Title: Villanova game thread
Post by: real chili 83 on January 01, 2012, 12:05:40 PM
BC looks packed from what I can see on TV.

We've scored 3 points so far....double our product from Vandy game :)

Go warriors!!!!!!  And happy New Year.

Didn't see many empty seats.  Looks like a good crowd, considering it's new years and the Packers are playing.  Thats all.

Ran Blue at point for a couple possessions.  Had a TO and a nice pass that should have been an assist.  Really like the energy.  Jamil and Gardner look like they have stepped it up a notch.

Along with his foul trouble, I wonder if Buzz is sending a message to Crowder?

I'm sure it is foul trouble...why the announcers can't seem to figure that out is beyond me.  Why put him in and get him a 3rd?

If Vander could just play in control...

He seems to go into the lane without an idea of what he's going to do.

It's Big East time.  This is going to happen.  Nova really extended their defense, created turnovers and bad shots.  MU couldn't capitalize.

7:00 minute mark was MU 32  VU 21.  Then Junior, Blue and Wilson started chucking and turning over.

MU had two baskets the final seven minutes to include the one at buzzer.  The only other fg was a gift by Gardner, the rest free throws.

First 13 minutes was pretty good, the last 7 was brutal.

MU had two very touch fouls called on Derrick Wilson and Crowder defending the drive.  Nova been bodying up a lot on MU - no such calls.  Can you cite one foul called on Nova as MU drove from perimeter to the paint....not in the act of shooting (like the 2 called on Wilson and Crowder)?

Obviously those at the game are seeing it similar as there have been a few "hey, you finally made a call for us" cheers...

Horrendous officiating?  No.  But, can it affect how you play/defend?  Yes.

If I remember correctly Junior was out for about 2-3 minutes and they closed it to 3, because we couldn't score.  Junior came back in and we played it even after that.

Yeah, I know.  MU fans (as many others) always feel that refs are not calling the game right.  <yawn>

Well, no matter what the excuses we will soon find out what this team is made of.  Against a young NOVA team at home.  With that 7 minute scoring drought and Crowder with no points, lets see.

Watch and see if Mayo gets more time than Vander.  Even both announcers implied the same.

I think the reffing has largely been fine.  I will admit though that I tend to wonder why we don't ever seem to get the home cooking from the refs like you see at other teams home games.

Yeah, but Davante is struggling with conditioning and it is showing on the defensive end on the floor.  Two fouls because he reached instead of moving his feet.  Solid, solid effort though.

No he's not...he's played really good D and been very active on both ends.  Davante's conditioning is far too scrutinized and criticized...he plays effective minutes, no matter how many..5, 10, 20, 25...

He continues to be a work in progress.  I like the effort from him today.  If he continues to improve, it will help take out some of the sting of CO being out.

Ners, that is false.  He picked up two fouls back-to-back because he reached and didn't move his feet.  It was poor defensive effort.

I'm not knocking his game because this is the best I have seen him, but he still is having trouble with conditioning.

EDIT: And the announcer just made the same observation.

I agree.  I am one of DG's biggest critics.  I hate when people only see the positives in his game.  He was absolutely horrendous against Vandy.  He is playing better today, but he is an offensive player, his defense leaves a lot to be desired.

Vander misses two freethrows (3 for 8 for game)  Buzz took him out.  VU would just foul him.

MU throws away inbounds play and Crowder fouls.

Then a VU three.  5 point game.

MU was up 12 at 2:20 mark.

What gives you that idea? They're young, 7-7, and already have some bad losses. If you consider how bad of a loss this game would have been for MU, there's no way you can call it a "great win." This was a game we had to win, and just barely did.

What gives you that idea? They're young, 7-7, and already have some bad losses. If you consider how bad of a loss this game would have been for MU, there's no way you can call it a "great win." This was a game we had to win, and just barely did.
Because Nova is a very good program and always recruits top level talent.  We came into the game 1-2 in our last 3.  MU needed the win and Nova is not a door mat.  A great win in my book.  Debbie Downer.

