Coach Rab is out
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:42:37 AM »
No IU and no MU.   I'll miss his emails, but this is a good thing for many other reasons.

Coach Rab came after you left MU right?  I think he came in 2004-2005?

In addition to the baggage Rab brings, he was also Crean's biggest windbag.  I enjoyed the emails as well, but there was always a "Crean is the best coach in the land" paragraph.  It's best that Buzz builds his own team.

Rab was an assistant at Marquette as a favor to Kelvin Sampson, if that tells you anything. He had no other options than Marquette, which is why he was the only assistant who would put up with Crean for more than a very brief period.

Again, I have been telling you people this for years.

Then why was Rab such a POS when he would have difficulty finding a job elsewhere.?

ask the people in El Paso or Milwaukee that got to know him...

One of my issues with Crean was that he kept him on staff despite the issues or ignored the issues..

no doubt that he is a good talker, promoter, communicator though...

OK, I'm asking you guys now...what were Rab's issues?  What happened in El Paso?

Rab has a fondness for college girls.  It caused problems at UTEP, both with his team and with the administration, and led to his divorce.  It wasn't a Larry Eustachy type thing where he got drunk at a party, he was carrying on affairs and acting inappropriately with multiple UTEP students.  And if you hear Oklahoma people talk about it, it didn't just start when he went to El Paso, he had the same issues while an assistant at OU.

Admittedly that's not the only thing wrong with the guy, but that's the major reason he left El Paso.

Thank you, bma725, I've been scouring the web trying to find anything on this.

So I presume Rabs is unemployed at this time.  So there is no one left on Buzz's staff?  Anyone hear about when Buzz will start naming his staff?

I think Barone is still around, he was at the presser yesterday, so he may stay on.

Rumors are going around about Buzz's staff, supposedly we should know within a week or so.

He was on a radio show last night saying that he will take his time so that he can name the best staff possible.  I guess he isn't following the same path of his employer on this one.

I think Rab is like John Daly in many respects.  A very lovable guy.  Anyone that has had the pleasure of meeting Daly likes him, he's just that kind of gregarious guy.  Rab is like that in many ways too.  Good communicator, great sense of humor, etc.

He would be highly successful in many pursuits....HIGHLY successful because he has the gift of gab and he's likable.

But at a place like MU, well it's probably best that he is moving on.  Wish him the best.....as one of the best lines in Tommy Boy stated...."He could sell a ketchup Popsicle to a woman in white gloves!" but that doesn't mean he should have been on the staff for a number of reasons.

Leave it at that....wish him the best.

I can still remember the Villanova game this past season when Bill Raftery commented on Rab's "tavern league body". That was hilarious.

I wonder if still thinks Crean is all that? Seems like he's the big loser in all this changeover.

Kind of wonder if he'll end up at IU in a Director of Operations or Video Co-Ordiantor role?  On the other hand, IU has already hired a close friend of Sampson's in TC and a long-time Sampson assistant in Seltzer.  Having a 3rd Sampson-related guy might be a bit too much for IU?

For some reason I find it hard to believe Rab was getting ass from college girls. Unless a "tavern league" body can help you attract more girls these days than I thought.
