Tip time moved to 8:04.
-
Miami up 5-0.
-
I think we can matchup decently well on defense, we would just have to wear out larkin and pressure him constantly. On offense, I see Otule and Gardner having a lot of trouble scoring with their length and size, so the scoring load would fall on blue, wilson, junior, and lockett. Thats assuming they win of course, which i think they should have no problem doing against this streaky Illinois team.
-
Miami started out on fire. Now neither team can make a shot.
7-2.
-
7-7 This is an ugly game.
-
Do both teams live and die by the three?
-
Do both teams live and die by the three?
Illinois definitely does, not sure yet about Miami.
-
12 combined three point attempts in under 8 minutes and they've made 3.
They just keep jacking it up.
-
Wtf is with the connection? Anyone else's tv keep getting choppy
-
3PT
UofI: 4/8
UM: 2/8
-
Hopefully Illinois can blow their three point load tonight and go cold on Thursday.
-
1) why is Gardner playing for Miami?
2) why does Illinois rim sound like an aluminum can when they hit it?
-
Fun game to watch thus far, neither team really scares me as a potential matchup.
-
Miami does not scare me.
Bring em on.

can you imagine that matchup? DG is clearly superior skills wise.
-
Anyone know if MU is down in Austin scoutin' this game in person?
-
Larkin seems to be bothered by pressure/double teams, something i am sure he will see if they advance.
-
I don't know anything about it but I'd imagine they would... Probably Chew & Wainwright each scouting each team?
-
I'm not down with this neon shoe color thing.
-
Is there anything more than can be learned being there instead of watching on tv?
-

Yes. Buzz said before that you can hear the coaches and what they are yelling or instructing etc.
-
Ah gotcha.
-
Is Miami a good 3 pt shooting team...or are they just on fire right now.
-
Jerry and Brad took a flight to Texas.
Had dinner at Buzz's mom's house first.
You bet yer ar$e they are there.
-
I'd put Vander on Larkin. His size will bother him.

Seriously? That's great.

Is it me or is this a really boring game? Plus these highlighter colors are really annoying.

Well, we are a little spoiled this year.
Illinois seems very streaky.

Do they get to go back to the hotel or flying back right after the game?

True. However, I haven't been very impressed by either team thus far. We'll see what the second half looks like....
-
Paul can be a load. Very quick
-

Yet, like Clarke, all right handed.
-
Bigger and stronger
-

I think they have a steak at Yellow Rose after the game.
-
Bigger and stronger
But with no inside game to counteract their perimeter game.
-
Yet, like Clarke, all right handed.
Most underrated improvement in Vander's game, the ability to finish with his left. Game winner against Davidson was succesful because they designed it against tendency and got Cohen leaning left assuming Vander would go to his right, not left.
-
It won't be hard to make more free throws than the opposition attempts.
Half time: no free throws made yet.
They are in for a rude awakening.
-
Junior is going to have a tough time guarding either Paul or Larkin - not a good match up in the point guard area against either team.

Abrams does a heavy bulk of the point duties. That's who junior would guard. Vander and Trent would take the Paul/Richardson combo
-
Don't forget DWill will be on lockdown mode for part of the game.
-
Pulling for Illinois for their shallow bench... We've got to just wear them out they only play 7 deep
-
Read today that Larkin was originally a DePaul commit. Larkin followed Purnell who recruited him at Clemson. Larkin even took some summer classes before bailing for Miami.

That's true, and understandably they still talk about what a huge set-back that was.
Miami just attacks the glass- bodies flying.
-
Miami is soft...the ACC isn't exactly known for it's physicality. That be in for a rude awakening vs. MU.
-

I see that Shaw kid that we recruited so hard (until Buzz cooled on him) who selected IL has not broken into the rotation. I wonder what the problem is.
-
And is that right- those were the first two free throw attempts by the Illini w 10 minutes left in second half? How is that possible with Paul?
-
I didn't see the game tonight to say this, but tonight just confirms, what was all the fuss over Miami?? They just don't scare me. MU would drive to the hole at will against them.
-
I can't tell by watching this game who I would prefer MU to play on Thursday - I think MU will have its hands full with both teams.
-

They do have some shot blockers.
-
How dirty is Paul? First the flapping arm BS at the free throw line, then the worst flop attempt I've ever seen...
-
Does Illinois look pretty long to you? Wonder if that would cause us much problems
-

