Title: Free Speech at MUScoop

missed the context.

criticism isn't allowed in your world apparently.

What context was missing?  The entire post, now deleted by the way, was there for all to witness its contextual glory.  I did say that to criticize MU's performance in the manner in which 4ever and Knights have done means they either are not MU fans for the biggest negative nancies that I have ever seen. What about that statement is incorrect?  It's either a true fact - they are not MU fans, or imo they are the biggest negative nancies that I have ever seen, which is undoubtedly true as it is my opinion.

By the way, whatever happened to this board being the one for free speech?  Posts are being deleted at a rate that would make even Dodds blush.  Apparently, this board is not the shining light of free speech it purports to be.  It's pretty hypocritical if you ask me.

One of the rules that we occasionally have to enforce are personal attacks on other posters.  If you want your "free speech" so that you can call other posters nancies rather than respond to the topic at hand, then go create another sand box.

Well, I was under the impression that it was the policy of this board to not censor.  In fact, another board has been blasted as being inferior for having the audacity to remove posts deemed to be inflammatory.  For the record, I did not call them nancies.  I said they were the biggest negative nancies I had ever seen if they were in fact MU fans.  Big difference in the context, imo.  Would you remove a post where I called someone a nervous nellie? For all that I have seen said about Murf and others on this board, this was weak in my opinion. Of course I respect the ability of the mods to remove posts as they see fit, but when you purport to be above that, it is another story altogether.  Considering some of the things 4ever has said, I doubt that he was too offended by my post.   ::)

If you want to question another poster fine.  If you think we excessively "censor" -- fine (however, I don't think you'd find that many agree with you).

However, bickering between two people is not something most come to this board to read.  It's a fine line...if we've seen too many personal attacks in a short time frame, we'll clean it up somehow.  Sometimes we'll warn people, sometimes we'll ban them without warning, sometimes we'll just delete posts to get a thread back on-topic.  Many times, the reaction depends on the mod that has to do the "cleaning", and how bad his day has been.

It's not a perfect science, but I'd challenge you to do it better.  Mostly we rely on self moderation - and 99% of members here do a great job with that.

In another sign of excessive moderating (lol), I split these posts off from the original thread.

+100

And just for the record .. we can go weeks without deleting a single post, because people here are pretty decent.  Occasionally, one thread gets out of control, especially if one of the mods doesn't see it for a couple hours.

Feel free to say what you want to say here - just say it respectfully and without flaming anyone.

We're really not interested in spending time moderating.  Our time is limited just like yours and we'd prefer to spend it contributing rather than policing.  On the other hand, we're not going to allow this site to degenerate into a no man's land either.  It is what it is.  If you have a beef with any of that or want to offer constructive criticism about the approach feel free to converse with me or any of the other mods (rocky_warrior, mu_hilltopper, or SoCalwarrior) in PM's.  Fair?

Things I enjoy being allowed to do at MUScoop

link to Cracked Sidewalks - or, I would enjoy doing it if there wasn't an automatic scraper that ported CS posts over to Scoop

link to MarquetteHoops.com - not that I ever do that.  It's just nice that I could link to Dodds' board if I wanted to.

A) This site does not over moderate.
B) Anybody who questions whether 4everwarriors is a Marquette fan is delusional.
C) There are far too many people on both boards that think it's sacrilege to criticize anything having to do with Marquette, Fr. Wild, the nickname, the basketball team, the coaching hire, etc. Frankly, it concerns me that a Marquette education suddenly connotes like-minded thinking.

Debate is the cornerstone of Democracy!

RedWebster: Glad you it took you only three days to crawl out of the Mifflin Street Bunker (located somewhere under the Kohl Center) to bring your UW perspective back to this board. Sorry for your loss.

Given his pattern of behavior of the years, there's no way any rational person that reads his posts could call him a fan of the program.

By definition, to be a fan you have to exhibit extreme enthusiasm and support for something....all he's ever shown was extreme distaste for anything MU related.

All I will say is that 4ever would be banned on Dodds' board before his 10th post.  The folks here are much more inclined to let people state their peace.

If Red is Abe is Dr. Manhattan, I'm going to Dodd's premium board.

The guys here do a great job.  Rather than criticizing them, we should be thanking them.  Last I checked, these guys aren't being paid.  Well, unless Rocky has come across some money recently...

Wow, seriously dude, I'm extremely disappointed in your post. My Marquette education taught me to be a critical thinker. I also learned to ask not only "why," but "why not." Does that make me less of a Kool-Aid drinking fan?
The truth is I've supported the Warriors in more ways and for far longer than most people on this board. Please don't question my loyalty, you'll just come across as ignorant. I'm a fan of the program and I love the University. Are they perfect? Absolutely not. That doesn't mean we have to settle for less, or does it? I'm proud to say I've earned two degrees at MU and I'm a faculty member as well. If you or others still contend I show "extreme distaste for anything MU related," then so be it.

Damnit, guys.  Come on.  Enough with the personal attacks, name calling, etc.

It's the Christmas season.  Santa is watching.  And it would be terribly ironic if I had to lock this thread about free speech!   >:(

We're all fans here.

Is this a bad time to mention Tyshawn Taylor is at Kansas, Iman Shumpert just got named ACC Rookie of the Week or that Dejuan Blair went to the same high school as Maurice Lucas.  ONLY KIDDING.!!!!

Mods keep it up with your excellent reviews.

Heavy censoring on this site?!? Puh-lease.

Don't like what someone says?

Hit this (http://www.muscoop.com/Themes/MUScoop/images/english/ignore.gif)
<---It's to your bottom left.

But the Mods WILL deal with issues IF they get out of hand. And we all know that it takes at least TWO people to make that happen. I just wish those TWO people take it to their PMs. (Click on someone's ID and find the personal message feature.)

Messageboards...It ain't THAT hard!  ;)

We'll walk hand in hand some day

i would like to start a motion to allow the only personal attacks allowed on the board to be in the form of calling someone a wiener.  it gets the point across, but no one can really get mad about being called a wiener.  infact, it will always make someone laugh.

anyone 2nd the motion?

So, does anyone know whatever happened to PRN? Did he get banned?

Like him or not, he stood by his ground, and I always found his posts as up for good debate. I honestly wish he'd start posting here again.

PRN has not been banned.  He retired the name himself.  Just to reiterate, very few posters get banned.  Opinions and criticism will not get you banned.  Excessive language, personal attacks and obvious drive by flaming will.

Exactly, if you look at the recent post thread to the left, 1/7 has to do with MU basketball and that is a stretch since Tyshawn Taylor plays for Kansas.
