Title: Cincinnati game thread
Post by: real chili 83 on February 29, 2012, 05:55:43 PM
Anyone at the game able to post on how Gardner looks in the warmup?

Also, did he participate in the shoot around earlier today?

We are getting abused on the boards, but Gates has two fouls at least.

ESPN2 is perfect.  Getting to see Cincy's offensive rebounding just clear as day.  Wow, 6 off rebounds to zero.

MU had three turnovers in two minutes, but great 3 pointers.  Now Gates has two quick fouls which is a godsend.

ESPN3 said technical difficulties, then I realized it was on the Deuce here.  It might have technical difficulties as well though, because it hasn't shown us getting any rebounds.  Gates with two early fouls though.

Thank God Cincy is 1 for 9 from three point land.

Anderson was terrible, just terrible when in there.  Lost.  Buzz pulled him after blocked shot, defensive relapse and missed pass.

What has happened to Mayo, holy cow what an airball.

Just keep it close, but Gates is out also

Mayo is now 1-17 in his last 18 three pt. shot attempts. And the one he made was a bank off the glass. What the hell has happened to him?
Title: Re: Cincinnati game thread

15 points in 13 minutes played.  They are airballing, missing layups, driving and getting shots blocked.

Cincy is shooting wide open threes and missing.  MU lucky this isn't a 20 point lead.

Keep it close until half and Buzz will do his usual halftime rip.
Title: Re: Cincinnati game thread

Offense not looking good.  Hoping Buzz turns on the pressure defense soon - we looked pretty bad in the half court in Milwaukee too, and embarrassed them with the press.

Yeah, they're doing a good impersonation of us.  Not so great 3 shooting, attack the rim, get into the bonus.

I'd really like for one of our bench guys to step up, Mayo/Anderson/Jones.

We run into these games every so often, it seems. Just can't get any offense, and that kills our D. Luckily we've come back from more...but it's not been fun to watch.

Getting throttled now.  How many blocks can they get?  Don't they get the hint, stop driving.

BTW, Wilson and Crowder with two fouls is killing MU defensively.  Cincy driving and no defense by either because of fouls.

Title: Re: Cincinnati game thread
Post by: nyg on February 29, 2012, 06:55:17 PM
Cincy shoots 2 for 15 from three.
Gates sits 17 minutes of first half and.....

MU getting bombed.
11 turnovers
Rebounding is brutal
Nothing from bench, who looked absolutely terrible.

They were due for a bad game and this looks like it.

Will take alot to get back in this.

Cincy is a better team when Gates is off the floor. Jackson is prime example of why you take a flyer on a jumping jack.

unnatural carnal knowledge the bad game. Cincy is playing very, very well and deserve their lead. The Bearcats weren't all that bad in Milwaukee for most of the game and the midget seems to have the right key to making MU look like crap.

This deficit feels much deeper than any other one this season.

Cincinnati was TERRIBLE defensively in Milwaukee.  They have really done a much better job tonight.

And I know what you mean about the deep deficit.  It seems like even our makes have been tough.

Maybe a hang over from a very emotional win at WV.  We are lacking the defensive intensity that we have had in the past.  42 points is way too many to give up.  Also with MU so forcing our guys to foul is exposing our lack of depth.  I saw Wilson a couple times simply avoid contact and let his guy drive through just to avoid the 3rd foul.  For all of those who didn't feel DG return was that important his 5 fouls sure would have helped plus a big body inside.

Yes, everyone has played bad except maybe Vander who is playing balls to the wall. But MU has no bench, nothing, zilch.

What has happened to Todd Mayo?  In last nine games he is 1 for 19 from three point land and the only make was a heave bank shot.  That is pretty poor.

Time to start a new winning streak Saturday

So ... At least two games like this (ND, Cincy, Vandy?). Why? What makes this team so hot and cold? Against ND I thought it was clearly rebounding...it meant every missed shot hurt twice as much.

Anyway, it's been a great season. Going to try not to let this one get to me too much.

Biggest numbers to me: 34% shooting and 18 turnovers vs. 9 TO's forced.  No offensive rhythm and a lot of turnovers.  The turnovers hurt the defense and they took care of the ball fairly well-we can't be effective on either end if we need to be forced to rebound to get all our stops.

Jamil was bad. Junior was worse. Jae was no where to be found for long stretches. WAY too many unforced TOs. Too many quick shots, particularly from DJO. Lots of matador D. Got killed on the boards early. It was just one of those nights. Come back and get one on Saturday.

FWIW, it was a joke watching the Cincy fans give Gates a standing O late in the game. That guy should have never suited up in a Bearcat uniform after his role in the Xavier brawl.

We just had a thread on this board a couple months ago looking back at the brawl in the Marquette / South Carolina brawl of 1972 (???) in a nationally televised game.  No one was suspended.  No one was even kicked out of the game.

You honestly think that anyone should have been suspended for the rest of the season for that?  Complete overreaction.

If someone from MU's current team punched an opposing player in the face with a complete and total cheap shot in plain view of millions of people, I wouldn't want that player representing my university. You're welcome to disagree.