Derrick Wilson
-
Illini and especially Paul are so streaky. Some huge wins this year, some baffling loses. Can they hang on? Canes unraveling a bit here late.
-
Everyone of those Paul highlights with the drive to the hoop with the right hand. B1G teams took that away...Miami not prepared.
-
From watching Illinois al year long heres what I see. Everybody knows about Paul, hes a better shooting Vander. DJ Richardson has probably gotten worse since his freshman year but hes still a damn good shooter, put Trent on him. Next Abrams is a solid PG has the ability to shoot the ball also. Egwu is a tremendous shot blocker and rebounder and pretty good at putbacks. Has a decent mid-range game. Griffey is a great shooter, not good on D and not a good rebounder. They usually only play two guys off the bench. McLaren. Not an offensive threat whatsoever and Bertrand is a pure scorer when hes on. He can score many different ways.
-
I'd prefer Illinois because Buzz has a great treat record of taking away a teams best option or two and having the rest of the team try to beat you. I think Miami has more scorers.
-
I won't make any bold predictions just yet, but I will say that I am much more confident playing the Miami v. Illinois winner than I would be if we were playing the Duke v. Creighton winner.
-
Hope Illinois can pull this out. Damn Larkin and his big 3.
-
Miami has more size too. I don't know if I like that.

yep
-
Awful call.
-
Awful awful call.
-
Wow. TERRIBLE call. :o
-
That's a game changer
-
Wow. Not reviewable. You can review a flagrant one that occurred 20 seconds before a clock stoppage, but not this.
-
Officials have had a horrible tournament.
-
How does the baseline ref not make that call or over rule the sideline official? There's no way the sideline official could make that call.
-
Ok, I will make one prediction. This officiating crew will not be working the final four.
-
Surprise this was not posted ... They ran a graphic that Illinois has had at least 1 player from Peoria for the last 20 straight years. I don't think MU can say that about Milwaukee!
-
Huge eff up by Illinois there. Have to foul Johnson, good god.
-

For a long time they said that about Chicago.
-

love that we are building consistency in Milwaukee, Chicago and Madison... Would be huge to own those schools
-
Miami it is.
I believe that we will win.

Wayne McClain had about 95% to do with that. He went with Weber to Manhattan.
-
Miami's going to be a tough, tough out.
-
Larranaga sounds like George Bluth
-
I really think the key will be trying to contain Larkin. He makes everything go. Gonna have to give him some different looks. Should be a good game.
-
Well if Miami plays a game like they did against Wake Forest, I like our chances.
-

Illinois has a lot of talent, but they don't play very smart.
Miami is a tough match-up for MU. That hasn't prevented MU from winning games in the past though. Thursday can't come fast enough!
-
Miami it is.
-
Miami seems just happy to be in the S16, whereas Marquette sounds like they've got more business to take care of. I like our chances Thursday.
-
I like that Larkin is only 5'11. Yeah, he's great, but Paul is damn good too. And larger. I think we have some beef up front too. Kadji is pretty big but didn't play that well. I don't know who their fat dude is but Gardner can take him. Their wings will be tough to defend but out of the last two sweet sixteens this is definitely our best shot right now.
UNC had a huge advantage inside with Zeller and Henson. Florida had size and toughness down low mixed with shooting. Miami is athletic, can run and shoot pretty well but doesn't have any overwhelming advantages. Not to mention the experience factor too. If any year is ours, this is it.
-
Miami's going to be a tough, tough out.
Yeah, I think so too. Their bigs are going to give us fits and D Wilson will have to play a lot to help contain Larkin if Jr can't stay with him.
-
Gotta kick some motherf*ckin' Hurricane ass.
-
Have to remember tonight Miami won almost inspite of Scott. He was way off his game tonight (maybe it was his eye), they are so difficult to contain. I'd feel better if Wilson or Junior were more athletic. Will be tougher for MU to pressure the backcourt, wouldn't be shocked to see MU try some zone.
-
Illinois stayed in the game with sheer will power and toughness. If they think Illinois plays physical they're in for a rude awakening against Marquette. I'm confident.
-
There's no chance we play in the afternoon is there? Are they all evening games?
-

All evening games. Earliest start will be 6:00 CDT
-
All the Illini fans on ESPN wanting us to win.
-
All evening games. Earliest start will be 6:00 CDT
I guess I'll have to go to work on Thursday then :/
-
Part of me -- the part who has a lot of Illiniwek friends and would have hated losing to them in the Sweet 16 -- is glad Illinois lost.
The other part of me is scared to death of Miami ... but I think we all saw that the Hurricanes ain't invincible, either. Nobody in this tournament field is, that's for sure.
-
Reggie Johnson vs. Ox will be AWESOME to watch they are both listed around 290 pounds. What a matchup that will be. Having Otule switch in with Ox will be huge for us.
Junior vs. Shane will be a mismatch. Shane is too good and too fast. Derrick might be looking at extended minutes yet again
I think going Zone will be a good move, Buzz has a week to prepare.
I agree 100% with the idea that this is our best shot for the elite 8...Thursday can't come soon enough
