confirmation that this is true?

Does he talk in the third person like Bob Dole?

[p.s. I can't resist and hate myself for this but, for anyone in Kenosha, Bob Dole was a senator and ran for president. ; )  Just kidding KW and hope you know I am just joking.  I have much respect for you and what you do.  God bless you.

I think Martin would leave Tennessee in a second no matter what happens in the tournament.

48 hours ago, nobody mentioned Martin with the Marquette job.
Then Jason King sent out this tweet:
Not saying he's the No. 1 guy, but don't be surprised if Cuonzo Martin's name surfaces in the Marquette coaching search.

Now, based on nothing more but conjecture here, he's the the current favorite.
Scoop gets loopier by the hour.

That's not true.  He had an offer to sell Strong Capital for close to $1.0 billion from a firm in  UK.  This pre-dated the Spitzer stuff.  Post Spitzer, he had to sell and Wells Fargo was the buyer.  I have heard the number was around $600 million.
I have Strong Fund college 529s or whatever they are now.  Locally, Ameriprise was the only selling when my kids were born.  I know they morphed to Wells Fargo, then ING and now ING is changing names again.

Martin being a possible mystery candidate is quite a bit different from Martin being the current favorite.

For all I (we) know, MU loves Martin. But there's been nothing even hinted at to indicate that's the case.
