Round and round they go where it will stop nobody knows......
Chill, Larry has a plan.
Along with Rutgers
son of a bitch.

Do you have any proof behind your assertion that LW is hellbent on turning us into SLU?
UConn to ACC?
Stay the course and hope bball only factions come in vogue. Not much else can be done.
The remaining BEast football schools have to be in full panic mode. I actually feel somewhat sorry for schools like Louisville.
I agree with the 'let's see where the dust settles' approach. But there does become a point when adding 'Southwest New Mexico State A&M' simply because they play football doesn't make sense for the basketball-only schools.
In many ways, the sooner the remaining football schools can find a new home, the sooner this can shake itself out.
Florida State to the Big XII?
It is time for us to be proactive and lead the way in forming the best BBall only conference possible. I will miss playing Louisville on a regular basis but we can always make them a home and home.

If only we could. There is zero benefit to aggressively pursuing basketball-only.
Sadly, though, this is probably the end of the Big East as we (relatively) know it. Though it's still on Syracuse and Pitt, who started this whole mess.

I don' think you need to necessarily be proactive about it. That's the last resort, no need to jump the gun, the bball only schools aren't going anywhere.
The Big Ten started it...the rest has all been reactions to those moves. The real question is, what is the next move?
I'm thinking out loud here - Can The Big East be proactive? Go after ACC teams?

If Maryland goes who's to say FSU won't follow on their way out? Destabilization can lead to something........or not.
Also this from NY Daily News. Seems more speculation than actual insight/sources but this would the absolute worst case-scenario.
St. John's, Georgetown possibly leaving Big East for ACC in conference realignment depending on Maryland, Rutgers moving to Big Ten

And another thought - Does the Pac-12 do anything? Don't they have a close relationship with the Big10? Weren't they trying to mirror each other with equal # of teams, etc.?

Their problem is geography. They weren't able to get OU and Texas, and they have the least attractive potential candidates by far. Who would they go after? BYU, Boise, Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico? Those PAC-12 schools are going have a hard pill to swallow to what they've said before.

Something like this may well be the next phase, where once they have football where they want it, conferences add teams that don't necessarily have football - as the Big East did when it added MU, etc. It will certainly mean the end of the Big East, but given MU's overall athletics program, if it goes this route, there will be a place for them in the ACC, Big10 (God help me), etc.

Not to the B1G...they wouldn't touch any of those four with someone else's 10-foot pole. A lot depends on who voted for the ACC $50M buyout. The schools that voted for it may be stuck there, but Maryland seems pretty confident they won't be paying it.

I didn't mean those schools would go to the Big 10, just moving in general. It seems like some other schools might be looking to get out of the ACC and then Big East schools would be looking to fill in those spots.
Sooner rather than later the basketball-only schools are going to be on their own. The whole college-FB-drives-the-bus system sucks.

I still think there is value of a basketball only schools. If a conference wanted to improve what they already have for bball and make it even deeper, why not go after a Marquette, Villanova, Georgetown, Xavier, Butler...?

Maybe. Either way, the BB only schools are going to be looking at a lot less cash.

I think this is exactly what is happening.
It may take some time, but conferences are going to continue to search for revenue. If they think basketball-only schools can provide some, they'll add them.
Obv this is all about football revenue. Remember, the big east will have access as one of the "group of five conferences" to the host/marquee bowls in the new playoff system, regardless of what Rutgers and Uconn do/are doing.
So basically there will still be a football wing of the big east bringing money and attention in for TV negotiations, sponsors, etc, with potential to bring in lots more if they make one of the big games, like Louisville probably will this year.
MU is wise to just stay along for the ride for now.
Now, if GTown and St Johns and Nova start getting added as a basketball only members to other conferences, then we need to start scrambling for a new home.
Mike Aresco's job just got that much harder. Shame, very talented and smart guy but he has not much to work with.
Big Ten now has 13 of 14 schools in the AAU....there's a pattern there. I don't see them going after any non-AAU school not named Notre Dame in the future. I know some here think that they will add basketball only schools potentially, but I don't see it and almost certainly not a school that doesn't have the AAU crediting behind it. Pretentious or not, that's how they roll.
UCONN to the ACC, but BC will have to capitulate. The fact BC has that much power that they can block a move is a mystery for the ages.
Maybe the ACC tries to put some basketball only schools in their league like G'Town (now that Maryland is gone) or Villanova, but I would be stunned if the Big Ten does this.
I sure hope we have a plan moving forward. It really is crazy how these super conferences are simly taking over. When we joined Great Midwest, now seems a lifetime ago, I thought we were in a great conference. Times are changing and hope we change with the times.
I just don't get why schools like UConn and Georgetown (and maybe even Lousiville and Rutgers) don't give up their dream of big time football. Nobody in the football BCS conferences (so I'm leaving the BEast out here) seem to want them. Might they come around to the idea that their football investment is likely to be a drain on the university rather than a boon? Why not give up football and focus on basketball? It won't have the same income, but it could certainly pay for the rest of the athletic department, add to the university's coffers and bring a brand name to the school. Hell, now I'm even convincing myself that MU was decades ahead of the curve way back when we dumped football.

Money. But Georgetown has given up on football by the way.

Again, the 100+ years of tradition in the B10 are important, but it's not the MOST important thing.
They had 10 schools in the conference for a LONG time. Didn't stop them from adding PSU. Didn't stop them from adding Neb. Things change. Conferences are evolving and making decisions we never thought possible. Get used to it.
People will talk about academics, tradition, and "fitting in" with the B10. All good. I get it.
But, when push comes to shove, the $ is the main driver. If it wasn't, they would never expanded in the first place.
Oh, and for the record, I'm not saying the B10 is going to run out and add a bunch of crappy schools, but I AM saying that the AAU thing is overblown. If the B10 sees a school that "fits" and can make them money, they will consider them. Might be another few years, but it will happen.
