Just saw he signed a 10 day contract with the Celtics
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA 2m
With injury to Avery Bradley, Boston will sign Vander Blue of Delaware in D-League to 10 day contract, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
So he goes from being cut from his Israeli team to playing for the Boston Celtics. I'd say he wins that one. Even if it is short lived.
Nice!

Outstanding news! Here's to him making an impact!
Gets some Brad Stevens tutelage too. Bet Stevens had something to do with it after last year's tournament.

Congrats Vander! Hope he takes advantage if given an opportunity.
I play Daily Fantasy Sports and saw this write up about Vander's signing. Sounds like he's actually gonna get some decent run tomorrow night against John Wall and co.
"With Jerryd Bayless (toe) and Avery Bradley (ankle) both hurting, and Rajon Rondo not likely to play in back-to-back games, the Celtics are quite literally out of guards. Blue could actually see decent minutes tomorrow night, and the fact Bradley couldn't return to tonight's game, and the signing of Blue, suggest that Bradley could be sidelined for some time."

Way to go Vander - hope you shine!
Congrats Vander, make the most of your opportunity
I guess this answers the question of "when will Vander Blue make the NBA?"
Great to hear!
OT win, Dawsome, Steve Taylor Freed, Stone Rumors, Van - this has been a great 24 hours!
Interesting that the few national people who have commented, seem to love Vander to the Celtics.

Thrilled for Van--great news.
Awesome! Hopefully this is the start of something big.
Went for 35 last night in 38 mins of D-League........now in the Association, props to him
Brad Stevens was praying to the basketball Gods....and they sent him Vander Blue on a 10 day contract
Hey hey, at least $28k in 10 days is never a bad deal! Good luck VB.
Boston's current guards on the ESPN depth chart: Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Jerryd Bayless, Phil Pressey. Out of those four, three are hurt, with Pressey the only one healthy at the moment. Bradley and Bayless are likely to miss multiple games, and Rondo is slowly coming back from his torn ACL and getting acclimated to playing again. Wojnarowski says Vander could get decent playing time right away, and the Celtics are trying to activate him for Wednesday's game. This looks like an awesome opportunity for Vander.
Ugh, now I really want to go to the game in DC tomorrow night with a big Vander sign.
Rusillo tweeted about it, I didn't see who it was on NBA TV (only heard it in the next room) saying they liked it a lot.

The Celtics are in tank mode..they just traded Marshon Brooks and Jordan Crawford and now Rondo is slow in getting back, Avery is down and so is Bradley?
My goodness....that is their entire guard line. Boston tanking hard. I find it ironic how all those guys went down all at once like that.
The 2nd Half of the Butler game last March was the best stretch he ever had at MU. Could that have weighed on Stevens mind, assuming he was asked for input?
Congrats to Vander. Wife and I will be wearing our MU colors when we go to watch DJO play in Erie tomorrow night.

That's Van-tastic news.
Brad Stevens had some nice things to say about Blue and the Marquette Brand of Player.
"Vander is a tough kid. Vander is a guy who is a competitor," said Stevens. "You look around the league and a lot of those Marquette guys have done really well in the league. You look at the (Wesley) Matthews and the (Jimmy) Butlers and that. I think he kind of fits that mold of a tough guy."

Given the Celtics injury problems, let's hope he plays every game and earns a second 10 day. My recollection is that a player is limited to 2 ten day contract before a team needs to sign him for the rest of the year.

Raptors turned out to be a very poor match for Novak. I don't watch their games, so I don't know why this is the case, but he needs to go to a team that values his very unique (and extremely limited) skill set. It's silly to pay somebody so much to sit on the bench when there are teams he definitely could help.

He's not quite Birdman, but he's definitely rockin' some NBA tats!
Now THAT'S a typical Vander shot: off-balanced, around the hoop, andddddd it somehow goes in.
For those hoping to see Vander play, the Celtics play on ESPN at 5:30 central time tonight. Hopefully he doesn't choke on national TV like Marquette usually does.

No big deal. NBA and college basketball didn't rate very high in this poll so not many people will take note anyways. NBA was 5th most popular sport, edging out Nascar. College bball came in 7th place, edging out golf.
It's amazing how bad college bball is with the exception of March Madness. So few people care.

Also Wednesday, the Celtics traded backup point guard Jordan Crawford along with shooting guard MarShon Brooks to Golden State on Wednesday as part of a three-team trade that brought Joel Anthony from Miami to Boston.

We had this discussion months ago in the football concussions thread. Basketball is a gnat on an elephant's arse. It isn't close to football....nor is anything else. Not even in the most remote conditions right now. Pure domination.
Football going nowhere anytime soon

Avery Bradley is expected to be back on Sunday. That makes me think that it's unlikely for Blue to be extended, so to speak. I have no insider info or anything though and I hope I'm wrong.
Vander was sent back to the DLeague, but may be back.
http://www.masslive.com/celtics/index.ssf/2014/01/vitor_faverani_vander_blue_ass.html
And Stevens is raving about Vander:
QuoteBlue's 10-day contract with Boston expires after Friday. Head coach Brad Stevens said the Celtics are undecided on whether to extend him for another 10 days.
"I'm talking to (president of basketball operations) Danny (Ainge) here in a little bit," Stevens said early Friday afternoon after practice. "Don't know exactly. But he was fantastic in practice today. I give him a lot of credit. Even when he didn't play, his attitude was great. He worked. And he, in a lot of cases, was a dominant player in practice. He's maximized this for the opportunities that he was given in a game."
