That guy makes my skin crawl. He should be ashamed to show his face at an event like this. He is in the same class as Aldrich Ames and Benedict Arnold. Clearly, the Tanned One has absolutely no sense of shame...

Lots of pics to go through!

This one was the best:

So why no vitriol for Kevin O'Neill?  He only gave us 5 years, bailed on us while wearing a Tennessee Sweatshirt (not kidding you), only got us to two NCAAs, was an embarrassment to the university in public yet it's always attacking Crean (who took us farther than any coach in MU history not named Al McGuire and gave us 9 years, multiple pros, perhaps our best player ever, etc, etc).

I love the double standards.

As I said last month, he was in a no win situation.  He shows up, he's a jerk.  He doesn't show up, he's a kitten.  He does a video instead of being their in person, he's a dick.  Those would be the tags he would receive.

He showed up, he was the head coach of the only Final Four team at MU without some guy named Al coaching it.  Looking at those players that took the podium, what a wonderful team and wonderful memories.  I'm sorry some of you are upset with who guided them to that accomplishment, maybe folks can graffiti his HOF plaque or something.   8-)

I'm thinking KO was a prick (not as affable as TC) plus he never vomited "we're a family" as much as TC did.

I think TC made us believe in him, the players and the program. KO didn't. That's why I think there's a little more vitriol toward TC.

Kevin was an pretty boy who would tell you he's an pretty boy.  Tom was an pretty boy who wanted you to believe he was on the canoe with Fr. Marquette.

At the end of the day, people don't like being lied to.

(sorry about my langauge but does pretty boy do it justice?...can I quote Simmons, Bassbowl?)

Agree completely.

By the way, how do you think KO feels about his MU years now that quite a bit of time has passed.

TC gave us 9 years, that's more than any other "family" member as a coach as given MU basketball in three decades.  If you heard Travis and Dwyane last night, they kept harping back on the family theme, the togetherness theme.....TC made those guys believe it and it got them to the Final Four.

I guess I just don't get how all this works.  I think what you're saying (if I'm wrong, correct me please) is that since KO was a dick since day one and had no problem saying he was a dick, had no problem crapping on the university every chance he got, no problem acting like a complete dick in public....well that was ok because he said he was a dick.

For TC, because he was there for 9 years and kept saying things like we are family, we're in this together, Marquette is a great place and I can't see leaving here....well we hate him because he made us all believe he would be here forever?

I kind of get it but I guess I was just so shocked TC was here beyond 5 years to begin with that it didn't surprise me that he left, especially for one of the 5 greatest programs of all time.

I'll take his dickish nine years compared to KO's dickish five years every day of the week.   ;)

I can't see leaving here, I love MU, we are family, give me more money while I look for other opportunities.
If you know who someone is (KO) when he confirms that and leaves which I think everyone expected him to you don't get the violent emotions as you do when someone pretends and gets more and more from the University even when not performing in the NCAAs and then leaves like a dick.

He was a phony from day one. So, leaving like a dick, when he had the opportunity, was very much in character.

Come on 4Ever, you are the one thats acting like a dick.  You may not like TC; but, so what.  As Chicos points out, TC gave MU 9 very good years and played by the rules.  Unfortunate that his departure went down the way it did.  That he rubs you the wrong way is irrelevant to most of us.

Dateline MU Scoop 2053:  That Crean was great.  No, he was the Devil.  No, he made me feel like family.  No, he was only a manipulator, then he left to evil IU.  No he brought us 9 great years.  No, he had a bad tan.  No, he coached us heroically to a Final Four.  No, Wade carried us, and Crean, that Snidely Whiplash, dragged along on the shoe strings of three future NBA players.  No, Joanie was hot.  No, she married Satan, hence the bad tan.  No, he drank Diet Pepsi.  No, he switched to Diet Coke.

I loved MU in the Final Four.  I loved the atmosphere when the Warriors were in the Sweet 16.  I loved beating Kentucky both years.  O'Neil and Crean left.  Buzz is our coach.  Can we just move on already?  Or must the Somalian pirates hijack another thread?

In some ways, I think he wishes he never left.  He obviously has grown up a lot in the last 10 years, but when he was at MU, UT and NW his life was way too wild, some might say out of control.  I think even KO has said that upon reflection.

No doubt KO regrets the decision to leave to some extent. It is easy to look back and have regrets but MU should ZERO for hiring KO. His departure was in a way ugly and fans had a right to be pissed at him.

In my opinion I think the way Majerus left was worst that TC or KO. He hung the school out to dry and we paid for that more than the aftermath of KO or TC departures.

I totally agree with redbird. The guy gave his all to the university and to his players. Seriously, he helped get the AL money raised. I am sure he was out there trying to get everyone he knew with money to donate to get that building funded. I remember reading about him donating a large sum of money towards the soccer program or something, can't recall exactly what it was. I agree he made some mistakes on recruits but look how the basketball program was when he first got here and look at it now. When he first got here look at how hard it had to be bringing in top recruits and then showing them the practice facility (Old Gym) and weight room and that. Every year he seemed to get a little bit better players and finally he got the guys that made up the final four team. He also brought in the 3 amigos and although they didn't do much in the tournament they all had great regular seasons and pretty good college careers.(broke some MU records and got close to others) Just about every year his name came up when a big time college needed a coach and he stayed around. I do agree it sucked how he did end up leaving. He really screwed that up. Not letting his own players know is crazy.  I'm sure he realizes that but to hard headed to apologize for it. I think people should just move on now and not compare coach Buzz to him at all. They coach in two totally different ways, have very different game plans. Also need to stop all the name calling and talking about the guys' skin tone. That stuff is sickening to read over and over and over again. That's just my opinion though.

But that d-bag couldn't even do that without calling a press conference to announce how awesome he is.  He never did anything that wasn't calculated to feed his own ego.

I have absolutely no personal knowledge of whether or not he gave the money, and I'm not wililng to assume anything one way or the other.  Does your use of a question mark at the end of your sentence mean that you don't know either?  Does anyone on hear know for sure one way or another?  Lots of projects fall behind schedule or don't get done at all.  Unless someone knows something concrete, I'm not willing to speculate that Crean stiffed MU and that is the reason that the project wasn't completed on time.

Crean's money was peanuts compared to the total cost.  If he failed to make good on his donation, it would in no way have stalled or stopped it.  Klein committed the big money.  I have no idea, however, where the project is at.

I never meant for Crean to be a scapegoat for why it wasn't done on time and still isn't done (to my knowledge).  I did a little research. I think he did pony up his promised $$ (to the tune of 100K), so who knows.  I guess it isn't surprising that a soccer project wasn't a priority, especially with the economy as poor as it is.  They had an initial donation of $1 million, and needed approximately 5 million total.  Hope it's constructed eventually!

There wasn't a presser or a Wade name-dropping concerning Crean paying up. So, assume it didn't happen. Maybe he's negotiating for IU to pay it as part of his buyout. Don't hold your breath on actually seeing the Benjamins.
