... at least we didn't lose at home to North Dakota State!

Ever see denverMU dance a jig before?
A catchphrase said throughout 2006 as a hilarious rip on the Badgers. And then...

My favorite college football team is the same as my second-favorite college basketball team:
Whoever is playing Notre Dame!

Not quite a jig, but it did put a smile on my face!

No Dick deserves it. Arrogant jer#*ffs.
Nice. I'm tiring of hearing radio ads (on sports radio) to buy tickets to "come and see Notre Dame play Ohio State at MSG for the first time as a member of the ACC."
On a related note, ESPN (that paragon of PC, as part of the Disney family) turned down a paid ad from a Catholic organization announcing "Christ"mas celebration as birth of Christ and faith in God. According to ESPN, it was "problematic" and expressed faith which does not fit in with their model.
It will be fun to watch ESPN's PC over the next few weeks to hear their announcers and analysts mention Christmas. At any rate Merry XMas, ESPN, and same to you Hannah Montana/Miley Sourpuss.

They probably turned it down because it is too preachy. Personally, I think if they ran it, then we'd see a lot more of these type of ads. And they wouldn't all be Catholic.

It's not a related note, and all sorts of networks turn down overtly religious ads.
I don't need to learn about Catholicism or any other religion while watching ESPN. I watch ESPN to get away from the rest of the world.

It is related to Catholicism, which is what ND is purported to be, and Sultan you lecturing me about what you believe networks do is hilarious. I have already addressed your credibility. And please, if you do not recognize satire, then read a book.

I've heard that the X in "X-mas" means Christ anyway. I know in Greek the abbreviation for Christ is IC XC, where the X is chi ("kai") so saying X-mas actually another way of saying "Chirstmas." That's the etymological story, not sure if it's true, however.

The ironic thing is that the only time Christmas was truly outlawed in this country was because of a bunch of religious zealots.

Yep, the X is a "shortcut" for the Chi-Rho symbol, a combination of the Greek letters for "Christ". The X has a probably unintentional resemblance to a cross. The Chi-Rho symbol meant "good" in Pagan Greek before Christianity, and was considered a "heavenly divine symbol" by Constantine. So, next time somebody claims the X in X-Mas is a sacrilege, you can share the rich history behind its usage.

"Related note"? That was a stretch...
I'm glad ESPN did this. I am Catholic, but I don't need to see these ads when I'm watching college basketball. Or anything else on TV for that matter.
The Catholic organization would be better off following the Pope's example and giving their money to charity, rather than trying to run some right-wing political War on Christmas TV campaign.
I saw the ad--it is merely a celebration of Xmas, no right wing anything. Just a simple question: If you watch ESPN, do their other commercial ads get you uptight like this?

Xn is also shorthand for "Christian" and Xny is shorthand for "Christianity."

Who is benefiting from the ad? Who in America doesn't already know that the origin of Christmas is about the birth of Jesus? Who are they converting with a 30 second spot between Buffalo Wild Wings and Old Navy?
Is it helping the poor? Is it contributing to some sort of greater good?
If it is a Catholic organization as it purports to be, there are better uses of its funds.

WHAT WILL THE CULTURAL CENSORS OF ESPN BAN NEXT!?!

Yeah the organization does help the poor. Does ESPN? Besides how does the ad hurt you anymore than the other ads they run. Maybe you have a PC agenda like ESPN does. And believe me there are plenty of examples of their PC. Watch some of the analysts on ESPN editorialize frequently That is enough from me on this subject

ESPN is a private entity and can run or refuse to run any spots they want.
If you don't care for how they operate, quit watching. If enough people quit watching, ESPN will change how they do business.
That's the free market, my friend.

It has nothing to do with being PC. Absolutely nothing.
Going back to the original topic, this isn't as big of an upset as one might thing. NDSU was a top 100 team last year according to KenPom. They only lost 4% of their offense from last season. They had a rough loss against North Dakota but they will win the Summit and be a dangerous team in March

I would like you to name one major network that shows similar, overtly religious based ads like the one proposed for ESPN. Just one.
And the answer is, there aren't many, if any, that would show such an ad regardless if it is Xtian, Jewish, Muslim, or Wiccan. And the reason is that they don't want to do anything to alienate a good portion of their audience.
It's not PC at all...just good business.
On topic, and sure to get lost, I was impressed with the Bjorklund kid from North Dakota State. Definition of a big ugly whose game won't win beauty contests but was wildly effective.
How has this thing not gotten locked yet?

Now ESPN is a left-wing PC orgainzation trying to suppress the poor, poor Christians, that it huh?
Amazingly, amazingly dumb.

This just in. ESPN overruled themselves and decided to allow the ad for a Catholic Children's Hospital. That from the network that runs ads for Obamacare. That's it huh?
Amazingly dumb. Now back to basketball. Hope the Warriots win tomorrow.
