I say...
Pg:JR, TJ Taylor, Derrick Wilson
Sg:vander/mayo, jones, ferguson
Sf:jamil, Juan
Pf:Steve Taylor, Juan
C:otule, Gardner, durley
Our offense will run through mayo and jamil Wilson. When gardners in he will be expected to be another scorer. I think Steve Taylor will be a stud.
I agree 100% I think Jamil does a little bit of what Jae did this last summer and work on his stroke from outside. By adding a consistent J to what he already has he will be one hell of a player. Todd is really close to being fully polished, when he is on he can score with the best of them and he plays great D. If he becomes consistent I think Vander better watch his back. Let me say this about Vander Blue. He came in thinking he deserved to be praised and over 2 years he has shown us essentially nothing. Todd came in with a chip on his shoulder and is playing like Buzz' players do. Vander needs to read this board and see that he needs to improve. He needs to play with that chip on his shoulder.
Think Mayo, Gardner, Otule andWilson will be studs. Hopefully PG will not hold the team back...
Mayo showed us tonight that he could probably play a little bit of point, he did a pretty good job out there. Junior really needs to work on alot, his stat line tonight was worse than the Louisville game...he was invisible in both halfs
From what I hear. TJ Taylor is a DJO clone. I'm enthused.

Don't see it. Gardner and Otule are injury prone and Mayo and Wilson are not consistent offensively. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm not seeing them as studs next year.
I really wish we had a Travis Diener or Novak.. No racism, but it seems many many teams have that token white boy either starting or coming off the bench that can light it up from downtown to add a spark.
Next year will be more of a grind it out style. Focus on defense. Mayo, Wilson and Gardner put up 40 a night, we get 20 elsewhere and win 20. Sweet 16 should be possible leading up to a strong 2014 season.
I predict Cadougan, Mayo, Blue, Wilson, Gardner.
Junior Cadougan has to become Senior Cadougan for us to be most successful. Mayo, Blue, Gardner - here's the challenge if they want to be a star and have a shot at the NBA: ask Wes and Jimmy what they did, dedicate themselves 100% to school and basketball, and there's no reason they can't get there. I think Jamil's already got the maturity and the work ethic down - if he can get that Jae Crowder motor to be the guy to want to make plays constantly for 40 minutes he will be great.

Did you see the jump Jae took? and Gardner has had one injury in two years that kept him out for less than a month....how is that injury prone? Consistency comes with practice. They'll get there.

We might, None of us have any clue how good Jake Thomas is after a year of working with the MU staff and playing with the guys in practice. He could do what Novak is doing for the Knicks right now for MU.
Totally forgot about him, nice!
Crowder led the team in rebounding last year with 6.8 per game and he finished averaging 11.8 points per game. None of the returning guys come close to those numbers. And nobody sniffs DJO's 15.8 ppg last season coming into this year.
We are due for a down year. I think we will really struggle to finish in the top half of the Big East next year, but we could be really god in two years.
Most obvious starting five since 2008-09:
Cadougan -- He's Buzz's PG
Mayo -- Our best scoring guard
Blue -- Our best rebounder
Wilson -- Earned it this year
Otule -- Best defensive post
Some will argue Gardner, but it's not gonna happen if CO's knees are good. DG may end up getting more minutes, but CO will start because he's our best (only) chance to win the tip. Buzz values possessions too highly to start DG over a healthy Otule.

i'm with you on this one...if we see development like we're used to seeing from Buzz coached teams i think they're middle of the pack in the BEAST, make the ncaa tourney, and return a hell of a team the following year. question to me is who gets minutes at the point next year outside of junior, and how good can duane wilson possibly be as a frosh. that's going to be a huge deal the following year.

We return a clear starting line up, plus Gardner. Assuming normal progression and something from TJ Taylor, I foresee a very balanced team and possibly a 40 minutes of hell team. 27-8, 14-4, sweet 16? Maybe not all of those, but we should come close.

You couldn't be more wrong. Neither Vander nor any of the other players need to read the vitriol on this board that some have for them. Vander needs to listen to Buzz and the rest of the assistant coaches, who I'm sure are telling him, and will keep telling him, what he needs to work on during the summer to get ready for next year.

