With the "new" Big East seemingly going to sign with the new Fox Sports networks we're also losing ESPN coverage. This, of course, leads to no Marquette games on ESPN3/WatchESPN, right? So does anyone know if there will be any streaming options for the new network?

Been chatted about it before, basically unsure at the moment, but methinks SOME kind of online interface will be built.
For me, this would be the only bad news about joining a new conference - if there wasn't an online streaming option/replay option. I absolutely love having the ability to stream most of our games and conference games, plus watching replay if I can't get it live. From a person with no cable...

Totally depends on the deal. Big East games currently are on MSG, SNY, MASN but also on ESPN and CBS.
Big Ten games on the BTN, ESPN, and CBS. Really depends on the rights and how they are bundled up. Fox needs content for their new transitioned networks, so they'll want as much inventory as they can get.
Benny might even have to subscribe to television again to see his Warriors play. ;D
Chicos, do you think FOX would try to get the NCAA Tournament when that contract comes up?

Man those rights will take some scratch to buy, no doubt.

They tried this last time (two years ago), and that's why CBS partnered with Turner to bolster their bid which they ultimately won again. We were involved as well since we were the first ones to put multiple games on at one time...we did that deal with Mike Aresco at CBS.
Now that having 4 games on at once is the norm, you need the ability to deliver that to the fans which means multiple networks. FOX could do it because of their national networks (FX, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, FOX national), but with CBS having the incumbancy I would like their chances moving forward.
CBS doesn't want to lose the Masters, the NCAA tournament, SEC football and a few others things...that is the bread and butter.

Very likely....I have a meeting with them very soon and will ask the question.
ESPN3 has been blacking out more games this year, so I've found it to be less useful.

Here in N.C., I got to watch every non-national-TV game on ESPN3, and I'm hoping like hell that Fox will have something similar because I've gotten spoiled.
Yes, it's all about me, me, me!!!

Source today indicated that the plan is for Fox to sell rights to some games to ESPN and, perhaps, CBS.

I've gone back to antenna TV and netflix/apple tv. We really like it, except for no ESPN.

Not only that, I'd assume some games will end up on their regional networks.

I don't have cable either, and ESPN3 has been sporadic this year. Sometimes games were available, and sometimes they required a log-in from your cable company to watch games. Besides the TWC32 black-outs, ESPN3 was blocking games on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU as well.

It depends on your internet provider--if your internet is through a company that subscribes to ESPN3, then you can get it, regardless of whether you have cable or not. Usually when you try to stream a game, it will ask for which provider you have.

Anyone know how will this deal affect local ESPN 540? I think am 920 which now carries Jay Mohr-(who is great BTW) recently changed to Fox Sports.
540 currently carries everything that is MU and Buzz ( 2 1/2 hr pre-games, Buzz hour, games, post-games) and doesn't hate on the above mentioned. I think that would all change, right?
Does Homer still do the games being an employee of ESPN?

1. You "borrow" a login from a buddy who is a TW, Xfinity, or Brighthouse subscriber and watch everything on WatchESPN.com.
2. Place-shifting technology like Slingbox (though not sure if this even exists anymore)
3. Break into your neighbor's house while they're gone.

4. Go to a nearby Sports Bar, drink some IPA and slip the bar tender a $20 to put the Marquette game on the Big Screen. It works. I've done it.

I believe radio rights are negotiated separately. It is not a huge market for radio but just look at other sports on ESPN, they broadcast the radio coverage of a lot of NFL games but only have broadcast rights to MNF. Out here in DC ESPN affiliates do the Redskins and Ravens games and unfortunately on Monday mornings a local Redskins program takes place of Mike & Mike.
If FOX has an extensive enough radio property, not sure if they do, maybe they make a play for that as well, but I would expect little change in who carries radio broadcasts now if they do not.

