Buzz needs to have a chat with every recruit about twitter when they verbal to us. The Chief got a little testy tonight when some Badger fans started a rumor that he scored a 9 on the ACT.

Seems to be a pretty impulsive kid. Much better ways to respond than that.
Who cares!!
I thought his response was pretty measured. The only thing you could even question is calling the person a slut, But if someone is spreading Rumors I scored a 9 on the ACT, I think I might even use a stronger word.

Wait a 16 year old in high school, on twitter, and impulsive???? Color me shocked (not making fun of you Sultan, just venting a little ;D)

Oh I agree and I don't think he should be punished in any way. But as a public figure, calling someone a "slut" is really not helping things. Especially when the the site that originated the rumor is basically a troll-account to begin with.
Is it even possible to score a 9 on the ACT? I thought the lowest was a 12 or maybe 14

While he is a public figure, I find it funny a college sophomore girl at UW-Eau Claire, is trolling a high school junior about his ACT score.
She is going places in life.

We should do the right thing and rescind his scholarship

Love how she is from UW- Eau Claire and not even Madison. Those are the worst type of Bucky fans. Albeit UWEC is a pretty damn school on it's own
Maybe she really is a slut.
I think it's great and I hope Big Chief doesn't sit for anyone. She tried to insult his intelligence. He insulted her sexual prowess. Seems like a pretty normal teenage interaction that happens in every hallway of every school nearly every day in this country.
If anything, the college sophomore should be above crap like this but for someone from Wisconsin who goes to Eau Claire I'm guessing the maturation trajectory is behind the norm.
Buzz will need to get him ready. Cohen will be hearing a lot worse from Bucky fans once he's actually in a Marquette uniform.

you got a mission this weekend Tommy.
I thought we were referring to his politically incorrect twitter handle of "Chief"

1% of all test-takers receive an 11 or below; the lowest possible score is a 1.
I tutored a student last summer who has a 3.0 GPA at her Catholic high school, but earned a 15 the first time she took the ACT.

Yeah I understand that on one level.
But really outside of the short term satisfaction you get from that, what are you gaining calling some anonymous woman a slut? You come off as over sensitive. And you think her insulting your intelligence is bad? What happens over the next four years when you have a bad game...or are suspended for some anonymous reason?
There is no upside...only downside. He has to realize that.

Wow, 11 or below?
Crazy to think that there are actually people who do worse than pure chance.
"Ok, listen here, son. Your ACT strategy is to sneak a die into the exam. Roll it quietly on every question. 1 is A, 2 is B, etc. Do not read the question or even attempt to think about the answer, otherwise you will screw up the plan and lower your score."
Looks like Sandy will be sitting out game next year.

I know a girl who got into UW with an 18 on her ACT back in '05... not exactly a 9 but I'm pretty sure you get a 20 for writing your name correctly on the exam.....

Not sure how facetious you were being but a score of 20 is 49th percentile nationally.

Out of state, right? They'll do anything for those extra tuition dollars. Believe they still have the lowest percentage of in-state students of any public school in the nation.
What's this sluts digits??....oh wait

At 34%, not even the largest in UW System. (Superior has over half of their students from Minnesota.)
They are about #15 among large national publics.

Interesting, and a nice improvement. Think it was in the 40%'s a decade or so ago.

Then you are feeding us lies. Sorry, I got wait-listed with a much higher score in 2000.

I actually believe it is West Virginia.

There are factors which minimize the weight of an ACT score, (documented learning disabilities being one of the most common), but without a unusual circumstance, there is no way an at-large student with a 19 was accepted into Madison in 2005.

Could have...special talent...underrepresented demographic group...outstanding extracurriculars or community service. I agree it is unlikely, but it's not completely impossible.
Here's another good policy. Don't follow 16 year olds on Twitter. Maybe because I'm not active on twitter, I think the whole phenomenon is strange.

I understand that it comes off as voyeuristic, but I would compare it to watching Hard Knocks or Behind Marquette Basketball (or whatever that mini-series a few years ago was called).
Do I care about 90% of the stupid things high school recruits post to twitter? No. Do I care about the vast majority of things posted by the people I follow on Twitter? No. Am I interested when a recruit announces their final list of schools on Twitter? Yes. Am I interested when an MU player posts pictures of a recent road trip or practice? Yes.

We also don't know the GPA and the trend of the GPA throughout high school.

Hey me too (many, many extracurriculars), with a very high GPA. Still got wait listed. I have serious doubts that she was being honest. My friend that went to MU with me from my HS had better grades than me, well above a 20 on his ACT. Also, he was wait listed and then rejected.
I mean, I guess it is possible, but I am highly doubtful that a 19 gets anyone into Madison without some unreal circumstances.

It wasn't a 19... it was an 18.... and I'm positive that's what she got... she met with the guidance counselor many many times b/c it's where she wanted to go. I can't remember how long it took before she found out but she eventually got in for the Fall semester.
