I know that Badger hate week starts on somewhat of a down note as we are heading into THEIR "Super Bowl" with 3 losses. But lets not that damper our spirits.
I have this strange feeling that we are going to play really well on Saturday and win by 10 plus. I know crazy right. But name one player on the Badgers that can hang with Big Sheesh? It wont be Kaminsky and his phantom 40 point game. Juan is going to lock down Sam Deck, and Mayo will relive his 2011 performance as a freshman and score countless high arching layups of the glass. Im excited, this team is playing much better than it was earlier and I truly believe that J-Will and Sheesh are going to extend it to 3 in a row, which means that Jamil Wilson will have never lost to the Badgers!!
Cannot wait to travel down there Saturday morning!
Marquette fans gathering anywhere before the game?
I'm not sure about winning by 10+, but MU certainly has a great chance to win. We've been winning games on strong rebounding and second chance points, and I think the paint is probably where the Badgers are most vulnerable this particular year. If they go a little cold from three and MU can put up a strong rebounding game with strong defense, we've got more than just a shot to win.
hate to be Debbie Downer, but I don't see us staying within 10 points. We can't defend the three at all and can't shoot from outside 10 feet. Plus, Bo will start whining 20 minutes before tipoff and the refs will give them every call. We may play well, but winning in that dump is tough.

Even though I'm higher on this team than I was a week ago, I agree. They can all shoot, and MU hasn't been great covering the perimeter.
No more flopping by Brusewitz this year.
Expecting a loss. Could be tOSU redux.

Have you been to a game before in Madison? If so, they'll be everywhere down there. Not sure but I don't think MU is doing anything official beforehand.
I'll be there..section 205
We have 4 in section311... We will be the ones with the MU flag. Also, some people mentioned Wandos as a place to go before the game so that's probably where we will be.
Let's take over the Nitty Gritty. That'll be a friendly place.

I disagree with the perimeter talk. Don't confuse outcomes with ability. Just because a team makes a 3 doesn't mean it was a good shot or MU was bad at defending it. If you look at the last two weeks I think the defense has been there and forced some shot selection that unfortunately resulted in buckets but they were bad shots. You can't guard luck so to speak.

Love this one paragraph under the Wisconsin section in the 2nd link
"Ryan has written three books: Bo Ryan: Another Hill to climb - Another Loss to endure, The Swing (and a miss) Offense, and Passing and Catching (but not shooting): the Lost Art. If Bo Ryan owned a restaurant, you would not be able to get drunk as you would be tossed out after the first round."
And this one
"On January 27, 2007 UW-Platteville officially honored Ryan's 15-year tenure by naming the playing surface at Williams Fieldhouse "Bo Ryan Court". Ryan, along with the 2007 Wisconsin Badgers team, attended the event. After the latest NCAA Tourney gag against Ole Miss, UW-Plattville will rename the court to someone who has actually brought honor to the game of basketball. Someone like Hong Kong Phooey."
It's dated, but still makes me laugh. Not liking our chances this week, then again I gave UCLA no shot to beat USC in football this weekend starting 3 freshmen on the offensive line and they pulled it off.

They've given up a lot of open looks out there that have gone unpunished. The wings have had a bad habit of getting sucked in too far after giving help, or doubling down on a post catch and not recovering fast enough.

When has it ever been their "Super Bowl"? We make a much bigger deal about this game than they do. UW's big games to them are against the Michigan St, Ohio St, and other big ten teams.
I will put a plug in for Dahmen's Pizza Place on the west side. They are the only bar in town that will put our game on over the UW game. Wes stopped in and watched the WV game a couple of years ago (his friends are the owners). My cousin is getting married in Louisville on Saturday, so I will be unable to make the 3 mile trip to the Kohl Center.

I hear that every year and yet their actions defy this. Go to their message boards right now, are there multiple threads about OSU hoops, MSU....there are about MU which is interesting. To be frank it is neither team's Super Bowl, but it is for state bragging rights and a big game. With recruiting battles getting more interesting over the years, it has only added to the game's meaning.
Personally, when I see them saying it's not that big a game afer they lose it, that speaks volumes. It becomes comedic at that point.
Wish I could say I felt confident for this upcoming game, but I don't. Fun nevertheless. Big game for us, big game for them. Of course conference games are bigger, but this is one of the few games that the state pays attention. Would love to see us win 3 of 4.

I totally agree. It's neither's Super Bowl, but a big game for both teams nonetheless. Both sides would be lying if they said it was not a big game. But like I said earlier and what you pointed out, conference games and especially rivals inside of the conference are a whole new level. This is just for state bragging rights.

This is definitely their biggest game. None of those other schools really hate them the way we do. In the past UW was always second to Notre Dame, maybe even behind Louisville and DePaul (when they were good). This is probably our biggest rivalry now too. But if you look at Fran, Swenson, and other guys that spend more time on basketball boards talking about Buzz and Marquette than they do their own team, you can see their hate runs deep.
Awesome to see BBFranIdiot just get owned by fellow Badger fans for criticizing Buzz for his final timeout. Badger fans defended Buzz by saying all coaches do that, including detailed examples of Bo doing the same.
BBFranIdiot also criticized Buzz for changing his outfit at half. Stating its proof it's all about Buzz and not the his players.

I think it largely comes down to how well we are shooting. If Jake, Todd, and Jamil are hitting their shots outside, we win. If not, it could be ugly because UW will be able to focus all their attention on protecting the paint. I expect either a close MU win or a Badger blowout.