That is pretty much standard procedures. If the game is on one of their national networks they are not going to let you see it online, they want you to watch the actual channel.
This type of problem probably won't go away even if Fox has online streaming. If the game is being televised on Fox Sports 1 or 2 it is likely to be blacked out from being able to be streamed.
Also, if we are the only college basketball property they get the vast majority of games would be on the TV channels. The only time I see MASN, SKy, ets.. getting games are on weekends or nights where more than one game is going on.

IF the game is on national tv, but your internet company is a subscriber to Watch Espn then you are able to use the watch espn app to view the game on Espn, Espn2 or EspnU. If your internet company isn't then you are out of luck.
Marquette should be one of the premier teams in the NEW Big East, therefore hopefully most of our conference games will be broadcast nation wide on foxsports1 or 2.
Another thing that will be important to some people is the tier of Speed Channel and Fuel Channel. These are the two current channels that I believe will be converted into the 2 new Fox Sports channels. They will need to be on a basic tier. Currently, Speed Channel is not. (on Dish and DirecTv)
As it is right now, nationally, domestically, most MU games are on easily accessible tv. There are always a handful that aren't. Surprisingly, one of the Georgetown games was one of those this year. One needed to have a higher tier to watch, or use internet stream or pay for ESPN Full Court.
The more games on easy access tv the better. And, a good, reliable internet stream is also essential too.
I also wish I could get more food quality internet streams Internationally as well when necessary.

I don't know if they would, maybe they would bump Fox Sports 1 down to basic cable, but we have had several games on ESPN U this season and in most areas ESPN requires a package above basic cable. I could easily see them keeping Fox Sports 2 as a channel you have to pay more to get.

It's their standard procedure now, and I understand why, but it wasn't in the past. They've really started cracking down this year with log-ins and blacking out more games than in previous years. The hassle-factor for ESPN3 is increasing, so I don't see it as a big advantage for being on ESPN vs. FOX anymore.

WatchESPN is only available to cable subscribers, and then, only if your subscription includes the channel (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) you want to watch. ESPN3.com is available to internet-only subscribers, but ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU cannot be watched live on ESPN3.
I hope fox comes up with something. I live overseas and pay $25/month and so far have gotten all the games (except CBS and the GB game) through ESPN. CBS was free and GB we all know about ($5 for that garbage).

I've never had to bribe the bartender, just ask. Maybe find a different bar with less Badger fans?
With Fox Sports taking over will the games be on a major tv channel like the NFL games (channels 2-8)? Or will it be on the same channel as speed, which as I recall was in the 100's.

Since I don't work for Fox I can only surmise, but I believe it will be in the 100's or whereever most of your sport channels are located since it is being launched, I believe, as a cable sports channel to compete directly against ESPN. The really low numbers are usually for the channels that you can get over the air.

The nicest thing for me is the replay, which has no blackouts. About 30% of games I can't catch live, and watchESPN has all of the games broadcast on replay for what seems like a long time. So even if I can't watch it because of blackout or I'm doing something else, I just wait until 30 minutes (or a full day) after the game and know I can watch it then. Plus I have iPad with AppleTV so it is as good as watching it on cable.
Is there a reason that colligate athletic conferences don't set up something similar to MLBTv or NHL Gamecenter? It wouldn't help (WI-based) Marquette fans watch MU games, but I would pay a price to be able to watch every other conference game on my computer.
I don't have cable either and don't have a problem going down to the bar to watch MU road games. I would be willing to pay $50-$80/season to watch every out of market Big East game though. As it is, I've been known to find 'alternative' streams of games. You'd think that some of my money would be better than none of my money...

The problem they have is most of the contracts for the big properties are signed right now for years, many by ESPN. That's why the timing of all this on Fox's part I find interesting.

I would imagine there would be Saturday doubleheaders on the National , over-the-air FOX station. Everything else will get regulated to FOX1(SPEED), FOX2(FUEL TV) and the regional FSNs.

Fox isn't stupid. What do you think they have planned? Is possible that some of those contracts have out clauses...so Fox could end up stealing a few plums from ESPN?
The trainwreck that NBC Sports Network has been will be a good example of what not to do for Fox.
