Kolek planning to go pro
12.2 posts a day. Somebody find this man a hobby.
He feels like a cut rate Devendorf to me. Some players just rub you the wrong way.
Well, he’s white, a guard, an opponent and a pretty good scorer. So there’s that. High effort guy, so there’s that, too. But I don’t see the dirty player aspect that Devendorf brought. I’d take him on my team.
Very solid analysis.
What really bothers me is the random officiating. I really felt like 2/3 of the fouls called (both ways, by the way) were totally random. The same exact thing was not a foul on previous and subsequent possessions.
Player stats yesterday don’t tell story of a great team win yesterday. Key contributions from a lot of guys in clutch spots, or they don’t win. Guys like Johnson and McEwen looking much more comfortable and relaxed in their roles. McEwen’s scoring has been very disappointing, but 9 assists, 1 turnover yesterday was very impressive. Hopefully he’ll find some semblance of consistency with his shot eventually. Until then, he certainly can impact games other ways. Keep building on these last two wins.
Depising someone because they play on a different team is probably not consistent with the values of Marquette University.
So, I am not perfect. Loathe Powell, loathed the collection of guards on last year's SJU team. Martin from Butler. Almost anybody who played for Huggins. Having said that, I will never wish an injury on an opponent. I just want Marquette to whup them.
Yep.In my opinion some people have Theo foul fatigue (rightly so) and don't want to keep blaming Theo and go after the refs. Now every game and every foul is different and needs to be treated as such for accuracy. But fouls are fouls. Jayce had a text book example when entry pass into lane, he was not able to keep Georgetown big out of lane. So two hands on back on catch. That is a foul, easy call.Moving your feet more, playing with your lower half more, trying to keep opposingbigs out of lane without fouling. Also, perimeter screens. Set the screen without fouling. If it is not successful, that is better than foul trouble. And, there is little need to foul a mid range big jumper.Jayce had 9 and 8 in 22 minutes or so. He had somw D challenges at times. Theo needs to avoid early foul trouble and get into some rythm. He had a nice catch and seal basket. A little more O is nice. But if he can be what he was on Nova game would be great. Rim protector without fouling and rebounder double digit.
Lots of high fiving with other MU fans in the corridors afterwards. MU82 was supposed to be stopping by to say hello at halftime but he was a no show.
I'm a big optimist, but I admit that when Jayce got #4 with 11-something left, I turned to the guy next to me and said, "Crap, we are so screwed." Nice work by the bigs to make it through till the end.
First off, I think it may help that the bigs now have to be conscious of committing fouls as your last sentence points out. But, if I recall, I don't think a single foul by Theo or Jayce was protecting the rim yesterday. That can't happen.Second, I'd like to see Wojo put on the spot and see what he can do if both guys foul out. Does he consider that possibility during practices? Does he ever have Cain and Bailey on the floor at the same time without a big during practice?Wojo has not shown in 5 years that he can coach "outside the box". Does he have to even consider that now?
I thought two of Theo's fouls today were total BS. I thought the same about two of Jayce's. I'm tired of guys reputations being used as justification for getting calls. If it's a foul call it. If it isn't don't. That goes for players on offense as well. McClung got several weak calls, while Markus had a three wiped off the scoreboard on another BS call. I'm glad Marquette won, but with Ed gone the team cannot afford to have Theo and Jayce getting unearned fouls. Especially against the better teams in the conference. Those calls could have very easily cost Marquette the Georgetown game.
There was also a couple of shaky screens set by them that were not called. I don't think they get an unfair whistle. The second foul on Johnson, where Yurtseven caught a ball in the middle of the lane with Johnson behind him, was iffy. But other than that, I really thought the fouls were fouls.
This kinda seems to be an unfair whistle and definitely not a foul.https://twitter.com/i/status/1218963987909554176
The refshow started when Breeding decided he needed to prove his alpha status and gave the MU bench a warning just minutes into the game. He quickly followed this up with calling Markus for an (awful) offensive foul on a 3 attempt. I believe he was still demonstrating that he's the top dog at that point as well.
