Updated NBA mock draft still has him in the First-Round

Guess that means all is forgiven.
Thanks!
Yep... same as 5 days ago.

Won't really matter until May, and it's only one mock. I've seen others that don't have him drafted at all. I'm optimistic that he will be drafted, though I expect 2nd round. I know a lot of people compare his prospects to McNeal, but I think that the success of Wes is still having a ripple effect that makes MU guys look a bit better come draft day.
Do we have to go through this again? Just because a person doesn't think DJO can make it in the NBA, it doesn't mean the person is a hater.
Some college superstars, guys far more productive than DJO, couldn't hack it in the NBA.
Again: Glad he's on our team. He's a nice college player and has helped MU greatly for 3 years.

I am more interested in him being a leader, cutting down turnovers and raising shooting % over the next 60 days.

Dominic was slotted in the draft as well, when he was a frosh.
The funny thing about 2nd rounds: teams aren't necessarily looking for a steal as much as they are looking at deferred salaries (i.e., signing players and shelving them overseas to save on payroll).
Hence, the Euro has dominated the 2nd round.
Speaking of Euro, DJO would dominate in Europe.
And why isn't he here: http://nbadraft.net/2012mock_draft

First, I'm not saying DJO won't get drafted in the first round. He might. And I still don't think he'll be an NBA player.
Frank Williams from Illinois got drafted in the first round. So did Butch Lee. So did Adam Morrisson -- way up high. So did LaRue Martin - #2 overall. So did ... do I have to go on and on?
I didn't think Mo Acker or Marc Marotta would be NBA players, either. So I guess that means I am totally not a real Marquette fan, huh?

He's going to tear it up in Europe and then you'll be eating your words as he wins NBA Finals MVP. Can't believe you would hold this opinion. You can't possibly be a fan of Marquette if you don't think the fan favorite Rob Frozena isn't an NBA player. (Which, by the way, was one of my biggest pet peeves at Marquette basketball games...the student section got louder for Rob Frozena than they did for entire games...sad. If that conflcts with your concept of fair play so be it.
This thread has taken an entertaining turn. I feel DJO has a shot as a late 2nd round pick, but I don't see a team that is going to draft a 6'2 shooting guard (McNeal *cough*).

Nice.
I don't like the McNeal comparisons. He's much more of a complete offensive player and a much better shooter. I know jerel shot it well his senior year but his release was slow. DJO's game translates much better in the NBA. He'll struggle defending but if you can score they find a spot for you.....which is why Novak is still in the league.
I did not bother to read all the posts on the topic. I do not believe we have any DJO haters. Maybe some doubters. I certainly doubt that he will be a first round draft choice. although, I would love to have him drafted in the first round. I also would love to have him have less tournovers. That is not hate.
You are all racist if you think that former JUCO guard DJO will not be drafted in the first round.
The woooorst flaw he has is driving into the middle of the lane and and turning it over, he needs to leave that move to Mayo

Ignoring the 'not a fan comment'. I think he's correct that you haven't thought an MU player would get drafted since wade.
In BE play, DJO takes about 31% of MU's shots and leads the BE in points per 40. That is Kemba territory. However, his turnovers and offensive fouls are up on his dribble drives, limiting his minutes and effectiveness.
DJO has very freakish twisting athleticism and a good touch. He hasn't yet mastered his dribble drives nor is he a distributor, which at his height is what the NBA will look for. Between the whirling dervish style and the implications of such (charges, turnovers, forced shots), DJO may be a tweener for The League. But it is that vortex energy that just may get him a cup of coffee. Can't teach that as that ESPN video showed.

Actually that's not true. I thought Wes, Lazar, and JFB would be drafted in the second round - I was pleasantly surprised twice and disappointed once. In fact I said that Butler could have a nice long NBA career as a Mbah-a-Moute type player.
I also have said previously that I think Jamil will be drafted, and I still think that's the case.

