Not sure what happened to our auto GoMarquette feed - maybe they took them off the rss to make us check their site. Well, nonetheless their marketing ploy failed for me - so I completely forgot about it until today - when I checked their site. Here's the schedule thus far - North Florida was added today (#335 2009 Pomeroy - another bottom 10 opponent...):

Friday, Nov. 13 | Centenary | 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 17 | Maryland-Eastern Shore | TBA
Saturday, Nov. 21 | Grambling | TBA
Tuesday, Nov. 24 | South Dakota | 7 p.m.

well, we could start out 7-1 and have an RPI of 300.

funny, but true. Not really a marquee non-conference home game on the schedule.
Thank God for the Old Spice Classic. Otherwise this Non-Conference Schedule really stinks. I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

NICE
I'm ok with the schedule. With all the new guys it's good to get some wins. The Old Spice Classic and Big East play will help the RPI enough.
I don't mind all the cupcakes early while the new guys get their feet wet. And, yes, the Big East schedule will put our SOS right around the 25-30 mark by the time March arrives. Next year I wouldn't mind seeing Xavier, Dayton and even St. Louis replacing North Florida, Presbyterian and South Dakota. Even Fordham would be an improvement.

Alll 3 is a pipe dream. Deals with all 3 would require return games.
I hope they find a way to strike a deal with a top tier BCS team.
How about upper Tier Low Major teams or bottom tier Mid Majors. I'm sure a bunch of them Have RPI's in the high 100's and low 200's. This year it feels like we get half the teams between 300-325?
i think the scedule is absoltely outstanding and shows put into it by Buzz. We could play abunch of 100-200 rpi type teams but early on we might struggle against them which would mean we have to play with a tighter bench. Playing a bunch of very bad team will allow us to go 12 deep often and still avoid an upset. Throw in NCSU and UW-Madison and the old spice classic along witht he BE and out SOS will be more than adequate. This schedule reflects what Syracuse, Georgetown and othe rBE schools have done for the last 30 years, worked pretty well for them.
I will agree with Mr. Hayward, but also say that as this group gets more experience...next year and the year after...I'd expect a couple tougher games in there.
"absoltely outstanding" (sic)??? Oh, please.
201-St. Bonnies
326-N. Florida
215-Pres College
NEWD1-Seattle
293-Centenary
338-UM-E Shore
340-Gramb
NEWD1-SDakota
111-NC State
134-UWM
45-UW Madison
I mean, come on. 4 of those teams are literally in the bottom 50 teams out of 343. 2 don't even have RPI rankings because they were D3 recently, so don't show up on RealTimeRPI.
I mean, there are cupcakes, and SUPER cupcakes.
We'll have done really well next year to be on the bubble. Playing 6 SUPER cupcakes, versus 6 plain cupcakes could make a difference.
MAKE NOTE. I am not complaining this year. We always play cupcakes. I'd be curious to see how many bottom 50 teams we've played each year in the past. I really don't know the answer there. 6 seems like a lot.

D2* recently
I don't think St. Bonaventure has been confirmed either (actually, http://thebonablog.wordpress.com/2009/07/18/sheduling-2009-10-bonnies-vs-marquette-off/ suggests it was in the works but is now off).
I honestly don't think these games will be make-or-break for determining where we end up in the post-season. Thankfully, this is a message board so when Penn State beats us out for the last at-large by the slimmest margin, my post can be drudged up and thrown in my face.
Presbyterian announced as final non-conf opponent. I think that leaves us with an extra game available but I'd have to double check the numbers.

Schedule is a laugher. no upside for a team to play high school opponents.
Is this the easiest and or worst schedule (first 10 games) in the program's history?
if the tickets had been getting cheaper rather than the reverse, then the 'puppy dogs' pre-conference wouldn't bother me so much. If they feel the product demands a higher price, then they should feel an obligation to provide a better contest. They being the whole MU men's bball administration.

Wouldn't that depend on who they play in the Old Spice Classic?
As there are three guaranteed games in the tourney, would this be an ideal situation for MU (to face the highest possible RPI and best opponents)?
Baylor > Michigan > Xavier?
Last year's final RPI - Notable Non Conf opponents in 09-10Alabama 114 - Purdue, Kansas State
Baylor 43 - Arizona State, Washington State, Arkansas, South Carolina
Creighton 46 - Dayton, Nebraska, George Mason,
FSU 60 - Ohio State, Florida, Auburn
Iona 224 -???
Michigan 172 - BC, Utah, Kansas, UConn
Xavier 9 - LSU, Kansas St., Wake
You might have the wrong year - Michigan was a top 50 team last year and made the tourney. I think they're supposed to be pretty decent next year with all of their important players back.
All the rest of the RPIs are actually pretty similar, except FSU should be higher than that I guess.

All of those teams are going to be pretty talented, other than Iona. We should be tested in all 3 games.

Your ranking was end of the year that ended in 2008. Kenpom didn't do the RPI last year...

Bama - 108
Baylor - 56
Creighton - 40

i think kevin o'neal's second year he started calling teams to schedule games starting from the worst rpi and worked his way up. It was pretty bad, but helped mac damon and logterman and tony miller in the long run i guess.

I agree we need easy games in the beginning. The team will have a rough time this year against good competition. However, I think we will only have 10 players for the non-conference schedule. I have my doubts about Fulce and Mbao. We will finish non-conference with 3 to 5 losses. 8-5 to 10-3.
What happened to Seattle?
I thought they were being scheduled for this upcoming season.
