Me too. We don't need a mascot and then we also won't be disenfranchising an entire group of MU Grads by changing/taking away their nickname.
We Are Marquette!
It continues to boggle the mind that grown men care so much about a mascot. Most outgrow stuffed animals and cartoon characters in grade school.

Over time, Marquette won't have to deal with this issue anymore.

They would never change the name back for a million. IIRC, they were offered way more than that 10 years ago and still said no.
Honestly, any change is going to piss of some constituency of donors. They are better off with status quo if money is concerned.

I doubt it. I have family who graduated in '99, '02, '05, '10 and a current junior at the school, and hanging out with them and their MU friends I've asked them about the nickname and all of them dislike the Golden Eagle. Some would like to see the Warriors come back, some don't care, but none really likes the Golden Eagle.
I say bring back the Warriors, but keep the eagle as the mascot, that way we can further distance MU from the Indian imagery.
I agree, I don't see why anyone really cares anymore. MU has done a pretty good job of not displaying the Golden Eagle name or logo on most of it's merchandise and marketing efforts... really pushed it to the background for the most part. Really the only time you see it is through the media (and of course the mascot).
If we had gone to golden warriors they'd have a hard time saying it was racist or offensive.
But at Phonathon you guys would be surprised how many people say they won't donate again till the name gets changed back. I don't mind either way because the bottom line is "the name on the front of jersey is a hell of a lot more important..." (Miracle)

Right--it is all about "Youth shall be served". Nothing about the glory years of the warriors--and nothing done since that compares. Kind of like the modern day mantra "We don't need no stinking constitution". Forget about history, heritage, etc. And please do not come back with Warrior is discriminatory.

I kind of thought my login name would give an indication of where I stand on the issue. I would love for it to return to the Warriors, but don't think that will ever happen. I was just pointing out that the "over time they won't have to deal with this anymore" comment is only true if they stay with the status quo. If they make any sort of change, that will just keep the issue alive for another decade or two.

I agree, and it does have a tie in to the history of MU being the first Catholic institution of higher education to admit women into degree-granting programs. (I think I stated that accurately.) And we do have the Joan of Arc chapel at the center of the campus, and legend has it that she actually prayed in said chapel. And the undergrad student population of MU is 50+% women. And while we're at it, why not seriously consider a woman candidate for university president?

I've never heard that. Were they the Pioneers before they became the Cougars?
Ooops... my lunacy

I feel like there would be a lot of angry females on campus.
Envious, perhaps.

Or West Virginia?

Or Florida State? (Seminoles)
Or Southern California? (Trojans)
Or Western Illinois University? (Leathernecks)
Or, I don't know,
Notre Dame?
Simple change, they could become the paddy wagons. They could have an old time one circle the field after touchdowns, and it would be on hand to deal with the new inebriated fan threat!

Not to mention the entire country of France.
France: "We want our chapel back. We've suddenly realized that it is a prized cultural icon."
DiUlio wanted a legacy.
Changing Warriors after my freshman year was his legacy.
For better or for worse.

I guess they could say that after they return all of the cultural artifacts they took from Africa, Asia, and Oceana. I love the fact that obelisks lasted for thousands of years in Egypt and the Middle East but have decayed significantly since being installed outdoors in France.

You think? ;) The fems would be in convulsions.
We should be the Interims. It's a unique name, and fitting since pretty much everyone employed by the university has an Interim tag. And whatever character we put out as a mascot wouldn't have to last long, since it would be the Interim mascot.

+1
I've never liked the Golden part of the current nickname, why not just the Eagles since we have to be called something.
We were the Warriors when I was a student and that's the nickname I'll always identify with.

No. His legacy is damn near destroying the University. The name chane was one of many miscues by him,
For That DiUlio Sucks
