Warrior 'roaches
« on: March 26, 2013, 06:48:31 AM »
Dana O'Neil in her (as usual) well written article, "Truly a Sweet 16 field for everyone", points out that 6 of the final 16 were not ranked in any preseason poll.

As we all know, this includes the Warriors. She he puts MU in the upstarts, if not altogether underdogs category. O'Neil points out the usual reasons for MU being upstarts ... loss of DJO, Crowder, etc.

Then she goes on to say, "Yet here Marquette is again, the cockroach of college basketball (and I mean that in a flattering way), back in the regional semifinals for the third consecutive year."

Frankly, this long time Warrior fan likes the reference to MU teams being like cockroaches. Putting aside the economic potential of T-shirts with 'roaches on them, I think it fits.

Forget Bulldogs, Grizzly Bears, Jack Rabbits, Weenie Eagles, and other weakling nicknames/maskots ... nothing outlasts, or outlives, the Mighty "roaches.

Cockroaches can wreak havoc on your property.

Without special know-how, cockroach control can be a losing battle.

Cockroaches are thought to outlast a nuclear war should one ever occur.

Cockroaches are fast.

Cockroaches can thrive without their heads for an extended period of time.

Sounds like Marquette hoops to me!

Cockroaches also struggle to hit long range jump shots.

On PTI yesterday, Kornheiser also "complimented" our lads, saying he can't figure out how we can't hit any shots for 38 minutes and then hit all of our shots for the final 2 minutes. He was in full high-decibel rant mode for about 30 seconds and it was quite funny.

Cockroaches is perfect.  What do they do?  Survive and advance.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Cockroaches can survive a nuclear bomb, such as Hiroshima. ;-)
