Not me, but it's like heroin laced with fentanyl for my 10-year-old and his friends.

My 11 year old has been playing it every day for the past couple months.  I've played a few rounds.  The main draw for my son is he can talk to his friends while he plays.

That being said, all of them are terrible at the game.  I would find that frustrating.

If you look at a gaggle of boys in 5th grade, you won't go 30 seconds without seeing one of them "flossing" or doing "orange justice" .. both of which seem incredibly stupid.

I had him try PUBG on my tablet .. and he was awesome at it.  Nearly won his first round.  It seemed to be far easier, but maybe that had something to do with matchmaking .. maybe if he played it for a few hours, it'd get harder?

Yes... my 4 sons. It’s all they do and all they fight about. Personally I’d like to strangle the creators of the game

Ditto on the 11yr old son being addicted.

Funny story on the Fortnite dancing thing - during our preseason warmup tournament our dugout was chattering about the game instead of baseball.  We warned them that if they prioritize the video game over the baseball game we won't play them.  The next inning in the field 4 of them were doing the dances....we pulled them off the field with one out, replaced them with the two we had in the dugout, got absolutely abused with one outfielder, and have not heard a word about it for the last 3 months of ball.

I am so closed off to video games that I had no idea until this thread where that stupid dance came from.   Half of the team that  I coach and my 11 year old plays on does it.  Thanks for the input.

Ok, full circle.

My 12 year old has informed me after 18 trillion hours of Fortnite, he and his friends are over it.

Now they are lost.

What's the next big game that has a social aspect (headsets/mics) that is cross-platform?

Summer vacation is next week.  Time is of the essence to figure this out, or my sons will be forced to spend time outside playing frisbee or throwing a ball around and no one wants that kind of hassle.

In the grand scheme of things cross-platform is just now really becoming a thing.  Like the next COD made a big deal of the fact that they are allowing cross-plat.

If cross-platform is really necessary, maybe rocket league?  If cross-platform isn't that big of a deal, I dove deep into Warframe on switch a while back and found that enjoyable.  I forget if that had built in mic chat but the other platforms definitely will.

If they all have Xbox I would recommend Xbox Game Pass.  I'm sure $30 for a couple months of that will go a long way.

Firstly .. it is unfathomable to me why a game designer (of a game with a social aspect) would NOT do cross-platform.  You're instantly forcing your customers into platform-silos, and that doesn't work for most people, especially 10-20 year olds.

So yeah .. cross-platform is a dealbreaker.  These middle school kids are spread out, xbox, ps4, PC, Switch .. if no cross platform .. it's nearly worthless for these guys.

And yes .. they have xbox game pass .. it's needed for Fortnite.

Companies pay big money to developers for platform exclusivity.  That’s the only reason it happens outside some dev challenges that some platforms have.

Xbox Game Pass is not required for Fortnite, but Xbox Live is.

Xbox live is on the order of $60/year and required for online multiplayer and other online social aspects for any/all games.

Xbox Game Pass is on the order of $10/month and is basically Netflix for video games.  It's possible you already have both but just wanted to make sure you had that straight.

Nope.  Turned the PS5 on for the first time in many months and played some PGA Golf.  Match Point Tennis was decent.  I'll probably play some Show soon.  And then when the NBA starts up I'll buy 2K and play that for like 10 hours total.

Waiting on NCAA Football and hoping there's an NCAA Basketball to come.

I have it, but have only played to level 44 or so.  Went out of town for a week at release and by the time I got back most of my friends have stopped playing it.  Game doesn't QUITE feel finished.  I know they're working on it, and it hasn't been the disaster that D3 was to start, but I'm sure I'll pick it up again when new content drops.

Yep I agree with you. It's a very polished beta. Season 1 should start in a couple of weeks.

I've made it to ~71 on my main before petering out. The main story was great with wonderful acting. The endgame is a little sparse.

I went with a Necro and did a summoner build.  Feels like boring to play.  I should change it up, but everyone was playing bone spear... and I didn't want to just be another bone spear.   :-X

After a solid 5 year Fortnite binge, my 15 year old rarely plays now.

Now he plays Madden, but in a strange way.

He doesn't play with, you know, humans.  Instead he jacks up his team, plays the worst team, and proceeds to run up the score 300-0.   Over and over.   Every offensive play is a TD+2, nearly every defensive play is a loss or safety.

You can read all about it in this June's issue of Bad Parenting Monthly.

I've tried so hard to get into Necro since it's on meta, but I agree I'm just so slow. The sorc I'm teleporting around blowing crap up.

The Necro also bothers me since in PoE you can direct your minions to attack something. In D4 they are autonomous which is kinda boring.

When I was in college playing Madden they showed Rodgers's numbers to a point in the game and it showed that he was 14/13 for however many yards and touchdowns.  So I didn't throw the ball again in the game and the stats showed Rodgers finished with a 107.7% completion percentage.

There were also a couple years where a tight end post route was unstoppable.  So I had a game where Jermichael Finley ended with like 300+ yards and 6 TDs in an online game.  They used to make the game so easy to know whether a defense was running a blitz or staying back, so you could set your own audibles, stay in the same formations, and just switch between a pass or run play depending on how the defenders were sprinting up to or away from the line.  On top of that, they also would show your opponent's online record before it was too late to back out of the game.  So my roommates and I would always play teams that were like 5-100 and we'd just roll them for the first half before they quit.

Yeah that is definitely the problem.  They're stupid.  Even in D3 I think you could command the minions to go somewhere.  Now the active is just a buff which doesn't feel good to press.

One of my good friends does this, and she is 35.  She does the same with FIFA as well.

She is the biggest sore loser I know... so it sort of makes sense.
