Great News!!!! I was really hoping we'd get him. He seems very underrated. Welcome to MU Todd.
AWESOME!!! Welcome to the MU family Todd. Great choice. We are glad to have you!
I have yet to see this on any other site...at least so far....
Not to mention...this has got to be a double kick in the balls to WVU..after we beat them Wednesday night...to go 2-0 on the year against them...then yesterday they offer Mayo...a kid who has a WVU tattoo...and today he commits to MU.
OUCH for WVU, but +10000 to MU

Adam Finkelstein about to break Todd Mayo (OJ's younger bro) to Buzz Williams and the Marquette Golden Eagles. Check ESPN soon.
Pretty sweet! Looks like a good get for sure. Do we still have 1 schollie available for 2011 or is that it?
HOUSE. MONEY. Nice work, Buzz & Co.!

That being said, welcome to MU Todd. Kick some ass.
Ledo de-committed from Providence...
On another note: Should we be concerned that other fanbases might haze Todd Mayo due to his association with OJ Mayo...and some of the allegations around the OJ Mayo recruitment. I know Chicos had some concerns about this...is anyone else feeling squirmish??
Where is it? Definitely will at least need an arm sleeve if its visible
Did WVU even offer him? I thought I read that they moved off of him.

Might happen, but I don't think it should be a huge concern, if this kid has nothing to do with that situation (which I'm sure Buzz et al have looked into).
Fans will be fans.

Another solid recruiting class. It will be interesting to see where Mayo ends up in the final rankings. He has got to be a top 50 recruit based on what he has done this year with Notre Dame Prep.

By Adam Finkelstein, ESPN Recruiting
Todd Mayo had been claiming for months that he intended to make a commitment before or during the National Prep Championships, but when his Notre Dame Prep team fell in Wednesday's final to St. Thomas More, Mayo still hadn't mad up his mind.
On Friday, however, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound shooting guard finally made his decision and committed to Marquette.
"I've had a long year here at Notre Dame Prep, and while some schools are picking up interest now, Marquette has been loyal to me the entire time," Mayo said. "Their whole staff has seen me play and they all feel like I'm a great fit for the Marquette family."
An older article, but some good background on the young man...
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/feb/06/double-shot/
QuoteFour tattoos -- two on his left arm, two on his right -- offer some insight into his unique circumstances. One reads, "It's Not the Name, It's the Game," which is self-explanatory. Another shows the digits "304," the area code for his hometown of Huntington, W.Va. Another reads, "Love Is Pain," which he explains as a sort of philosophy: The effort he puts into honing his skills are a way of honoring the game he loves. And the fourth reads, "Through the Rain."
"It's, like, struggle," he said as he rubbed the ink with his fingertips.
(don't know about the WV one...)
QuoteHe had a 36-inch vertical leap and could run the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds

Nope
All that matters to me is that he plays hard, is productive, and has no issues off the court.
Screw what all fans may chant from the crowd.
Alright, Alright, Alright!

I'm sure Todd knows all about being hazed from watching his older brother. And I'm pretty sure he couldn't care less about what people (are going to) say, if anything at all.
Heck, I wouldn't put it past most fanbases we play (who would actually haze a kid for his older brother's actions) to not even make the association between the two. The Big East (and the University of Wi-Circus) isn't exactly a bunch of Jay-Bilas'-Hoops-Encyclopedia-types.

Fantastic news, I think Mayo is the ideal fit for Marquette. Saw the confirmation on his Twitter: "I'm going to Marquette, gonna be a Eagle next year." Glad he skipped the UCF and Baylor visits, this is a nice recruiting win for Buzz.
Could be some pretty competitive pick up games at the Al in a couple of summers.

Good question...but I'm going to have to argue that both Derrick Wilson and Juan Anderson are traditionals, as they are rumored to be very intelligent off the court - which should translate to on court intelligence. Additionally, both Derrick and Juan are rumored to be solidly fundamentally, though Juan has a little shake and bake in his game.
At the end of the day, let's just hope 1 of these 3 kids will be Gasser good.

He was runnerup MVP at the National Prep tourney - the MVP was a 98 and is rated the #1 player in the 2012 class. Players he outshone included a kid named Ledo (97 and #13 in 2012) and PJ Hairston (97 and 2011 North Carolina recruit). Probably 30+ high major players at the tournament. If Todd Mayo turns out to be an 89 (150-200) player for us I'll be surprised and disappointed.
Ricardo Ledo is Todd's teammate and just decommitted from Providence. Super talented but seems to have moved around a lot.

Agreed... who cares. Although, I do feel somewhat sympathetic to the WVU fans who are going to see their team get lit up the next four years by some kid with their logo on his arm.
Fantastic. Now let's find us another big man to push chris and DG to get even better.
I don't care at all what tattoos the guy has. I was just curious WHY he had one for West Virginia. It would be less forgivable if it was ND or WI. Simple solution: http://www.prevalstore.com/

I'm not going to lie...I find it weird how you frequently come to Chicos defense. He is a grown man after all, pretty sure he can fend for himself. Even more weird, that you defend a dude with an anti Buzz agenda...assuming you are an MU fan? Or are you too just a Tom Crean lackey and thus why you defend Chicos?
I think it's great he has a WV tattoo on his arm so long as he's wearing a MU uniform. Just a little salt in the recruiting wound. Only way to make it better is if he has a leprechaun on the other arm!
Getting off the tatto subject. This guy seems to have a game similiar to Buycks. That has its up sides and down sides.
Quote from: NotAnAlum on March 12, 2011, 08:50:50 AMGetting off the tatto subject. This guy seems to have a game similiar to Buycks. That has its up sides and down sides.
That's why I think we should use our last scholarship on a point guard. I think most of Buycks downsides come from the pressure of trying to play a position that doesn't suit his game. Mayo is described as a guy who thrives with the ball in his hands and is a natural scorer, but isn't necessarily a great distributor and that he tried the point but it didn't suit his game. With Cadougan for two more years, he should need to think about the point position. If Derrick Wilson can blossom alongside Mayo, it won't be a problem, but if Wilson doesn't pan out, we could really use another developing point guard to make sure that Mayo never has to worry about being a primary ball-handler and distributor.
I see if there is a transfer to pick up at the forward position, a banger with a little
history. You can never have 13 happy players, 12 is a better number. Competition
will be very good next year amongst the team, can only play so many.
2 point guards
3 2 guards
3 small forwards
2 power forwards
2 centers
The only way I would bring in another player is if he is better than what you got!

Two point guards in the same class doesn't make a ton of sense, especially when there's a bigger need at the four. I actually feel a little more comfortable with the Cadougan/Wilson combo, and perhaps Vander and even Singleton in a pinch, than Crowder/E. Williams at the four ... then Williams only the year after that. Or are you thinking that Jamil is an option at the four?
If the best player available is by far a point, then by all means take him. But don't try to load up on points in one class at the expense of position that are of equal, of not greater, need.
That said, I'd guess Buzz and staff have been tracking the progress of Derrick Wilson this season and have an idea by now whether he can be counted on next year. And that would likely play a part in where the final scholie goes, if it goes to anyone. Banking it might not be the worst option,
He is from Huntington....not Morgantown.
A little slow with this, but for those that have been holding their breath, the scholarship table has been updated.
