Or maybe nothing at all, but his top assistant and would-be successor is leaving VCU to take over at Rice.

BREAKING ---- VCU's Mike Rhoades has accepted the head coaching position at Rice, multiple sources told @CBSSports. Story coming.
Did Bazz know Rice was open?
VCU's top assistant just accepted head coaching job at Rice.
Not sure if it means anything... Or does it???
8-)
That was known to be in the works yesterday

That can only be contrued as good for MU.
Interesting. The VCU fans were confident that if Shaka Smart left that Rhoades would take over for him. So, maybe that's a sign that Smart is indeed staying at VCU.
Chew to VCU?
I don't care if we get Shaka but thank God those VCU fans lost something.
I think it means its less likely Shaka is coming here, because Rhodes would have been his replacement at VCU.

I stand corrected.

Not really. He might have been next in line at VCU if Smart was coming.

Think you are right...losing faith..that Shaka is going to come to MU, but not losing faith that we will still land a very good coach..
I take this one of two ways. Either he was not the heir in waiting VCU thought him to be so he left or that Shaka isnt going anywhere. This information does not answer anything.

Yes it does. The top assistant wouldn't leave if Smart was coming here. Be realistic, he'd wait to interview for VCU job, which is much better than Rice. He's not coming to Marquette, let it go.

Tell me how you are so certain that you know the thought process of the VCU athletic department.

Curious--do you know the terms of the Rice contract, do you know if VCU reached out to Rhoades indicating that he wasn't a shoe-in, etc.? I wouldn't be so quick to interpret this one way or another. But then again, it is the Internet. Carry on.
EDIT: I see this irony in this post based on my first in this thread.

Unless he was told he wasn't a candidate, like IC per BigDaddy.
Still just going to wait and see. Wherever this lands, it lands. Even if its just a Citation V.

Then why'd chew leave immediately?

Could be the exact same situation.
Here is a guy in Rhodes that you guys should have been interested in. Many connected to VCU know that he is a big part of Smarts success

Tell us why would we take an assistant from a mid-major? Much better options. Like your current head coach :P Ill say it again. I dont think MU lands Shaka but if by some miracle they do, you will be the first one I contact.

And he parlayed that into Rice! Score!
Rice does have a great campus though.

So Smart is job jumping while he can now that his mastermind is gone :)
As a Virginia Tech alum, I'm very excited about Buzz coming on board in Blacksburg. Contrary to what some may believe, he's not starting at a school that cares nothing about basketball. Seth Greenberg's measured success at Tech really energized the fan base. I'm confident Buzz can do even better.
As a resident of Richmond, Va., I hope Shaka moves on to MU! The VCU fans have really become insufferable and quite pompous. Good luck with the search!
Oh great. Now we are going to have a VCU VTech fight on our board.

I'm so tempted, but I won't touch it. Personally witnessing the 30-point beatdown VCU put on them in Richmond this year was enjoyable enough.
There's a slight chance we'll see Buzz again this year. Someone will have to come up with a creative sign for me.

Indeed. That may be our saving grace.
I think it's becoming clear that no one knew nothing ever.
Not a single person on these boards had any real inside info

Even BigDaddy?
I haven't seen him post anything on this coaching situation

You should check out his lengthy post. Very well written.
No VCU Insider/professional troll take on this?

Ok that was a nice post but it's still basically just stating what most are now hoping.
This whole thing went from "big time program changing signing on Wednesday" to "done deal yesterday" with everything in between. Expecting pressers and news conferences.
It's just crazy that all these people have info and literally nothing as went anywhere.
Id prefer to not be lead on.

Buzz is a scumbag. Don't get too excited. I'm not a Marquette fan either.

I do not think anyone on here said done deal yesterday. I think those who chose to post what they knew, me included, never said done deal. BigDaddy said what some on here wanted to yesterday but did not feel comfortable saying it.

There are more twists and turns in this story then a Agatha Christie novel.
