Both Dodd's board (GE 1974) and the Kohl Center Badger Basketball board are talking about rumors that the Hausers will not be going to UW.
Note that I said "rumors". Apparently the report is from Evan Flood but I have not found it. May be absolutely nothing to it, but we can hope.
-
;D
-
Both of the rodent boards are on Pre-Meltdown Mode, almost into full blown Meltdown ! ! ! ;D 8-)
-
The best thing all along would to have Sam stay and Joey go if he was not happy.
-
Potrykus did Gard no favors by putting out two articles claiming UW was in the driver's seat.
That said, it was a very real possibility up until the last minute. I thought for sure Sam was UW bound.
I gotta say, I'd pull my hair out as a college coach. Having your job be so dependent on the whims of HS and college kids would be infuriating.
-
Gard has already pulled his hair out.
-

+1000....if they are going to split up, which it sounds like they are, the absolute most logical thing is for Sam to comeback to MU, why sit ou a year, especially now if you aren't going to play with Joey anyway??
-
It seems the Badger boards probably have bigger concerns with the news I just saw in a Twitter post from Gary Parrish regarding UW asst. coach Howard Moore. :'(

The rumor from Evan Flood was that someone on the 247 board said something along the lines of Mrs. Hauser hates Wisconsin and has convinced them to go elsewhere and Evan confirmed it. As expected, the Badger fans are already trashing the boys and the family (not that there wasn't some of that here)
This smells real to me. Would assume it means Joey to MSU and Sam to UVA. Can hold out hope that one or both of them have decided to return but wouldn't hold my breath.
-
I’m holding out hope they come back lol. I think Wojo should at least reach out to Sam and make a pitch that it’s best for him to come back. Joey will be a good to great college player in time but may be better off finding a better fit.
-
This has been the most all over transfer. At various points, all three schools have been perceived as "locks" while the announcement date has changed like 5 times now.
The one thing I'll say at this point is it looks like Steph Hauser is the true legend.

Whatever is said on any Badger board probably pales in comparison to what has been said here about the boys and their family over the past month.

Sadly, no.

No. Scoopers are paragons of restraint in comparison.

I find it interesting that Izzo was in Milw and sitting courtside for the Bucks playoff game, last week Fri..After the Hauser boys "silent verbal" call to Gard on Wed..Hmmmmm .... BTW, also interesting that I saw Gard at Bucks game on Thurs and was not Courtside, but sitting in the upper section of Sect 119.... 8-)

Why even stoop to the level of saying Sam should stay?

Stephanie Hauser, you are an absolutely wonderful Mom! Absolutely wonderful. Now, cement your legacy as an all time great Mom and tell Sam to get his ass back to MU. :)
-
Why even stoop to the level of saying Sam should stay?
An opportunity to finish his career with future legend, Wojo.
-
Why even stoop to the level of saying Sam should stay?
Why is this stooping to a level? I mean I guess you shouldn't tell college students what to do with their lives, but I think saying that Sam should stay at MU is at an equal level to saying that they should go anywhere else.
-
There goes the Badgers self proclaimed National Championship in 2020-2021
-
Good news if true. But I’m not gonna believe it until they sign elsewhere.
UW is the destination until confirmed.
Having said that, Wojo should be ok the horn to Sam today. Finish as a 1,500 point scorer. Go down as an MU legend.
-

This sounds desperate. Their minds were made up weeks ago. Let it go.
-
The only evidence provided for why they were definitely going to UW was a group of fans' gut feelings and sour grapes.
I love Madison, I lived there for a few years. Even dated someone there! Doesn't mean I'm moving back. Also doesn't mean I'm going to force my brother to move there with me, especially when he is way more needy/particular than me.
-
Can Markus and Sam just make-up and let Joey move on. Markus take a ride to Stevens Point and work it out, you really want to sit out next year, makes no sense.
-

Didn't you say their minds were made up to go to Wisconsin a few weeks ago? Minds change eh?

No shice wojo should reach out but doubt if he will. He does not want to destroy the great chemistry he has instilled in the MU culture
-
That ship has sailed, guys. I'm just glad they didn't end up there. And let's be honest, whichever way it shakes out with UVA and MSU, they're upgrading.
-
Evan Flood has been wrong on so many things related to recruiting with Wisconsin over the years so why is everyone getting all excited? This really is a recruiting situation.
On the Howard Moore situation, absolutely terrible. Unbelievably sad.
-
Joey to MSU and Sam to UVA

And the Beat goes on.

