Title: Anyone Considerin' Mercedes CLA?

Kinda partial to German-made cars, especially if you get to take the broad for a test ride.

Old man car.  So unless you suffer from the gout and use flo-max, get a BMW.

CLA1 base is less horsepower and kinda like a one series BMW.
CLA2 will have a 2.0 liter with 211 horsepower, but around 50K.

CLA's will be a four door, no coupe.

Nicest Benz in that class is the E350 coupe, which is just a very nice ride with a base of around 57K.

For that pricing, go with the BMWs.  I have a new 535xi and it is just a driving beast.

I think I'll be buying a dozen or so for my fleet. Will fit right in with my Bentleys, my Ferraris and my rocket ships.

I was just trying to get amped up for my new fleet vehicle.  We just made the switch from Impalas to the Ford Fusion.

Must say, I am totally happy with my recent purchase - a 210 Ford Focus.

It cost about the same as 3 classes at Marquette.

This is a common perception regarding german automobiles.  If you can afford to drive an Audi/BMW/MB, you can afford to service it.

It's not just the $$ .. as it is the PITA and time it takes to drop a car, deal with the issues.   The Germans don't have the market cornered on premium vehicles.

You'd think....

I actually know plenty of people driving German autos who really probably can't afford it.

Lexus is the best luxury value out there, IMHO

If i had to choose the "Best Value" luxary car for the money, i'd choose a Saab.

I know it's not on par with the other autos we're discussing, however for the amount of fun, gas milage, and power behind the Saab Aero's and Arc's, i can't find a car that comes close.

It's a shame they went out of business, but i can't think of a car that is that much fun, fully loaded at about 30k.

They aren't luxury, and they are pieces of crap.  Ever since Ford bought them they totally ruined the brand.

Under no circumstances buy a Saab.

Ford?  Do you mean GM?

I've owned two of them, had great experiences with both.  Probably the safest vehicle there is out there.  I was doing 55mph, and i slammed into the back of a stopped cadillac with 4 older people in it.  None of the 3 people in my Saab were wearing seat belts and we all walked away without a scratch.  I highly suggest them if you don't have a 40k + budget.

Yes, GM.  My mistake.  If you read any reviews of Saabs their quality, reliability, and safety has significantly been reduced when GM took over.  There is a reason that Saab hasn't released anything since 2011, and it isn't because they are great cars.  They absolutely used to be, though.

I stand by my Beamer comment.  I would go Audi>Mercedes>Beamer if I were to go German... But I probably wouldn't.

I agree with your comment that Saab went downhill once they were bought out.  I remember in high school owning a 9-5 and i had a lot of fun in that car.  Not to sound snobby or unamerican, but i'd take pretty much any vehicle maker outside of the US when it comes to automobiles.

I think that used to be more true than it is today.  Personally, my wife and I both own Mazdas... which is owned by Ford, but they are both great vehicles.  I probably would not sell the car I own for 150% of what I paid for it.

I think they aim to compete more with Subaru as a cheaper version, and the now mostly underwater Mitsubishi motors.  FWIW I think the 2013 CX-5 (what my wife bought) is head and shoulders above the RAV-4 and CRV, and that isn't just a Mazda preference.

Fair enough...I'm not going to comment on your driving skills since I honestly have no idea.  But, if you truly "wouldn't have been able to live with" having someone be harmed in your accident, I'd suggest you require them to wear their seat belts.  It's all well and good if you want to take a "my life is in God's hands" view of the world, but your passengers' lives are in your hands.

Best car for the money out there is the Dodge Charger.  Thing is freaking awesome.

For less than the 50K (far less -- the stated price of the Mercedes)

You get full sized car, not a compact, AWD, 370 HP, heated and cooled front seats, heated steering wheel, huge touch screen, all the tech toys, blind spot monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, rain sensing wipers, the whole 9 yards.

Did I mention 370 HP?  If you want you can get it with more, or less whatever.  If you are more interested in mileage, the 3.6 gets you 300 HP and 31 MPG.  The 5.7 hemi works perfectly for me though.

Just a great car.
