Please no choking on national TV. :-\

Yes, one dribble to his left, then dribbles again to his right. No mention by the announcers?
Very good 1st half minutes for Jamail

Just turned the game on... is it just the past few minutes or have the announcers spent the whole game head-bobbing on ND? Transition basket for MU... "very uncommon for the Irish"
Some quality minutes by Melo. Playing good defense, trying to get involved on offense.
In a low scoring game, you have to make those layups.
2 on Harangody Cooley
Come on DJO - you're a senior so make senior decisions!
let's keep in close...and run them out of the gym in the 2nd half
Mayo's got to get in front of him to take that charge
Ugly stretch there. Buzz has to call a timeout to stop the run, not rely on media timeouts. Especially when we don't have the personnel on offense and aren't getting back on D.
Cooley goes out with 2 fouls...and ND goes on a run! WTF!?! Haven't scored since we missed all those layups after the steal! >:(
9-0 run. Just some terrible decision making by DJO and Junior.
Mayo has to make an open three soon.
Lets go boyzzzzz

DWIL with the made layup!
I much prefer this DJO who drives and kicks or shoots to the other guy who hangs around the perimeter too much.
lots of contact on shots around the rim and refs aren't calling fouls. would have been a big 3 by Jae at the half had it gone.
- No FT disparity: edge ND
- Missing bunnies: edge ND
- Scoring with Cooley out: edge ND
Only highlight was getting called WARRIORS before commercial break
The good: Only down by 4.
No fouls on Crowder
Stayed close with J. Wilson on bench
The bad: Missed "bunnies". Might haunt them
J. Jones taking as many shots as Crowder and DJO
Only one made three pointer
Didn't grab lead with Cooley out.
Boring, boring, boring ND offense.
At least it is only 4 and not double digits. Hopefully Crowder has his second half resurrection as usual and they can pull it out.

Were any of them bad shots? Maybe the early 3...I like the aggressive Jamail...he was far more of a positive than a negative in the 1st half. If only he had made a couple of those gimmes.
Seth was trying (I think) to say we were playing "undermanned" - instead said "underhanded". Love live TV.

That's not the point.
ND played a better half and are in a better position than we are.
We play an uptempo game that depends on causing and capitalizing TOs and using a FT disparity to press their players and bench.
So far it hasn't been that.

We are a 2nd half team and we're only down by 4.
The refs didn't call much in the 1st half...hard to get to the line when they won't call anything.
Their two most important players both have two fouls.
Hard to get too down when the above are the facts. We have a great chance to win this thing in a very difficult environment.
So far a play that might come back to haunt us is when we missed 3 bunnies to have a 6 point lead.
We miss and they go on 9-0 run
Prediction: Jae will have a big second half.

Happy to only be down 4 at half with team shooting 37% in 1st half and getting outrebounded 13-18.
positives:
DJO- excelling as usual
Vander played a nice half
Quality minutes by Jamail-wish he could have capitlized on some more of those bunnies but was very active on both ends and had a sweet flush
Only 3 turnovers
Only 5 personal fouls - 0 on Jae
Hit the glass better, convert some of those bunnies, Jae has his usual 2nd half and keep JWilson on the court and we'll get this W.

Wooooo
Open 3's by ND

this is not where you want to be. down big late in the second half against the burn offense. i hate nd.
Move on to the next one....
Can't wait to destroy these clowns at MSG.
Can we just trip connaughton or just just double team him. Give the ball to Jae in the post maybe although he has his head up his butt.
It sucks b/c it's ND, but they were due against us. Connaughton is just killing us. We're not losing this as much as they are taking it. Certainly some poor decision making and missed bunnies have helped, not to mention can't buy a three. Shake their hands and move on.
At the 5 min mark MU appears to be mailing it in. Not going after the ball, 3 ND players on the ground, etc. not handling it well. BTW when will Jamil start dunking the ball in lieu of the lay up? There have to be a half dozen occasions where a dunk was the right way to finish. I could never dunk. Therefore I cannot understand why those who can do not do so on EVERY possession.
DJO is a terrible off the ball defender.
And CBS cuts out to FL-Vandy.
Smh
We are mailing it in.
We have no answers for this arse whipping.
Well, CBS just switched the game to Vandy/Fl.

I think this game might be the proof that MU fans will blame the refs for any loss. Refs were absolutely fine today. Couple questionable calls either way.
The reason we lost this one was the over-aggressive defense and good ball movement by ND. That beast from the past couple of years re-emerged.

