Title: Luke Fischer
Post by: BenCat12 on March 02, 2014, 10:25:14 PM
I recall when Wade was a prop 48 hearing multiple stories about how phenomenal he was in practice.  How he was the best player on the team as a freshmen.  Has anyone heard anything on Luke Fischer?  I realize the media coverage in Milwaukee sucks for MU, but a story from someone as to how he is doing would be appreciated.  Dodds, Ganzer, cracked sidewalks, anyone?  He is a huge part of the future and will most likely be heavily relied on next season, once he becomes eligible.  Would love to hear about the battles he has with Davante, Chris, Jamil, STjr, etc... His skill set, expectations etc....

I don't think we'll ever know because we have Mike Hunt as the beat writer.

Rosiak was wonderful in providing insights on such topics as yours.

and why stop at Fisher?  How is Duane Wilson doing in practice?  How about JJJ  What is he doing, or not doing in practice?  What is the state of STj's knee?  How much is it holding him back?

And why did we only find out about Jake's shoulder after the Georgetown game when Buzz told Homer?  Isn't this something you'd expect the beat writer to report on?

All of these would be answered if someone proper was covering this team.

I do not think you would want to tell the oppossing team that your player is injured. Besides that Buzz is not big on excuses. I do not think  we would have heard about it at all, if Thomas did not shoot so well.

Copy and paste for the next Homer questions for Buzz thread.  Though I doubt we'll hear much of substance.

When Fischer becomes eligible next season will he still be a freshman or will he be a sophomore already?

Sophomore

Doesn't he still have 3.5 years available?  He has to sit out a year, but I don't think he loses a year of eligibility.

2.5 years left. He'll begin play as a second semester sophomore.

No, he will be eligible to play starting in mid-Dec. next year, and then 2 additional years after that.

There are no 1/2 years of eligibility, so he burned one year at Indiana this year, and playing next year will burn a second year.

Don't understand why he loses so much time.  If he attended IU for one semester, after sitting out a year after the transfer at MU, shouldn't he be eligible to play 3 1/2 years?

Should yes, but it's been confirmed on this board several times. He only has 2.5 years of school. It makes very little sense to transfer mid year, but I'm happy he did.

As soon as a player checks into a game, they use up a year of eligibility.  Doesn't matter if it's only for 1 minute, or they play 30 games, it still counts as one season of eligibility.

Not true you'll notice chris Otule is still here and played 60min in 2008, and 25 in 2009.  The rules are something like a third of the season or a of the season for a redshirt I believe.  So actually it would've been better if Fisher got "injured" then came here.

This was his freshman year, because he played for IU.  Next year is his sophomore year, not a continuation of his freshman year.  He has to sit out two semesters (this semester, and the fall semester) per transfer rules, but it is not a redshirt.  In the highly unlikely event he were to sit out all of the 2014-15 season, he could redshirt and play three full seasons.

Technically a "medical hardship waiver" in his case rather than a redshirt.  But yes, getting hurt and being granted a waiver would actually have earned him a mulligan on this year.

There are a bunch or reasons for waivers, but none of them apply to Fischer.

I'm with "bilsu"--- Instead of some these subject on the board-- Someone start on What Johnson, Duane and
Fischer are doing. How is practice going or are they even practicing. JJJ got a whole 2 minutes yesterday.
What's going on with him. Memphis players are always good to near blue-chip prospects.

Hypothetically speaking, if Fischer redshirted/medical redshirt then would he have 3 years after that or how would that go ?

A good beat writer is sitting at the scorers table.  He is in the locker room before and after the game.  A good beat writer makes note of the hard fall Jake took.

So, a good beat writer can figure it out without Buzz spoon feeding it to him.

Am I asking too much?

Correct, if Fischer redshirted next season, he would have 3 full years remaining.

Beat writers, good or otherwise, are not allowed in the locker room before college basketball games.

That being said, it's difficult to be anything but disappointed with the way Hunt covers Marquette and, even more, the way the JS lets Hunt cover Marquette.

You hit on it. It is on the JS - they are the ones who do not consider MU to be any kind of priority. If they wanted the coverage, we would have it - whether it was Hunt or someone else.

Chicken or the egg discussion here, as one could easily argue that if coverage of MU made the JS more money, more web hits, etc., MU would warrant a better beat writer.

None of that changes the fact that Hunt is horrible. I often wonder why they let Rosiak fill that position for so long if they are okay with a guy like Hunt mailing it in.

Because when they moved Rosiak to the Brewers beat, they made the decision that MU basketball is no longer a priority.

So, a good beat writer Mike Hunt can figure it out can't avoid getting Spaghetti sauce on his sock tie without Buzz spoon feeding it to him.

Am I asking Does Mike Hunt weigh too much?
