NICE. Great news.
Welcome, Mr. Pierce!
What great news!!!
Welcome Satchel!!
Such a good recruiting class!
Welcome to the MU community, Mr. Pierce!
Big get for Marquette, both literally and figuratively. Great to see Buzz putting classes together back-to-back like this. I think Pierce will be a great four-year player for us here and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the blue and gold.
What a class! Buzz and Company hit the trail Big. Awesome!!
Welcome to the family Satchel!! We needed you. Buzz's highest rated "big" yet....step in the right direction!
How many guys is that who commit without visiting. That's unheard of, correct? Don't follow other programs.
Buzz is an amazing recruiter.

Great! Welcome Satchel.
I didn't realize he was from Akron (St. Vincent-St. Mary -- Lebron's school) before transferring to the school in PA. Glad to hear he's moving to Milwaukee next!
Buzz has to be an unbelievable recruiter to grab a kid who has visited Miami.

Since he only plays in PA but is actually from Ohio, this should get us out of our PA recruit curse. That works out nicely.

The minutes are there for him. Satchel, Steve, Burton/Anderson, Mayo/JJJ, and Derrick/Duane/John. And that's before you even consider the rest of another outstanding Frosh class.
Buzz, you're going to spoil us.

Of course, I wasn't quite as coveted a recruit.
But seriously, folks ...
Very nice signing. Buzz easily is the second-best coach in Marquette history ... and closing fast!

Perhaps a little more explosiveness once he works with Todd and boom! he may be a good one.
Agree on the explosiveness. Time with Todd will probably help his quickness, too. But 7' and strong is a great place to start.
Welcome Satchel! I know you're going to be great here!
WE GOT A BIG!!!!! WOW!!!!! GOOD LUCK "SATCH"!
What was the name of that one tall guy who transferred to ISU, because he was too afraid to compete/work hard?!?
At least we're getting a center with a Satch.
I think the best news news to go with his height and decent skills is that he has a strong frame - not one of those 7 foot 200 pound bean-poles. His frame will give Todd a head start.

It was news to me that it is now Seton Halls. I guess that they now feature more than one hall is what helped them put together that solid recruiting class.

Anyone know who's got "editorial" responsibilities over at the Urinal Sentinel these days? It's clear that they're not doing their job if they're letting such crap get published. Then again, they're probably too busy helping Aaron Rodgers put on a sweater or tie his shoes to care what Mike Hunt spews out.

Who cares? WHat do you want him to write? How about this, "On a day in which Duke lands Jahlil Okafor and Kansas gets Cliff Alexander, Marquette received a verbal commitment from Satchel Pierce, a 6-10 center who may or may not contribute by the time he is a junior.

It seems like forever since we had a true center come to MU. So even though we get highly ranked players every year this feels especially gratifying. As for M.Hunt and the Journal Times I think he is a big UW fan and his article the way it was written is his way of minimizing the value of Pierce. That's an exciting video. He looks active around the rim, good hands, and looks to be comfortable in his body already. Tough to tell based on highlights, since we can't see his weaknesses, but based on the video there is a lot of potential. Very excited about this pickup.

By the time this gets done, we will find out that he is Mo Acker's "little" cousin.
Anybody out there have factual info on this fellow? Stats, etc. What is his actual height? He will likely play significant minutes at the 5 next year. Does he have good shot blocking ability? Is there a good link out there that tells us more?
I think Scout has older stats. Everything else I have seen says 6'11" or 7', and around 240-250.
He hustles...plays decent defense...but isn't terribly refined on the offensive end. I wouldn't count on him for huge minutes next year. I wouldn't doubt that Buzz looks for a graduate transfer or a JUCO big of some sort. Otherwise we will be playing small a lot.
A quick interview with Pierce from back in August... It gives some insight, plus shows MU wasn't even in the picture 3 months ago.

Excellent news! Welcome to the family Mr. Pierce. Can't wait to see you banging in the post.
I'm loving this. Assuming no transfers, declarations, or acts of god, we already know who 7 out of the 13 players will be for our 2017 team. It's looking like a starting lineup of Noskowiak, Hill, Cohen, Shayok, and Pierce with Harris and Flory coming off the bench.
I just looked at the NBA Top 100 Camp and recognized a name: Alonzo Mourning.
Were we on his radar?

The only dude I know of who's "banging the post" around here is F*ckin'. And, that ain't a pretty sight, ya know?
I am not looking for huge numbers from him next year. If he can guard the post, rebound, finish around the rim on either rebounds or dump off passes from a slashing guard/forward, make free throws, I will be happy. Long term, I hope he has the ability to establish in the post like Otule with hands like Gardner. That combination will make him a presence.
