Title: Next NBA Player From Marquette
Post by: NYeagle on February 23, 2014, 10:44:00 AM

From Slam Magazine

"Star Notice
Five non-McDonald's All-Americans who can make the NBA.

Ahmed Hill, Aquinas (GA)
PG, 6-5, 190

Committed to Marquette

Simply put, I think Hill is the most underrated player in the country. Great size for a point guard at 6-5. Tight handle and strong frame to penetrate and finish through contact, and an extremely high basketball IQ—Hill can run your team as a freshman. He's a playmaker, a hungry competitor, and a true leader.

Hill can play both guard positions, but if I were a coach, I'd give Hill the keys to the offense and let him operate. He handles the ball against pressure, surveys the floor with poise, and can finish at the rim. I've seen all the top point guards in the Class of 2014, and in my opinion, there's not a PG who Ahmed Hill can't compete with. He could put Marquette back on the map in a hurry."

PG hey? Hill can run YOUR team as a freshman maybe, but not OUR team.

Good stuff--thanks for posting.  Can't wait for Med to arrive.

This is already making me frustrated.

We got Todd and JJJ

then factor in Duane and Hill

but you know Derrick is going to play.

Someone is getting left out, because someone isn't sticking around.

I know everybody is excited to see him in a MU uniform but lets remember the last time a player got this much hype. Just taper you expectations a bit so we dont have the board blow up with transfer rumors again.

We all know who's starting at PG next year.

DG is NOT NBA. Kid struggles to run to defend the three and will get blown by.

Physically, Jamil is the most prototypical NBA player.

Ox needs to lower his BFP. He has amazing touch for a big man, though.

You may be right.  But a lineup of:

Derrick/Dawson
Mayo
JJJ
Burton
Taylor/Fischer

Would be very strong.  There is no guarantee that despite the hoopla that Hill or Duane Wilson are better than Derrick/Dawson or Mayo/JJJ.

JJJ's gonna have to add about 15 lbs and play some defense before he starts at MU. If he's not even playing at all now he's got a world of work to do.

I am sure Ahmed Hill will benefit from a year riding the pine watching our PG being defended sagged off by 10 feet and shooting less than 50% at the later throw line.   Too early to start Ahmed Hill transfer rumors?

Imagine the potential of this lineup in 2015-2016:

Duane Wilson
Ahmed Hill
Deonte Burton
Luke Fischer
Diamond Stone

From all I saw of Hill so far he does look like the real deal.  But I gotta agree with you HH32, we have a logjam of wing players and guards next year.  I really like Derrick Wilson but it's a bit worrying to think he may be playing just as much next year.  I really hope he comes off the bench next year as a defensive stopper if Duane lives up to the hype.

Great find. Hopefully the author is correct.

I have a good feeling about Hill. I still remember an interview with him where he said that he is coming to Maquette because Buzz is willing to build the offense around him. When I read it, I thought he was just talking. I didn't think Buzz would every promise a high school player something like that. But maybe this frosh is special.

We will see. I'm not convinced. But I hope that he is even better than advertised.

Since people were posting guesses as to what the starting lineups will be, I have:

Derrick
Mayo
Burton
Taylor
Fischer

Bench:
Johnson
Du Wilson
Anderson
Hill
Pierce

Everyone else is a benchwarmer

Do they adjust the ratings after every year? I know ESPN rankings are completely pointless (Just look at Davante) but just curious to see if he could make the jump to a 5 star.

Since Fischer isn't going to be around until December, here is what I think:

Agree on that lineup for day 1. At the start of BE play I would love to see...
Duane
Mayo
JJJ
Burton
Fischer
With Ahmed as super sub only if he is good as advertised
Next 4 in Derrick, Taylor, Juan, Satchel (I think Satchel might get second most PT of the frosh just due to need. If Mbao got playing time as a frosh, no reason to think pierce won't.)

Early in the year, STjr and Juan will be starting up front, possibly with Deonte.    Backcourt is a jambalaya.   I won't even try to predict how it shakes out.    But Pierce isn't going to start from day 1 and Buzz is not going to go with STjr and Deonte at the 4-5 spots.   Too small, nightmare defensively.       MU is just going to be small next year until Fischer is eligible.

And I actually think that will be Steve.  Remember Lazar guarded the five in Buzz's first year...

Yes.   I see STjr and Juan starting up front early next year.   STjr at the 5 and Juan at the 4.    Pierce will get spot minutes.   Assuming status quo, IMO Taylor, Anderson, Mayo and DeWilson can be penciled in to start early in the season.   When Fischer becomes eligible, that gives Buzz flexibility up front, the ability to, say, start Fischer and Burton with Mayo, and Hill.   Should be interesting to watch.  Not always enjoyable, but always interesting.

I think what this season has taught us is that no matter what experience= trust to Buzz and that means our seniors and junior will be starting.  I see Derrick, Todd, Juan, Burton, Taylor.  Till Fisher comes in and then Burton moves down to the 6th man and Taylor to 4 with Fisher at 5.  I actually don't think Pierce gets many minutes.

By the way why has nobody speculated about Harris in the lineup at all?  According to Hunt he still wants to come and we'll take him if we can haha

Buzz coaching philosophy is baffling. A starting lineup with Anderson and Wilson? Where will the points come from next year? Not the starting lineup thats for sure

You do realize that a Buzz starting line up is oftentimes meaningless.  It's the total minutes that count right?

Does coach k, roy williams, and bill self coach that way? No.  Buzz is like a high school coach by wanting to make is seniors or upperclassmen happy. That doesnt work in D1 athletics.

seeing as it's worked till this season I wouldn't cry about it. His way of coaching balances classes and is designed to keep us reliably good while developing others.  Unfortunately a departure and injuries threw that off.

Also you can't compare MU to programs that are consistently getting McDonald's AAs

Oh boy--now the starting lineup is meaningless. Not according to Buzz. The hardest workers in practice get the nod, according to Buzz--is that meaningless? Otule starts so we are ensured of getting the first possession--now IMO, that is meaningless, but not to others. Anderson starts because he deserves to--is that meaningless?

You can't have it both ways--that it is meaningless--or it isn't. Why do guys like Anderson and Otule start if it is meaningless? It must mean something to somebody!
