So in the last ten minutes we have Cunzo Martin and Bruce Weber rumors. Here comes the meltdown by this board.............
All we can hope is that this is the kind of done deal we have been getting used to.
Howland < < < < < Wainwright < a garbage can < < < Bruce Weber < Cuonzo Martin
Let's just roll out that Al hologram, find a few recorded sayings to play on loop, and call it our coach.
Now MU is lowering the bar, so we're excited when Mike Brey is announced.

How in the hell does MU manage to go from Smart and Howland to Bruce Weber??????
No lowering expectations so we are happy with Wardle.
If you click on the article (I would advise against it) they quote Chris Farley...
I find it hilarious that Wildcat fans are already saying goodbye, without any concrete evidence.
Weber should be doing cartoon voice overs!!

That isn't aiming high or impact hires. In fact the opposite. Those names will inspire no one, we will lose recruits, MU basketball will go in a tail spin, and I am an optimist on this board

A lot is riding on this hire. Nationally, MU's reputation as a basketball power is on the line. And personally, my support for the program is also on the line.
I swear....bring in a Plan D (or E) coach and I'm done. I'm two time zones away from Milwaukee...I'll find it pretty easy to escape all things MU. You know, the PAC-12 plays decent hoops and their football is quite entertaining.

I will always be a Marquette fan, but I hear you. I found myself tuning out much of this past season. There are more important things to be annoyed at other than mu basketball
K-State fans were spreading this rumor over the weekend. It's picked up no traction anywhere since.

That's what I talking about. As this crappy season dragged on, I found myself becoming more and more disengaged. At first, it was hard to kick my MU addiction, but after a while, it was pretty easy. Even found myself forgetting MU had a game that night until I saw the result the next day.
I certainly don't want to bail on my school and team. But they're really forcing my hand.
I hope that is plan G. I've posted this a few times, but with the volume of posts, I'm sure a lot haven't seen. I know people who know Shaka Smart. They all say that he is without question, one of the most introspective guys alive. He is anal beyond belief. He asks hundreds of questions and runs through scenario after scenario and thinks long-term, short-term and everything in between. Unlike Buzz, who played the "aw shucks" but still thought he was the smartest guy in the room, Smart is the smartest guy in the room. He could have gone to any Ivy and is known for his intellect. It isn't in his DNA to make a quick, rash decision no matter what is on the table. We have not heard a "no" -- that is a good sign. I have no inside knowledge of the negotiations, but it is definitely coming to a close.
My thought is that if it is Smart, we will hear of on twitter before the announcement. Nothing has been leaked by Smart and that is a good thing. But he seems like the type of guy who will talk to his players, then announce his plans (if he does intend to leave). He will tell his players not to say anything until he announces, but that never happens. On the flip side, if we don't hear anything for a while, that would lead me to believe that a guy that has no current players, like say Howland, will be announced in short order.
Those are the two guys I would like to see. The idea of Wardle just makes me cringe. And that some here think he would be a good choice baffles me. What about Brian Barone?

He can coach. Recruiting is the question mark, nothing that can't be solved by an ace recruiter or two on staff. I'm good with him. Could coach circles around C. Martin, Wardle, many of the names. And a much more likeable guy than Howland without the baggage from UCLA.

Poor Pete4KSU does not know about the source!!
K-State fans have sort of embraced Bruce even though he is an excruciatingly painful dork. I mean, he's OUR excruciatingly painful dork, ya know?
One adorable thing about Bruce is that he complains about officiating in a really passive aggressive way, and typically waits until after the game to do so. He is universally loved by the Refs....he never yells at them, and they never feel pressured to give him calls. They love him!
Also, his voice sounds like a screeching 5 year old child because of surgery he had on his vocal cords when he was young. It's not his fault his voice makes you want to die, he can't help it. It gets easier the more you listen to it. However, my wife still convulses if she hears it, so I have go out and listen to the Coaches Show on the radio in the car. She'll come around eventually.
This whole Weber to MU is a bunch of b.s. created by K-State fans on social media. There is no evidence whatsoever that MU has shown the slightest interest in him. This is a rumor to simply ignore.

QuoteOther candidates are believed to include former UCLA coach Ben Howland, Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins, Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall, Kansas State coach Bruce Weber, UW-Green Bay coach Brian Wardle and possibly Tulsa coach Danny Manning.
Quote"You have to be careful in this process. You have to be sensitive to the people involved in the process," said Cords, who was asked to remain for an additional year before Williams' departure. "Timing is important. You really have to do your due diligence to make sure this is absolutely the best person. We aren't just looking for a great coach, we are looking for someone with significant major conference head coaching experience and local ties. We don't believe Marquette is a stepping stone job."

The up and coming young coach method has it's downside as we have all seen.

I like Pete. His gifs are funny.
Pete, come to MU for grad school. Come cheer with us. Scoop could use more gif-miners.
I already have a graduate degree, bro. I'm not a Jesuit kinda guy, but I don't judge. Marquette IS my favorite Big East team, though. I love Milwaukee.

Pete - You've made me laugh quite a bit today. Kudos to your sir!!! I think we should keep this thread alive as long as possible, just to post Bruce Weber gifs and memes.
You guy, this isn't over.

QuoteMartin played at Purdue for Gene Keady and is part of Keady's coaching tree, which includes Purdue's Matt Painter, Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings, St. John's Steve Lavin and Kansas State's Bruce Weber.
Weber, a Milwaukee native and UWM graduate with Final Four experience at Illinois, also has been mentioned for the Marquette job.
