shooting foul on the last shot by rutgers
over the back
out of bounds off st johns not rutgers
st johns either traveled or out of bounds with 1.7 left
terrible officiating
.....but what a terrible inbounds play by rutgers--why throw into double coverage
-
Higgins brought his A game today. Wow that was terrible, feel bad for Rutgers. Happy we don't have to worry about Higgins or Burr tonight.
-
wow. just wow. Good bye higgins!
-
Horrible officiating. Incredible.
-
Home cookin for St. John's in the Garden. This is why they could very well make the finals of the tourney.
-
That was crazy. BE official's supervisor will have a field day. Why didn't anyone from Rutger's staff bring the last 1.7 second miss up, isn't that reviewable?
-
No shooting foul, offender caused the contact, defender was standing still and straight up. That was an unnecessary force.
It was an over the back.
It was out on Rutgers, it was not out on St. John's.
There was definitely a travel and he was out of bounds with BOTH feet with 1.7 seconds left.
Really embarrassing.
Agreed on the bad inbounds play by Rutgers. You have 5 seconds left. There wasn't 1 second left.
-
My God that was awful. One of those three officials better get disciplined. Brownlee travelled, threw the ball out of bounds, and stepped out of bounds all before time ran out and no call! Pathetic!
-
Oh man these guys are getting torched in the post-game show too! Gottlieb says Higgins and Burr should not ref another game this year - I'm loving this!
-

If so, we will never have to hear Digger say "those guys can flat out ref"! ;)
-
John Marinatto better get on the phone and try to find some replacement refs for the rest of the weekend. No way can he allow those three to do another game in this tournament. What a disgrace.
-

You should really watch that replay, it was a foul, he was not straight up. I also say that S.Johns should have gotten T'd up for throwing the ball into stands, especially with time left. Pathetic
-
careful--Burr probably reads this site and will give us bum calls. Oh, I forgot, Burr can't see, so he will not be reading this site.
-
LOL

Try doing a realtime google search on "Higgins Burr".
-
It seems to me that so many people know Burr and Higgins are just terrible but then you hear on tv how they're such good refs. Jokeee
-
From a few weeks back: Dickie V on @JimBurr: "Whether he's right or wrong he makes a call with authority."
Mostly he's wrong.
-

Throwing the ball into the stands isn't a technical. It's actually a smart play to waste time that most teams don't attempt. The clock can't stop until the ball hits the ground, right? Didn't Wisconsin do the same thing to beat Texas a few years ago in Austin?
But Lavin could have gotten a technical for being way out of the coaching box. He almost ran into the St. John's player who traveled and stepped out of bounds.
-
Again, isn't that a reviewable action? Maybe I am wrong. Why didn't Rutgers appeal?
-
Can college teams play games under protest like in baseball?

Can you appeal when the refs run out of the building immediately?
-
FYI: Final score was 65-63. Over/Under was 128.5. UH-GOOOOOO!! Donaghy territory.

Lots on Tim Higgins & Jim Burr. One is talking about a Mary Higgins clark book. :D
-

You bring them back out. I am not blaming the Rutgers staff, but someone must have noticed. Maybe I am making a big deal out of nothing, but I observed no one from Rutgers complaining to anyone. Probably didn't even know until well after. Shame.
-
Last year vs. ND on Senior Day, was it one of those two bumbling, incompetent DERP-sacks who couldn't even be bothered to get out of the way of the ball on an errant pass?!
Remember it should have been an ND turnover, except one of the officials, (pretty sure one of those two), it bounced right off him, and was still in play. FANTASTIC REFLEXES.
-
Maybe now Burr and Higgins retire. Please.
-
How about chucking the ball into the air with time on the clock? Technical foul. Rutgers gets their two free throws and we are overtime at least.
-
absolutely shameful and embarrassing.
Can we finally force these guys to stop?

NCAA response. OK, this answers some questions.

As long as it's a packaged deal with Hightower...

So no technical should have been called, and they couldn't have reviewed it since no call was made - meaning the whistle was not blown so they couldn't go to the monitor to put time back on the clock.
That doesn't mean Higgins and Burr shouldn't be fired. This was a travesty of biblical, Old Testament proportions.
-
That stuff is even called in pickup ball...
-
Swallowed whistle on the Rutgers drive.....ok, it happens. Missed push in the back on the missed FT that gave the ball back to SJU.....ok, it happens. Horn going off during FT...really? Rutgers player getting fouled trying to catch the baseball pass.....ok, it happens. All 3 refs missing the travel and stepping out of bounds with 1.7 seconds left....inexcusable. All combined.....pathetic. Rutgers, everybody who isn't a SJU fan feels your pain.
-
Wow that was ridiculous. Completely inexcusable. Horrible to the point of being fishy.
-
That was pretty damn ridiculous.
Hey grumpy old men....you get paid for all 40 minutes...might want to stick around and actually officiate those final game-deciding seconds.
-

Can't bring them out because they cannot overturn the call. They never called travelling and never called him for stepping out of bounds - both of which the played had done, neither of which is reviewable. They can only check to see if the ball landed out of bounds prior to time expiring.
Sadly, Higgins appears to be looking right at the play. He is as bad an official as they are. Time for him to leave the game.
-
On the positive side, the rest of the sporting world now knows how bad Burr and Higgins are.
-
You know its bad when everyone and their brother is complaining about the call, not just the losing team's fans! Man, the Vandy game does not look nearly as bad after watching the shananigans that took place at the end of this game!
-
Wow that was ridiculous. Completely inexcusable. Horrible to the point of being fishy.
Again, 65-63 final w/ 128.5 over/under. YUP, FISHY, REAL FISHY.
-
If Rutgers had been a bubble team, should the selection committee have taken account how badly Rutgers got hosed at the end of that game?
-
Remember how I say that blaming the refs for a loss is a losers lament? Well...I'm making an exception in this case.
-
wow that looked like as bad as some latin american soccer matches ive seen as far as refs go. Or even some italian serie a matches.
-
I'm still at work and just heard about this.
Wow Burr and Higgins have really outdone themselves here. What a complete and utter embarrassment.
Anybody know what the national media is saying about this? Granted the final result of this game may not necessarily have huge impact on the NCAA (or even how the BEast tourney ends) but it's just a terrible disservice to the game.
Who is saying what?

ESPN talked about it during HT of the USF/Cincy game. The general consensus was that they were good refs with lots of experience and simply made a mistake. They said that the refs were often overworked, but that the simple fact is you have to play to the final buzzer, and that includes the referees. Still, for the most part it felt that while the ESPN team did blame the refs for making the mistake, they were willing to let them off easy because of how tough a job it is.
-
back in the days of the Old West, Burr and Higgins would have been strung up. But, sadly, we are more refined these days.
-
As long as it's a packaged deal with Hightower...
wow, imagine hightower, burr and higgins together.
-
Remember how I say that blaming the refs for a loss is a losers lament? Well...I'm making an exception in this case.
Ha! I was wondering where you'd come down on the issue. It appears we have achieved a unanimous opinion - is this an MUScoop first??? Can anyone help a brother out?
-

WFAN was reporting that Burr was already off the court and way down the tunnel while there was still time on the clock.
-
I am surprised that anyone is surprised that these guys screwed up again.
-
Burr & Higgins, Higgins & Burr - the quinella of officiating ineptitude. Enjoy your time off at the donut shop.