No offense to you in anyway, but 24 hours ago...Sam at least was a lock to UW, and look what happened now?? To say that ship has sailed...with recruiting, you just never know. But I agree with you, this is absolutely the best outcome if he wasn't going to stay at MU. I'm good with wherever he decides to go now, although again, I much prefer he be at MU.

I like the athletic make up of the team for the coming season. We are going to be a formidable defensive team and will still have plenty of offensive weapons. So while I am sad the brothers left, I would rather see them find what they are looking for and let MU find its own path to greatness.
-

They didn’t end up there based on one rumor?
-
This is awesome badger fans arrogance.
I have a suspicion - totally guessing, no insider knowledge or anything - that over the past week somebody (or their own consciences, who knows) asked them something along the lines of "Are you sure you want to deal with a) the pressure of being 'saviors' of a recruiting class for the entire state, and b) the frothy rage of Marquette fans in general all the time and directly once a year?"
Wouldn't surprise me if those nagging questions started to gnaw at them.
How about they did not want to play for a crappy system, one that does not develop NBA players, and destined for the bottom half the big 10-12-14 with the recruits Gard can get.
-
Hope Sam comes back.
-
Hope Sam comes back.
Me too. Possible, but not probable. Any idea on how this would happen? A lot of people would need to agree post divorce. The letter (assuming it did exist) and the Hausers departure shortly after Markus said he was coming back are just 2 reasons I said "not probable." Wojo, Markus, and the rest of the team would be involved. That's assuming Sam is even interested. But hey!- if Evan Flood's account proves true, some really strange things have already happened. Never say never.
-
This whole rumor mill thing has been a blast. The last I heard, Sam wanted to go to UVA and Joey to MSU, but their mom wanted them to go to Madison. Now we hear it’s the opposite. I can’t wait for the rumor that their mom really wanted them to stay at MU. ::)
Glad to hear the Bucky boards are going apoplectic...although I thought that was a normal day for them.

We really need corroboration. Anybody have something to offer? The Hausers' long announcement delay is strange and as much as I like the story that they are not going to UW, I wish we had corroborating evidence so that it moves beyond a rumor.

I doubt Potrykus publishes it if there were still a chance they were going to Madison.

I think the actual headline of the JS article is “Sources: Hauser brothers no longer plan to transfer to Wisconsin. #mubb #Badgers”
I love the audacity of “no longer plan” like it was ever formally announced. I hope this public meltdown continues.

It was never the plan. It was an option. The third one at that. I’m calling BS on the “verbal” last week as well.
Edit: and not quite a minute after I submitted this post Goodman confirms what I just said.
-
I still think Izzo in town was telling to me. I even told my wife, I bet Joey goes to MSU... Just sayin'.... 8-)
-
This is getting ugly for UW.
https://twitter.com/goodmanhoops/status/1132474671834775553?s=21
-
I find this quite amusing. The Badger community goes from “they are for sure coming here” and “they verballed to Gard” to “ they aren’t coming here because their mom won’t let them” and “Steph Hauser is keeping her adult boys from their dream school.” And all of this without one single word from the Hausers. The combination of frantic fans and tangential “insiders” allowed an entire narrative to rise and fall in the course of about a week. Social media is amazing, isn’t it?
-
Figurin' on SMU and Tulane. Horse a piece on who goes wear, aina?
-
I'm enjoying that they aren't going to Bucky, but this whole Hauser transfer thing has been just bizarre. It was crazy that they decided to transfer in the first place.
Then, when their transfer was announced they said they were going to keep playing together. Now they're splitting up? Why even transfer in the first place??
And you don't want to play at UW? Totally understandable, but why split up? There are plenty of other high major programs in the country that would have gladly taken both of them. So now they're going to sit out a year and play separately. What a freaking weird deal.
-
Hope Sam comes back.
I don't!
-
1. They left MU....that sucked.
2. They are most likely not going to UW...that’s awesome.
3. If #2 is true, I don’t care if they split up or play together.......makes no difference what so ever.
-
I think their “wet finger” in the wind blew up on them. They were getting chit either way. One, for announcing the transfer and two, all the bs on why, what, where and who. I believe they under estimated the blow back.
I know the initial word was udub then the chit hit the fan. Because no official word came out, it’s easy to say, well, they never committed to anything. They should have waited until the semester was officially over, but with the announcement of the transfer and a week or so of classes and finals left, ya probably could have cut the tension with a chainsaw. Im gonna guess they didn’t do too well on their finals
-
Given the fact that UW is allegedly out, where could they legitimately go now.. Is it down to MSU or UVA?
-
Who cares where they go! The Hausers are dead to me!!
-

