Paint Touches tweeted put Marquette and Rutgers transfer Jerome Seagears have seta visit. Would be a really nice get. Have read NCAA may grant all Rutgers transfers waivers for immediate eligibility due to mike rice fiasco.
If we can get him immediately then I'm all for it. Not sure he's worth waiting a year for though.
Would be a good get.
Rather have the other Rutgers guy
Carter or Seagears immediately is a good grab. Even if they dont replace Vanders scoring, they provide another facet of depth to the guard position. I dont think JJJ is gonna be an impact player right out of the gates, but I see him filling a similar role to Todd his freshman year, but scoring a bit more.
He's a solid player and former borderline top 100 recruit but do we really need another point guard? We already have 3 (Du. Wilson, De. Wilson, Dawson) and I think Duane will be able to make up for the large majority of Junior's production by himself. Would rather have a 2 or a 3.
You just listed two freshmen and a junior who has significant deficiencies. This is a potential top 10 team...an experience PG would be great.
And Duane could definitely play an off guard position.

Point taken, I'm just really high on Wilson. There's no telling how good he'll be though so an experienced PG would definitely help, I agree.

Yep....would much rather have Eli Carter.
Shot 38% from 3. Would be a solid contributor but no game changer. I'd take it.

A big time athlete who can play either guard spot, Seagears has a lot of potential. He exploded on to the scene late in his high school career, and began showing his ability to score from inside and out. Seagears does need to transition from a scoring combo guard into a true point guard and that means making better decisions with the basketball.
Carter would be better from a pure scorer...but he isnt even looking at MU i thought
Here's a highlight reel from HS.

Looks like he has a lot more "flash" to his game than someone like junior. If he can shoot that would be very helpful. Agree I'm not totally sure if we need another PG like this but we'll see. Sorta reminds me of AI.

I assume by that you mean a point guard because of height, not game.
Just looked at the mixtape. A mixtape of a HS PG without a single play where he is creating for someone else. If Buzz wants him, I'm all for it. But, let's not miscategorize him as a PG based on his height. I'd think that DJO isn't a bad comparison.

Yes, similar height and flash to his game. Iverson was a shooting guard. The thing is, AI is/was one of the best to ever play the game. He had the talent to make any great play on the court. Seagears appears to be a short shooting guard, hence my comparison.

So he'd be our 5th highest rated newcomer? I'd rather give Duane the minutes. He will make everyone forget the name Dominic James.

Be serious. People can't here forget DJ Newbill.

This exactly. We could use another point. I'd prefer a senior grad transfer, but if he can play next year I think Seagears would be a very good add.
Another PG? We already have 3, and some on this board have said that J. Wilson can play the point, while others have suggested that Mayo can play Point. Oh I get it, we can play a PG at every position, becuase OX is a PG in a big man's body!
Most freshmen are inconsistent and the worst position for inconsistency is point guard. I love Derrick for the toughness he brings to the court, but he is not a distributor. I do not have great faith in Mayo being available every game. Thomas is a good teammate and I am glad to have him back on the team. We need an experienced point guard more than anything else on this team.

I'd prefer Myles Mack to either of them. Carter is strictly a volume shooter and Seagears isn't really the true point guard we need. But I would take Seagears ahead of Carter as I don't think Carter would look as good in an offense where he couldn't take 12 shots per game.

Is Mack transferring? He would be the ideal get, would basically reproduce and improve Vander's numbers from this past year.

No, see attached. These guys are looking at a bunch of schools.

Myles Mack hasn't announced yet but is said to still be making his decision. I think it's worth giving it a couple days in case he decides to explore his options.

Great post.
Really great post.
I didn't like that video from that earlier post (because of all the slow-mo camera stuff) so I YT'd Seagears and came up with this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ThyfapTfJE
After watching the video, I decided I wanted Rodney Purvis instead. His flair for the dramatic would so fit into MU's current style of play. ;)
But Seagears did drop 50 in that game.
Not sure about him. Handles the ball (good) but dribbles a lot in place (bad). Can shoot it (good) but is he quick and strong enough to handle the physical play MU implements?
And as with most player videos, not much passing was seen (except one).
Marquette reportedly has an in-home visit with Seagers today, according to CBS' Jeff Borzello.

Per his HS coach @fmabballcoach, Rutgers transfer Jerome Seagears has home visits today with Baylor and Marquette, then WVU on Tuesday.
Does he have to sit out a year? If so, why do they want him? They'll have Wilson, Wilson and Dawson. The only thing I can assume is Duane projects as more a 2 on the collegiate level.
I believe all Rutgers transfers are allowed to play immediately due to the coaching change.

There's talk that the Rutgers transfers won't have to sit out due to the Mike Rice situation. Guess that's the reward for constantly having your manhood questioned while basketballs fly at your head. I think the hope if we add him is he can come in and immediately compete with Derrick for the starting PG role while also providing some outside shooting. This team definitely needs experience at the guard spots and while I'd rather see Myles Mack say he was transferring and go for him, I do prefer Seagears to Eli Carter.
No, the Rutgers transfers won't have to sit out a year due to their school's demotion to the Big Ten.

A better assumption is that Seagears projects to a SG, think DJO.
