Also worth noting that he redshirted at Chipola JC. Tried to find some stats of how he did last year and finally found out he redshirted.
"Cassell was ruled ineligible by the NCAA last September. Maryland challenged the ruling, but the appeal was denied later that month. By the time the 6-foot-3 ½, 185-pound combo guard enrolled at Chipola, junior college rules stated that he would have had to sit out the first semester. So instead of suiting up as a freshman, Cassell focused on his academics, practiced, worked out and took a redshirt year." -Baltimore Sun Article
Ineligibility I found was due to the class Norte Dame Prep had him take.

Which means he will have to graduate from the Juco this year. And I think since he redshirted last year, that would leave him with three years of eligibility.
While I can see enough resemblance to recognize the paternal link, it's good to know he doesn't look too much like Sam Sr.

Pass. MU has enough bodies in the backcourt.
Looks like Buzz wants to take this team to a new level: no longer building a house, but building a Cassell.

You have to take the players you can get that will improve the overall team.

??? If Buzz wants him enough to have him come an official visit, who are you to say otherwise???
Maybe he's paying his own tuition and not taking a scholly.

Exactly. Rating don't mean a whole lot. And, even if they do, the difference between a lot of top 50 guys and top 150 guys is negated by one year of above average development.

he's not a 5 star big. we don't need him.

Also, not a big (but Buzz doesn't recruit bigs anyway)
I think he'll be a good get.
Consider him insurance against any transfers; good lineage; and most importantly, some in-roads into the MD hot bed of recruiting.

crap, I don't know, a fan who is allowed to have an opinion.
Next time, he'll dial up the pompous and self righteous tone so it passes your muster.

You see who else recruited him out of high school? And now is currently recruiting him? Remember Buzz's history with JUCO players? I'd bet if he ends up at Marquette he ends up being a stud.

And consider that he'll be more mature than most freshman that enter MU's program.
He has the makings of an impact player.

I dunno, a couple of guards could always get groin pulls...
That'd be a lot of NBA pedigree with Cassell and Mayo.

Geez, Chicos, don't you realize that the athletes and their families read these threads! Now Buzz has no chance to land Junior.

Old news, he was on a few lists the last few years.
I remember this from 2007 .... from a lyric "ugly like Sam Cassell"

Cassell's official visit to MU starts today per Paint Touches.
So, no posts about TC/IU contract yet?
Said he "enjoyed the visit" (said the same thing about the Missouri visit)

Are you confused regarding the concept of a message board?
You might be better off reading:
http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-baskbl/marq-m-baskbl-body.html
If you go there, you'll only get all content approved by Buzz, and only content approved by Buzz--without all those other other opinions you find so annoying that might taint your reading experience.
Now that's an in-depth interview! ::)
If I were to bet, I'd say Cassell and Hill end up at Marquette and Missouri. Not sure if it will be in that order, but both schools are pursuing both players for likely one slot. With FSU's recent commits, I think they are out for Cassell.
Not sure where that would leave Shayok or the bigs. Wouldn't surprise me if we ended up with Cassell or Hill, Shayok, and a big (my money on Craig or Miller). Transfer history indicates that would be the prudent option. But all just reading tea-leaves.

Would not be surprised to see a transfer. I think we replace that transfer with a late JUCO or "Russell Wilson" transfer.
You mentioned FSU's recent commitments. I'm not sure a juco PG and a juco SF would scare away a SG. But I hope it does. It'd be nice to see either in MU uniform, though I'm personally much more excited about Hill.
Well apparently Buzz is visiting Ahmed today, so let's hope all goes well. Would be nice to secure one of these guards and a big.
The Ville's two recent decommits at guard have come back to impact MU's recruiting. Sam Cassell Jr. has now set up an official visit to Louisville, September 28th.

I don't know specifically, but if I were to guess I would think that MU is going to wait to see what happens with Hill this weekend. My guess is that Cassell is going to UConn anyway.
That is my feeling that he is MU's and was Indiana's plan B. MU wants him if they do not get Hill and I suspect Buzz is pretty confident at this point about Hill. However, that is how coaches set themselves up to get burned. Cassell may be plan B simply because he is a three year player versus Hill being a four year player.
Committed to Uconn.
Sam Jr committed to UCONN today.

LOL
Before Louisville came into the picture, it seemed like Missouri and Marquette were more likely destinations, but the Tigers were zeroed in on Devin Booker and Marquette seemed more focused on Hill and Shayok. Cassell obviously didn't want to wait, so he went with two schools that were showing him the most interest at the time. Of course, when Louisville dropped out, that kind of forced his hand.