Only mistakes he made were missing some easy layups. He played probably the best game of his career so far.
He was in due to Jamil Wilson's 2 early fouls.
For all the people who think DJO is one of the best guards in the country, or even the conference, how has he done in the games we've struggled this year. He is a tremendous athlete with not much basketball sense He started hot today, then with us ahead he took a horrible three, made an unforced turnover, and did nothing afterwards. Forced shots, out of control, and no defensive awareness. This is compounded by the fact the person everyone thought was going to the pros after this year, Todd Mayo, has not hit an outside shot in a month. Also, check the turnover figures for Junior the last five or six games. With his inability to hardly make a layup, that is unacceptable. Maybe when we shoot layups before games, we should take that seriously!

sultan: read my post. I didn't intend to blame the refs one iota for the loss. in fact i indicated that ND outplayed us today. IMO one of the keys to winning today was to take advantage of the irish's short rotation. one way to do that is to get the irish starters in foul trouble. this particular crew chose to allow the teams to play a style that is more in line with traditional big east basketball which tends to be more physical especially in the paint. the refs called it fair both ways. point is that MU tends to drive to the rack more and look for contact (and yell out "and one"). ND style is more based on the abiiity to shoot 3's and jump shots.
your generalization that MU fans will blame refs for a loss may be true, but please don't quote my post as for your reasoning.

Self-described experts will come on later and call this a cliche but once again our lack of height was our undoing.
Well, at least classy of ND/Brey to just run out the shot clock (for a violation) at the end.
Time to move on...
Thank God thats over. We made that kid player of the week in the BE. Open for at least 10 threes?
At least the CBS announcer slipped and called us the Warriors at least twice. Highlight of the day by far.

Yes, until the last four games.
Todd has not made a shot in his last three games and had gone 0 for 9, in the fourth against UL he was 1 for 5. So that is 1 for 14 shooting in last four games. I thought he would do it today, but was 0 for 4. Man this team needs him bad.

Before anyone answers that, do you think a win today would have been a "good win"?
Our game plan didn't work as they packed three in the lane and we either lost the ball on the drive or the shot was blocked. Seemed like we didn't try to shoot over the zone very often to bring them out of it plus this was a "brain dead" game we played: throwing an inbounds pass to ND, losing all sorts of passes as we went off our feet without a plan. Looked for a change in strategy and saw none as game got away from us. Was relieved when they switched to the vanderbilt game out here.

Who cares. We beat USF and and Nova and UL. This would have been a great win because it would really put some pressure on Cuse with our schedule the next couple of weeks. Other than that, I can live with most road losses in the big east.
For the people who said I was tossing people under the bus and so on, I love Marquette as much as anyone and am at all the home games. I believe Mayo as a bright future, but he has to step it up now. With Junior's skill set, he has to handle the ball much better than he has. If his turnovers came on trying to get the ball into the post, fine, but a great majority of them are away from the basket and careless. A point guard can't do that. And I truly believe Marquette's up and down nature this year parallels DJO's up and down nature in games. I have never seen a player so hot and cold in the same game consistently. I have no problem with their efforts as they play exceedingly hard. The defense could have been better, but check our shooting percentages in games we have lost and how many times this year we have gone multiple minutes without a field goal. We missed many hardly contested point blank shots today. How do you overcome that?

We missed many hardly contested point blank shots today. How do you overcome that?
Your kinda pointing out what happens with most teams. If your best players don't play well, you will most likely loose. I think this game had more to do with ND shooting lights out, which they have in other games this season.
As for Mayo, you are saying a freshmen needs to step up now. Kinda asking for a little too much my friend. That is where most of my frustration is coming from with Blue. If there is one player that needed to step up their game, it is Blue. And although the prior game, I think Blue got a bunch of easy looks which resulted in inflated stats, today looked like he is finally starting to turn that corner.
Blue still commits way too early often. It seems like he decides to pass or shoot right when he starts to drive. There was one instance where I saw him change his mind and almost finish a challenging layup. It was the fast break. The defender committed to the pass last second and it looked like Blue wanted to pass the whole way but then went for the lay up and it was oh so close. A hair high on the glass. If Blue can pick up that part of his game by March, we are going to be a really tough team, assuming we are healthy.

Mmmm .. remove the OOC games, and Mayo has had a forgettable BE season.
The G'Town game was pretty solid for him, but that was a month ago
Okay the defense was atrocious. But it is very, very difficult to miss that many in close shots when you combine it with an atrocious 3 pt. % and still prevail. We are like that in free throws too, someone misses a couple and everyone seems to follow. Someone misses an in close shot and that starts a trend. I guess step it up may be too strong of a phrase in regards to Mayo, but if he doesn't start to hit some outside shots we are going to struggle as there isn't really anyone else to take the pressure off of DJO and Crowder to do so. Finally, I really like Junior and how he competes, but if you think a game like today's from him is going to cut it in the big games down the road, well, we'll see.

I have no problem with how Junior played today.

Our problem today was our two senior leaders...neither had a very good game...and our defense. Oh, and ND shot lights out from 3 in teh 2nd half.
Junior played a nice game. No hate deserved there.

Eesht...the first 30 minutes of the game, maybe. Don't forget Mayo had more than twice as many turnovers (6) as any other Marquette player in that one. As much as he helped us build the lead, he was just as responsible as anyone for letting it get away as well.