Agree completely. MU will have a deeper bench as well. I think those that see significant minutes will be, in this order, TJ Taylor (1-3), Gardner (5), Steve Taylor (4, 5), Juan Anderson (3,4), DWilson (1) and Jamal Ferguson (2-4). JJ and Thomas will see spot duty. Durley will be redshirted (my opinion only).
Buzz will have a lot of options. We lose two studs, but the cupboard is far from bare.
I think the biggest key for next season is scoring and offensive flow. Mayo and Wilson both had the confidence to at least shoot the ball last night. Vander cannot and does not shoot the ball and neither does Cadougan. I trust there will be a leap in many players games for next year as it seems it occurs every year.
That being said our team will be as young as I can remember an MU team being since the three amigos freshman year. With it brings the possibility of some growing pains and a new identity. I am as excited as I have ever been for Marquette basketball in the future.
Is it possible for DG and CO to play together much like Merrit/Jackson? Body types are somewhat similar. But the supporting cast (mayo/blue/cadougan vs wade/diener/townsend/novak) might not make it possible. Tough to guard these two guys. Might slow the game down as well but tough to think we will play as fast as this year. Thoughts?
Starters - Cadougan, Mayo, Blue, Wilson, Otule.
First two off the bench - Gardner and J. Jones.
Next two off the bench - TJ Taylor and Steve Taylor.
D. Wilson also spelling Caddy when necessary.
That's 10 in the rotation early in the year with JA possibly working into the rotation as well. Not expecting many minutes early in the careers of Durley or Ferguson (much like JA this year and J. Jones his first two).

No. Merritt was a natural 4 and very athletic. Neither Otule or Gardner match either of those.

Agreed. Unless Gardner develops a consistent 15 to 18-footer, it would be hard to play them at the same time.
Yeah you're probably right. I guess Taylor/Wilson can take the spot at 4 and still give us size but also speed/athleticism.

I am going with Brew on the lineup and Norm with the expectations.
Junior: Too inconsistent. Offense was stagnant without him being on and can't rely upon which Junior will show up. The UL and Florida were the bad and Murray State was the good. Something has to "click" with him next year where he shows up each and every game.
Mayo: Played great the last two games, but remember he was in a two month slump where he could not hit a basket. Maybe if he is designated a starting role and a summer to get ready, his confidence will surge. He just has that look of a player.
Blue: Again, like Junior, he is too inconsistent. He played terrible last night, but yet one in every five games or so, he looks great. His strong point so far has been his rebounding. Its been two years of Vander bashing, I hope he can work on that outside shot and just finishing at the rim.
Wilson: Probably will develop into a great player, but can he step up and takeover the role of the team's leader. He played out of position for the year and now must adjust to being at the #4 spot.
Otule: Having a 6ft 11, 260 lbs. presence in the middle will help defensively and hopefully with offense rebounds, a sore point throughout the past season. Only issue is that he has been injury prone for his entire career and no one knows if that knee will cause problems.
Bench: Gardner needs to lose weight and go through pulmonary training. He does that and he will be dangerous coming off the bench.
D. Wilson can provide some backup minutes, but has no offensive skills whatsoever.
T.J. Taylor will be the unknown card here. Some have appointed him the new DJO, maybe he can assume the role Mayo had this year coming off the bench and providing 10 points a game.
S. Taylor, again a freshman and the unknown factor. Will he be like Juan Anderson and only play a few minutes a game.
Anderson needs to hit the weight room and Buzz appears to like his play.
J. Jones has done nothing in two years and don't expect that to change.
Ferguson, who knows.
J. Thomas I guess is a proven outside shooter, but so was J. Jones coming out of high school. His role should be interesting to watch, especially when MU gets zoned. Will he get minutes or will he sit on the bench. Only the staff knows that.
Durley ????????
MU has some players, but not the consistency required at this point to make up for the loss of DJO and Crowder. The hopeful maturing of Junior and Vander, along with Mayo getting confidence will be key elements.
The BE will see some serious changes next year and will continue in the next week with players declaring and even coaches maybe leaving, see Calhoun. Off the top of my head, some players graduating or probably leaving are:
Fab Melo (already)
Kris Joseph
Jardine
Henry Sims
Hollis Tompson
Jason Clark
Yancy Gates
Kevin Jones
Truck Bryant
Herb Pope
Theodore
Drummond
Oriahki
Lamb
Moe Harkless
Aston Gibbs
Nasir Robinson
Wayns
The playing field is constantly changing, just as MU's roster will be. It will be an interesting next few weeks as other team's roster's will be effected. It happens every year, but you never know who can step up as freshman and deliver. Whether you are a high school AA, see Brad Beal or an unknown like USF's PG Collins. Enjoy the ride.

We need shooters. Great shooters will help us win. We couldn't buy a basket last night. It would have been a game changer if we had an eligible Jake Thomas to come in and make a few threes.
We would all be better off keeping expectations for Jake low. If he turns out to be a playa, all the better.
Vander better learn how to finish. Those missed lay ups all season were frustrating. His banks off the glass seem hard. With so much natural talent I'm really puzzled why he struggles to get the ball in the basket.
Cadougan and Blue need to practice going to the hoop in fast break situations. They get blocked 75% of the time.

Thats why I cant wait for Duane Wilson to run point so he can just throw it down...Thats what Vander should do....Go up strong!!!
It will take me a long time to get Vander Blew's airballed layup out of my head.

There is nothing in the world that could make Gardner into an NBA player. He is a crafty college big man now, but he'd get eaten alive in the NBA. Too slow and unathletic.
MU will be returning players capable of performing 12 SOG performance this season, nine of which were by frosh and soph players.