Well because they don't watch the games, they see him fill the stat sheet as a sophomore vs. the bunnies. I'm not going to get back into that but I've laid out the numbers and it's stunning. Notice there hasn't been much talk about him since conference play started. The really good players, pro prospects, increase their production vs. tough competition. Vander might turn out to be a solid player but it seems extremely unlikely he'll even sniff the NBA....the only way I see it is if he develops into a PG by his senior year.

Man alive, I really hope you are just getting your jollies by so blatantly trolling. Just because someone thinks DJO's physical attributes and skill set might not translate to the NBA does not mean that same person can not think there are others on the team that have better physical attributes that may also gain the skill sets necessary to make it to the next level.

BURN!!!!
As I'm sure you know, I'm a huge Buzz supporter - the avatar is my homage to the greatest pre-NCAA tourney press conference of all time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQK_55CjPj8
At the 3:15 mark, he tells the TMJ4 reporter who hadn't covered MU all season up until they made the tournament "you're last." Guy laughs awkwardly, Buzz proceeds to ignore him as promised.
At the 7:45 mark, the TMJ4 reporter asks, "is everybody done now?" Buzz responds, "good, I'mma go ahead and eat my cookie." Reporter awkwardly laughs again, and Buzz goes, "which camera is yours?" then looks dead into the camera and chews his cookie with the most heinous face possible.
At the 9:55 mark, the TMJ reporter gets it yet again when he tries to weasel his way out of looking like a fool. He asked, "It seems like you guys always play well... because I watch all of the games on television even though I'm not here." Buzz interrupts him with "That's a hell of a job. You work for the media and you show up on the last media availability potentially, AND you watch the games on channel 32." The tool reporter can't even help but laugh because he knows he deserves it.
It was an incredible f*ck you to all the season-long doubters (such as yourself) that ripped the team mercilessly all year long. It was also one of the funniest things I've ever seen a college coach do. Just one of the many reasons I think he's the perfect coach for MU. Ton of personality.

DJO is the 19th leading scorer in Marquette history.
Of the 18 ranked ahead of him: 12 played either little or not at all in the NBA (McNeal, James, Lee, Diener, Wardle, Smith, Ellis, Key, Powell, Wolf, Eford, Hutchins); 2 are in the NBA now but getting little playing time (Hayward, Novak); 1 is an NBA starter making good money (Matthews); and 3 had nice NBA careers (Thompson, Meminger, Kojis).
Obviously, scoring lots of points at Marquette guarantees neither being drafted in the first round nor having an NBA career.
DJO has had a nice run at Marquette. He deserves credit for helping the Buzz Williams era really pick up steam following the departure of Matthews, McNeal and James.
If he simply keeps doing what he's been doing -- being a very good college basketball player but not a star -- it will continue to help the team but won't really impress NBA scouts due to his size and other limitations.
The good news for DJO (and Marquette fans) is that he still has a chance to write one hell of a final college chapter.
If he has a great finish to the regular season, if he leads us deep into the Big East tourney and, mostly, if he lights it up from 3-point range during a long NCAA tourney run, DJO would really open some scouts' eyes.
Although I have my doubts, I certainly am rooting for him to do just that.

Initially you came on the scene as a defender of all things Chicos, so much so that people thought you to be him. That put you at the other end of the spectrum from GOMU85 on all things Marquette - as outrageously negative as he is outrageously positive.
Lately you seem more balanced. Good for you.

I can't remember ever seeing that video before. Good stuff!
As for DJO...I love the guy. He has represented Marquette well and is a hell of a college basketball player. I certainly hope that he gets drafted (I still say mid to late 2nd round), but to label anyone a "Marquette hater" or challenge their fandom based on their opinions of his NBA chances is ridiculous and childish. And maybe not hearing your name called on draft night is a good thing. Wes wasn't drafted and it's worked out well for him in Utah and it paid off for him in Portland. Lazar and Jimmy were 1st round draft picks and can't get off the bench for their respective teams unless it's garbage time.
