Best Sports Moment of 2017
« on: January 01, 2018, 01:16:35 AM »
What was everyone's favorite sports moment of 2017?

The Super Bowl was an awesome game.  A couple of the World Series games were incredible.  The comeback against Nova was awesome as a Marquette fan.

But Chris Chiozza's runner/floater/3 pointer/game winning buzzer beater (all in 1) at MSG over UW in the NCAA Tournament was incredible.

Not even #1 Marquette best sports moment.   May be the greatest in terms of celebration, but WBB winning the Beast is by far the best sports moment followed by MLX repeating in an upset.

In terms of pure entertainment, hard to beat the College Football National Title Game.

The University would disagree with you.  They ended their Year in Review video with the Nova win.

Love those participation ribbons. It was so great that MUBB peed down their leg in four of their next games. It was the best party, though.

Makin' the dance was a bigger "best sports moment" for the men. They strapped it on and finished the year.

My favorite 2017 sports moments were micro, not macro.   Watching the little league-based travel team I coached defeat a year round team.  Watching the eyes of one of my players who was hit in the helmet with a pitch turn from hurt little boy to 'I am gonna mess somebody up.'  Watching a kid get his first hit.  Watching 10 year old basketball players play great help defense or running an offensive set correctly leading to a lay up.  My son, the catcher, after tagging an opponent out to end the inning, stalking back to the dugout, looking me in the eye with a smirk and saying "next."

I love those moments.

Your fav moment was a contrived fight for publicity that both fighters were in on?  As big of a boxing fan and participant as you are, that whole fight and buildup should have been detestable.

It was, what would have been worse would have been an untrained, inexperienced MMA star beating the greatest *technical boxer of all time. I guess the reason it makes the list is because of the possibly disastrous results for boxing that were avoided.

I coached my last kids team 2 years ago and you are right, those are the moments I miss.  Working with a lesser player on something over and over again and then watching him or her come through in a game is the among the best feelings in the world.  Especially a kids first hit in baseball or first hoop in basketball.

  • Marquette win over Villanova (obligatory, but true)
  • Being present for the Tribe's 22nd Consecutive Win
  • Watching Air Force play Army in VB in the Pentagon
  • Seeing my daughter take the floor for the Hoyas for the first time (obviously, this will always be the most memorable for me)*

*Edited to add:  Seeing her play her "usual" position in a rare blow out and absolutely killing it.
