Title: 2010-11 schedule
Post by: dsjmana on May 05, 2010, 11:23:41 AM
Hi Warrior fans - Does anyone know what our 2010-11 non-conference schedule will look like?  Where can we find this information?

It won't come out for a while (August?) but some of the opponents are known.

home:
Wisconsin

@
USC

CBE in Kansas City: 2 of Duke, Gonzaga, KState

Also I think this is the year we are @ UWM (Someone correct me if I am wrong) and it is the start of the UWGB series, not sure if we are home or away

I heard somewhere we might be playing LSU at some point. Can't remember if it was for this year or next.

That is a tough Thanksgiving tourney.  Defending national champs with returning players and good players coming up, a home game for elite eight team k-state, and Gonzaga who needs to beat as many high majors out of conference as possible.

Not a tourney to pad the W column.

While we are on the topic of next years schedule; anyone know how the UWM tickets are going to be allotted or have any insight?  I'm guessing you will have to buy a 5 pack or something to get the MU ticket but I haven't heard anything.  Anyone know anything about it or how UWM usually does their tickets for a big game?

When Wisconsin came to the Cell, you had to buy a 5-game pack to get the Badgers ticket. Single game tickets didn't go on sale untill 48 hours before that game. So I'm guessing they will do the same thing.

Thanks for the heads up.  I would love to be at that game, not sure if it is really worth it.  Depends who else you can get for the 5 game pack i guess, and how much it goes for.

Educated guess on the Conference games

Home
UConn
Cincinnati
Seton Hall
West Virginia
St. John's
Syracuse

Away
Notre Dame
Louisville
Pitt
Georgetown
USF

Unknown
DePaul
Villanova
Providence

You figure each of those games will either be the reverse of what we had this year, or as part of a home-and-home.

I hope MU doesn't play Nova and DePaul twice again this year. It's been two years in a row. MU should be playing ND twice a year. UC should be playing L'ville twice a year.
Title: Re: 2010-11 schedule
Post by: brewcity77 on May 10, 2010, 09:06:13 AM
I wouldn't mind DePaul twice, but definitely don't want Nova twice again. ND makes much more sense if they're working from a rivalry perspective. Notre Dame played Cincinnati and UConn twice. What's their connection to either of those teams? Let UConn play Nova, or Pitt, which makes sense. Either way, the games that are chosen for multiple opponents seem to have no real rhyme or reason.

We have played DePaul and Villanova twice two years in a row, so I am pretty sure we are done with them. We have played Pittsburg, Providence, Georgetown and Notre Dame twice. I think we played Seton Hall twice also. I would expect a repeat of one of those and I am thinking Notre Dame. The other two I will predict are Cincinnati and Syracuse.

For all we know K-State may be in the Big East by the CBE Classic (however unlikely it may be).  You would think that Kansas City wants a K-State v. Duke championship, so we would play Duke first.

Besides the conference rumors, I am interested to see Butler guard Singler if we do match up with them.  Butler could make an early season splash with a strong head to head showing against Singler.

SEC BIG EAST  Challenge
Not sure if I have facts perfect here, but...
Why not do it like B10/ACC and have home games for 6 BE teams vs SEC and 6 more BE visiting SEC sites, rotating among all each year--
instead of four teams going to one of two challenge tourney sites (this year MSG, and Orlando)
Wouldnt giving member schools an extra home, non conf game be of better benefit?
(I am ready to apologize if I have this all wrong--lol)

MU must have filled it's Non Conference schedule now as they are no longer looking for a game on the basketball Travelers website. It's also interesting to note, my suggested opponent with a date that matched(South Alabama), is no longer looking for a buy game either.

(from GoMarquette.com)
Prairie View A&M

All-time series record: Marquette leads 4-0
Last Meeting: Dec. 6, 1996 (Marquette 104-49)
2009-10 overall record: 16-14
2009-10 conference record: 11-7
Conference Finish: T-4th (Southwestern Athletic Conference)
Head Coach: Byron Rimm II (Cal State-Los Angeles, 1999)
Leading returning scorer: Michael Griffin, Jr., 5-8, G (9.2 points per game)

Head coach Byron Rimm is entering his fifth season at Prairie View A&M and holds a record of 48-74 during his career with the Panthers. PVAMU loses leading scorer Darnell Hugee (15.0 ppg) and rebounder Dorian McDaniel (6.0 ppg) but returns junior starters Michael Griffin and Tim Meadows.

Pomeroy has them at 314.

Tim Meadows might be a factor:

Bucknell is Sunday, Nov.14

Green Bay is Nov. 16 or 17

In Kansas City 11/22 and 11/23 Duke, Kansas State, Gonzaga

We'll find out tomorrow, look for MU to have another home game Nov. 19 or 20. That would make 6 games in a 12 days.

Great weekend dates so far.  Now, if we can get some decent weekend games in the Big East schedule this year, unlike last year, it will be a really fun season.  And, we could top last years attendance figures.  The lack of weekend games last year, especially during the Big East season was really disappointing.

That being said it would be at 10:30 AM at the Bradley Center :o :o yes I said it 10:30 AM because the Gator Bowl is at 12:30pm on ESPN2 and the Capital One Bowl is at 12PM on ESPN. ESPNU at 11AM has the new Dallas Football Classic.

ABC doesn't do college basketball anymore other than the semi's and finals of the SEC toury. Plus, ABC has the Outback Bowl at noon.

CBS, starting this season has no bowl game on New Year's Day. Last season the day after Christmas on Dec.26, CBS had the WVU at Seton Hall which was the only D-1 game that day. So... Brewtown Andy I think you have something hear with CBS.

It's one of two things...
CBS at noon or 12:30 or ESPN2 at 10:30
It could be versus a big time school like UCONN, WVU or Syracuse

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere else, so apologies if it's already been posted somewhere. Anyway, the Big East announced the repeat opponents for next season. The three teams Marquette will be playing twice are Notre Dame, Connecticut, and Seton Hall. Personally glad to see the Irish twice on the schedule, and Seton Hall for personal reasons (ex-girlfriend is a SHU fan). As far as UConn, I just hope we play them early before their stock drops like a rock. Here's the link:

If the Big East site is correct, good thing the Seton Hall game is at night. I can't see charging top dollar for that game on a morning or early afternoon.

Plus, what is with all of these 8:00 pm home games during the week. We don't do 7:00 pm anymore?

I would say you are correct. The only problem I have is that the Big East Network games are only on in teams home markets during the week.

Marquette will do a bit better in attendance having a game at 7pm than 8pm. Alot of folks who drive from Waukesha might not go to that 8PM game. People have to wake-up early in the morning for work. Time they will get home will be at 11pm. They will say, I will stay home and watch it on TV.

Time change

Marquette @ UWM is now a 8PM game

Anyone who is going might want to get to the game early, as the Bucks play at 8pm at the Bradley Center. You could have 28,000 people in downtown Milwaukee for basketball on that night.
Title: Re: 2010-11 schedule
Post by: dsfire on October 20, 2010, 10:12:39 AM
I suspect the Cell will be quite full, but I'm guessing the Bucks won't sell out the Saturday after Thanksgiving against Charlotte.  Which isn't to say you won't have to get downtown early with only 25,000 in attendance.

Side note, I noticed gomarquette.com has the Georgetown game labelled "Jesuit Basketball Spotlight."  That was new to me, so I looked it up: apparently it existed last year and they even named Lazar as one of their All-Jesuit men's players (http://www.ajcunet.edu/jesuitbasketball).  Who knew?
