I read the topic and feared the annual rumors of Buzz leaving were starting already.  I doubt he'd be seriously considered by the Vatican, but ESPN has reported stranger rumors.

Lol.  Or is it the Vatican City Cardinals that want to join the C7?

It sounds like Rome actually does homework and remembers previous conversations with Buzz.    Buzz nailed this interview, too.    Loved the bit about Louis Orr not knowing who Rome was and being more worried about beating Rutgers.

Interesting that we are atleast .500 or better against every team in the BEast since Buzz has been here except Louisville.  I knew we haven't done well against them, but I didn't realize we did so well against EVERY other team.

I used to find the Jim Rome show entertaining, now it just annoys the hell out of me.

The guy is a very good and respectful interviewer though, maybe we can get some Karma.

I played golf with Jim Everett in Hawaii about 10 years ago....I suspect Jim might disagree with your description of a respectful interviewer.   :D

Rome still gets crap for that, but he was young and trying to make a name for himself. I think Rome actually learned something from that strange episode. Maybe he is better for it.

I find his interviews entertaining. He relaxes the guest and gets some good insight out of them.

You don't have to be a Cardinal to be named Pope - or even a priest or a catholic for that matter. Buzz vs Benedict? Not even close IMHO.

If Buzz leaves MU to become the Pope, it's clearly Larry Williams fault.

I hope LW and Fr. Pilarz don't mess this up!

Yeah, I couldn't stand him out in LA when he first started his radio show. But he has gotten much better over the years.

That would be awesome. Rumor has it that the Vatican City Cardinals will lure either Pitino or Calipari to be their coach by offering the one thing each of them needs more than $$$.................. indulgences.

I love Rome... but he's an acquired taste... and he openly admits it on his show.

You have to listen on and off for a couple of weeks for it to finally "click". His entire show is satire and schtick. It's tough to follow unless you've listened a lot.

You have to know some of the characters and bits, and then it becomes more clear and entertaining.

Actually you DO have to be a male Catholic in good standing. You're right about the cardinal priest thing though.

And I love Rome's show.

Pretty sure, at minimum, you have to be Catholic and male.

I wonder why the Catholic church restricts half of the population and doesn't allow women to be part of the leadership. That's probably healthy.

Just telling the truth.  It was the worst golf outing of my life and he being a Purdue guy and I an IU guy, he let me have it in our 5 some.  He's a scratch golfer. We spent a long time talking about the Jim Rome episode...rather fascinating conversation.  So if I were to say something about the incident without the context, one of you would say something like "how do you know how he felt"?  To which then I would have said, because he told me in the 6 hours of golf we played (Jim Kelly played in front of us and I think Kosar or Marino...a lot of hacking going on which made for very long rounds).  Damned if I do and damned if I don't...I'd rather be honest and just tell it like it was, you're going to bash no matter what.

Reminds me of a post here a few years ago about a certain team and their AD, Fred Glass.  When I said I had heard from sources directly that that school and coach had a 5 year plan to get back on top....widely ridiculed for posting that.  Hmmm, how did that turn out?  I'm glad I put the full context in because if you don't around here, you are accused of making stuff up...which I clearly wasn't and ultimately was proven right these last few months.

Pretty sure everyone knows how Jim Everett felt about that Rome experience.  It's one of the most played sports journalism gone wrong clips out there.  Who would have "called you out" on that?  Victim card.  And way to squeeze in a couple more names plus a non sequitur IU/Crean rant at the end.  Bravo.

Rome was like 19 when that happened (OK not really, but he was just starting out)

He's acknowledged it was a D-Bag move, apologized (I believe), and moved on.

His show is pretty entertaining. I love it when he gets into it with his fans (clones)

Alienate half the population, watch your membership shrink.  Farily simple logic, not shocked the overlords in Rome haven't gotten it yet though.

They wouldn't do it because it's a dumb move.  Honestly, what does questioning a players toughness by calling him a girl's name accomplish?  I think the last time I pulled that move was 7th grade.