NOVA is not going to be good this year.  They lost Stokes, Fisher, Pena and others from last year and have no seniors.  It will be a long season for them by NOVA prior standards.

NERS, I don't think you can drive away Sultan like you did BMA725, but geez....     A win but not a pretty one.   It becomes more clear with every game how much we miss CO.   And free throw shooting is contagious, for better or worse.   Today it was contagious in a bad way.   Need better leadership out of our seniors.   Jae and DJO cannot commit those stupid fouls.

Not trying to drive Sultan away..at all...just pointing out a reality...as for BMA...that was bizarre..when he just came out of a 1-year hiding to crap on me...never 1 time did he make any mention in any thread or PM that he took exception to anything I posted...guess he was a Chico's disciple apparently..

Any win is a good win. Look around the country. Look at Wisconsin losing at home to Iowa, Pitt losing at home to Wagner, Kansas losing at K.C. to Davidson, UConn losing to Central Fla., etc., etc., etc. (Not to mention MU losing by 1,000 to Vandy.)

Marquette has a lot of improving to do and I'm not sure it'll happen. I'm enough of a realist to know this isn't a Final Four team, maybe not even a one-win-in-the-tourney team unless we get an awful lot fixed. But jeesh ... we can't even enjoy a win anymore because it wasn't "enough of a win"?

The group of Marquetters I watched the game with sweated it out till the final seconds but we ultimately were happy to have won. That's allowed, right?

A "great" win?  You have got to be kidding.

Given that we got absolutely dominated at home by an unranked team 3 days ago and we have road games at Georgetown and Syracuse this week, yes this was a great win.  Losing 5 of 6 afer starting 11-0 would start the bubble conversations.

Nova is not very good this year but they are a young and talented team.  I will never take them for granted as long as Jay Wright is there.

Oh...your hyper-aggressiveness (even for you) for one.  Also the need to start a thread where you are just about creaming your pants at the thought of one guy on our team beating up another...very very weird and distasteful.

Another thing to consider is that had MU lost....you're looking at outside of the Top-25 and a struggle to get back in with the tough upcoming schedule.  Keeping a ranking early is paramount because we all know that losses are coming.

How many times did you call him a "dick" today. Classless, ners, classless.

Do everyone, including yourself, a favor and stay away for awhile.  Usually that is necessary for some with a loss, but your posts have grown increasingly more infantile with this win.

Also doesn't help that Ners ripped on one of the best posters ever on this board (BMA725) because he is upset that poster cited Ners' antics as the reason he left (although I don't really agree with BMA's reasoning but it's his opinion and choice, not mine).

This "Game" thread has become very interesting to say the least.  Especially after a win, even though it was not a blowout.  I am looking forward to the Georgetown "Game" thread on Weds night, when MU goes up against Georgetown's front line of Sims, Porter and Thompson.

Sultan has thrown more than his share of barbs and names at me over the years...but really...Mac, were you not just involved in a spat in the last couple of weeks??  It happens..its a message board...with different opinions.  The double standard here is funny..some think it is hypersensitive to make issue over a guy not 5'ing a teammate back....but then they get their panties in a wad over a little debate/combat here??  Jeez.

FYI - I never ripped BMA 1 time here..and dude never said he ever had an issue with me.  After he unloaded on me..I returned the favor.  I battled Chicos, Willie Warrior, MU84, and Golden Avalanche over and over...all with good reason..this is where I earned the fanboy/MU Rose colored glasses nickname...and now I criticize an MU player...and now we have about 5 posters here mad at me? Catch 22.  Perhaps I will take a break from Scoop...as it seems insane how I'm damned if I do (criticize MU) and am damned if I don't criticize MU.

Spats are far too frequent to you, though, ners.  Not being hypocritical, being honest. I don't recall Sultan calling you a "dick".  That's what sets you apart from most of the rest.  Quick with the name calling.

But as for being hypocritical, do you really want to go into the "get their panties in a wad" debate?  Geez, you get yours in a wad more that ANYONE I have ever known.  ANYONE.
