Smile, fellow MUers.
Though not as high hopes as the Hoosier base, our both our teams are 14-10 but we're 6-5 in conference play (they're 4-7).

I've never been a Crean basher, but his post-game comments (http://www.insidethehall.com/2014/02/12/video-tom-crean-reacts-loss-penn-state/) were ridiculous. Blaming the entire loss on a bunch of 18-23 year olds? That's a new low for him.

Idk. ID love to agree with you, but aside from his pud whack attitude, I don't really have an issue with anything he said there.

Gee, too bad for Crean if he gets the axe--which IMO that would not happen this year. And doesn't he have about 5 or 6 years on his contract left? If so, he will have plenty of walking around money to hang with the Harbaughs for a few years. And somebody else would snap him up immediately, to which he can respond: "It was Indiana, It was Indiana" Hell, ESPN would probably hire him for their Sunday football show--they need a couple more guys to make an even dozen, and he could offer fascinating analysis on the Harbaugh brothers.

They play in the Big Ten, we don't. Kind of hard to compare conference records. They beat Wisconsin, we didn't. Would we beat Michigan...doubtful. OSU beat us, be curious to see how they do against OSU. In fact, we're 0-2 against the Big Ten this year. IU is what IU is this year, a team that lost four 1000 point starters and they've struggled.
Go to the UW board 3 weeks ago, they wanted Bo Ryan fired. Go to the UNC board a month ago, they wanted Roy Williams fired. Go to the UCLA board 2 weeks ago, Alford should be fired. Etc, etc.
Did you know that Jim Burr has worked 16 Final Fours. On the heels of what happened with Mr. Smart the other day, not surprising.

What Jim Burr has done in the past has no relation to the current time. He is an awful referee. He is the worst ref I have ever seen since I came to Marquette in 2011, bar none. I have never seen a game where Burr has reffed and said "Well that was good officiating" He needs to retire. I dont care what he has done in the past but the current Jim Burr is awful.

Don't worry, the second he retires someone here will anoint the next worst ref in the world that is screwing MU (and only MU) out of wins. ;)
What I hate most about Jim Burr is his Blocking call. His old wobbly ass comes tumbling down the floor as he desperately tries to follow the play. He then does that dramatic "I need to hop on one foot while leaning on a 45 degree angle to stop" pose as he then violently slams his hands on his hips, as if almost telling us to "suck it." What an ass.

Classy. I enjoyed your other usernames in the past, to be perfectly honest. For someone with only 97 posts since December and so many dedicated to me personally, it's interesting. I missed you. Why did you take such a long break from the board? ::)
I also know how people here would react if we lost four 1,000 point scorers from the most recent team and struggled the next year. We would say, "we lost four 1,000 point scorers". I mean, hell, we were actually picked to win the Big East this year and that was AFTER Vander had already left...we already get excuses. Fans just seem to have one set of "standards" for their own team and a different one for other teams. Go figure.
I really did miss you.

chicos can make excuses for him all he wants.
Everyone can see he is a horrible coach. Mu fans had the same issues with him at MU, how many threads started on the fact that he needed to hire a older sage to help him with his lack of coaching ability. yet his arrogance would not allow it and he just turned over young assistnts one after another. i recall there were 2-3 years in a row where he lost his entire staff. And few of them for better gigs.
When a coach is not a very good coach yet holds himself as an arrogant prick he gets alot of nicknames...one of my favorites is "Tommy Naismith" from Bob Huggins.
What chicos is also glossy over and failing to defend is how they are losing. They are getting out coached in the second half. Coaches are pulling Buzz williams over Butler in the second half last week type moves on Crean. Sad thing for IU, and us back in the day was it is still happening. They throw something different or God forbid a zone at him and he soils himself. How many times when he was at MU and now at IU do teams that literally never zone throw the zone at him. he soils himself. Still hasnt beaten Syracuse!! LOL
This year has been even more plaesurable as teams throw a change at IU late the large blown leads in the last minutes have been epic and downright comical. The Titanic is sinking and ol Tommy Boy is just a pacing and clapping, taking a few hits from his diet cola and adjusting his ill-fitting pleated slacks. My Goodness they were up 11 with 2 minutes left.
I think the IU faithful are not as upset with the losses as the fact that they have a clueless coach blowing nice late leads and they know he is powerless against it. It's a train wreck in slow motion and I need more popcorn!!
Man I hate Jim Burr. My wife knows if he's calling a game I'll be insufferable to sit next to. And I don't think he has it out for MU, I think he's just terrible at his job now, regardless of past experience. The thing that gets me more than anything is the calls he makes when he's clearly not in position (ie calling a foul or possession on balls knocked out of bounds from half court when there's another ref right at the baseline on top of the play).

I try not to call out officiating I think is unfair, because I know I'm biased, but I will call out bad officiating. He makes the game of basketball less enjoyable for those playing and watching.

I completely understand that it is a thankless job and that I am biased as far as MU games go, but this year's officiating seems to be the worst I have ever seen (and that is as true for non-MU games as MU games). Some games they call the new hand check calls, other games they let all out mauling. A lot of Eurosteps seem to be getting the pass and phantom out of bounds. I don't have the footage to prove my point, but I like to think that I am somewhat impartial on this issue (at least when MU is not involved). Anyone else feel this way? Anyone hear of others making the same complaint on other boards or any articles?

Agree with everything except the Eurostep. Technically its not a travel because youre picking up your dribble as you are taking that one jab step before you go up with the ball. Kind of like a jump stop except your only using one leg and keep your momentum going forward.
Speaking of larger than life sports officiating, Bruce Froemming's son went to Marquette. Froemming was a regular at Marquette games.

Agree on most of what you said on Burr, except I have no inside knowledge of you being insufferable. However, Burr definitely has a hate woody for MU, and especially Gardner. Don't know why about Gardner, except ,maybe Burr is jealous that Gardner has slimmed down and Burr hasn't.

Meh, I can easily see how refs can be irritated with Gardner. Tries to draw a lot of calls. Exaggerates a lot has a lot of those stupid plays where he walks through guys after a play with his hands up. I love Ox but I can easily see how he can annoy fans of opposing teams and refs.

Greatest defense of Burr I have ever seen--blame it on Gardner. About as rational as Burr being jealous of
Gardner for slimming down. And by the way, Gardner is literally hacked on most of his inside moves to the basket, and many of those are not called.