Bo doesn't play zone, but his defense has a lot of "zonish" tendencies. I don't blame him for not playing it. Rarely are Wisconsin team's beat because the other team scores too much, but because Wisconsin doesn't score enough.
In the NCAA they held Marshall Henderson to 6/21 shooting...but UW only scored 21 second half points.

Thanks. Fran's father is shaking his head from on above. I think most people there took Fran to the woodshed. I've seen coaches, especially early in the season, call timeouts at the end of the games all the time to teach. For as much basketball he claims to watch and have played, I'm jackwagoned that he would say he has never seen it, let alone from Bo. Then to try and back pedal and claim a player called the timeout instead of the coach is ricockulous.

To be fair, Henderson actually shot a lower percentage than 28.6% eight times during the season.

We haven't been a good outside shooting team for quite some time, and yet the Badgers continually struggle to keep us out of the paint. I don't expect that to change. If we can contain them on D and limit offensive boards, I think we have a good chance to win. Either way, I would be surprised if we get blown out.
If MU continues is pathetic outside shooting, they'll have no chance Saturday. Bucky will try to draw Otule and Gardner outside but might have trouble defending the paint on them. Dekker is a beast for which we have no answer...hoping we don't get blown out...

Well, before the SDSU game, we did shoot 42.6% from beyond the arc in the three previous games out west. That would be top-25 in the country if we had been doing that all season.
When our shooters are on, we're tough to beat. When they aren't, we're very beatable. In their house, I could see it getting ugly if they're hitting and we're not. By blowout, I mean along the lines of Ohio State. For Wisconsin, 15 points is like 40 for a normal team.

Points per game is not an indication of pace. Bo's style is to play at an unwatchable crawl, but very efficiently. UW is #293 of 351 in adjusted tempo, which is lightning fast for them. Last year they finished #318 of 347, in 2011-12 they played at the slowest pace in the nation, #345, and second slowest in 2010-11. The positive for them is that they're 13th in offensive efficiency this year, an unusually bad 108th last year, and 20th the prior year, and #3 in 2010-11.

I used to actually read the Badger BBall boards. But its a bit monotonous...
Bo has never lost out on a recruit. If he doesn't get said recruit its because:
The recruit couldn't hack it academically at UW
The recruit was dirty some how
The other program promised the recruit playing time
UW is not actually worse than ANY program in American. Any program that is actually better does not do it the "right" way.
UW has never really played at a slow pace. Just ask KemPom :-)
Oh ya, almost forgot. College BBall was actually invented sometime around 1999-2000
you must have missed:
1) Every MU coach is a scumbag who uses players
2) MU players don't have to go to classes
3) Every MU student is bitter towards UW because they could not get into UW
4) Wisc is the Harvard of the Midwest academically
5) The Big 10 was not down when Barry / Bielema and Bo won their Big 10 titles.

No, not MU. If I remember correctly it was MSU and there were two game clocks with different times. Main clock expired, but secondary clock had not yet expired. Bo argued that shot should count---unsuccessfully to his and Uncle Fester's disapproval.

My favorite UW-MU game.

I was wondering the same thing. I love it when a player makes a big play right in the face of the other student section and gives them the shh finger

That was a thing of beauty.
I also liked last year when the kid sang the National Anthem and the Marquette players all mobbed him. UW then awkwardly joined in after seeing MU do it.

Actually I believe that was an accident as MU players were not instructed of the proper protocol of waiting at center court to shake hands, while the UW starters, dressed in their pajama warm-ups, did a little dance while pretending to pull guns out of their imaginary holsters and shooting them. Yes, MU are such bad sports.

Yeah the 2007 game. Great one!
I believe you are partially correct Dr. The first MU player introduced was just sitting at half court while the first UW player went on a little dance for about 30 seconds with every player on the team--very annoying. MU player shook hands with himself an walked away. No other MU player went to shake hands, but it was no accident. Can't recall who either player was.

You are correct. I was being sarcastic using the word accident. Like the MU player is supposed to wait there for that whole bad dance scene.
Gotcha--I criticized others for not being able to read sarcasm and I can't do it myself.

Jae was the Marquette player - and he had that complete "Jae badass look" the whole time. Brusewitz was the Badger.
EDIT: And then Jae proceeded to have his worst game of the year due to foul trouble.
My favorite recent moment is Dominic James volleyball spike blocked shot at the end of the game. Was that 2008?

Pulling pretend guns out of imaginary holsters is like playing Middle LB and dedicating the game to your fake imaginary girl/boy friend, and then keeping that façade going for over a month. "Play like your imaginary girlfriend died yesterday"

Yeah there is a resemblance. But Voigt is a better actor. Who can ever forget his role as the gigolo in Midnight Cowboy? Bo could never pull that off.
Snowed in at the bottom of our monster hill with 6 inches on the ground and more on the way. Can't wait for the game. Have plenty Coronas handy, along with martini mix and 40 Creek. So the weekend will not be a total loss.

Spartan knows everything that you need to know about Wisconsin Basketball.
The Hughes twins were Kim and Kerry. I found a great article about that game. Bob Wofley interviews Kim Hughes on 02/01/01 when Hughes was at the Bradley Center as interim HC of the Denver Nuggets. It turns out Kim has the picture hanging in his house. He thought it was comical.