I think you are absolutely correct here. But they leave MU for a National Champ and a Final Four team from last year. It still worked out.
-
Ah, the badger board idiots and their ability to get all lathered up with the nonsense of “silent verbals” from their lead idiot (ETR) and cheerleader media (potrykas, oates, lucas). And I struggle to actually call Oates real media.
Like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football each time Lucy pulls it away.
How long do we have to wait until we hear about the Jalen Johnson “silent verbal?”
-
Accepting the premise that it was the mother who forbade them from going to Wisconsin, and I fully accept that it is both hearsay and a huge reach, the question becomes 'why'?
My answer to the theoretical.... Still hasn't gotten over Bo leaving Sam hanging AND THEN the way Bucky message denizens trashed her family.
-
Wow that was some Sunday reading. I'd like to get a string diagram of all their sources over there. Everyone has 3 it seems and they all said the same thing. Pretty sure it's probably just one guy close to the program (who has been right a lot before) who get's a little excited about what he thinks he hears (Hauser's called and they are excited about Wisconsin = Silent Verbal!) and spreads it out.
Ranking of top thoughts over there has to go something like:
1. MU donors paying off Hausers not to go to MU! + multiple people are buying into the theory, mostly because they can't prove otherwise.
2. They were basically a 20/21 National Championship contender with them. Also Jalen Johnson was going to come there for his one year because of the Hauser dominoes.
3. Steph is some combination of B, helicopter parent, grudge holder, and evil dictator (like the one on the TNT commercials) of the Hauser family. Also, according to sources (good sources), Izzo called her a B.
Honorable mention for: Didn't want the pressure of being saviors of UW + MU scorn, Academic/Admission problems holding things up (MU credits hard to transfer in to such a prestigious university), The nerve to do this on the day of the Moore news shows what kind of people they are, Did this on purpose to hurt UW recruiting (according to sources in Point).
-

Below is purely theoretical also:
Maybe something simple and non-nefarious. Mom knew the first time around that Sam really wanted to go to Virginia, and Joey wanted to go to MSU, but they went to MU because they thought their mom wanted to watch them play together. Come a 2nd decision, they were going to try to placate family by going to UW to play together. Mom stepped in and said don't go to UW for us. Go to where you want, for what is best for you.
Kids took her up on the offer.
-
Reading that board confirms that I chose the right alma mater to support.

Looks like a total misplay on their part. Maybe the brotherly love just wasn’t that strong. Why would Sam transfer? His hate for MH and Wojo was that strong, maybe I guess. Now he waits an extra yr to play pro (it will not be NBA) maybe Euro. Does anyone really think 2 yrs at UVA is going to make him a first or second round NBA pick. I don’t because you can’t teach speed or quickness. The best thing he developed was that beautiful turn around jumper in the lane. He now does not know what his PT will be at UVA, and they are a blue blood and will get talent. Perhaps that’s why they separated because they would potentially eat into each other’s PT. That was not going to happen next yr at MU. MH was not going to handle the ball anywhere near as much next yr as he did this yr. what a dream to have a true ball handler driving and feeding the shooters. We haven’t seen that much in recent yrs at MU. UW also didn’t make sense to me if Johnson goes there because for the one yr he was going to take significant PT and guess which 2 would have lost the PT. Also why would Joey want to ever play with the nutcracker??

Knit picking here, but UVA has 10 fewer NCAA appearances and the same number of FF and titles as us. TB has done great there but they aren't a blue blood.

The term blue blood gets thrown around too much. There are 4 Blue Bloods Kentucky, Duke, UNC, and Kansas.
2 former UCLA and Indiana
And then the very good UConn, Arizona, Villanova, Louisville, MSU, and a few knocking on the door.

Best of luck, young men.

Silent verbals are the best. Cause it allows them to champion their desirableness and their program’s recruiting chops, but then also trash and lay all the blame on a 17 year old kid when they end up elsewhere. UW couldn’t have done anything else, they crushed it, hence why they got a silent verbal. Thus it has to be money, academics, or terrible parents

How are they in the last 10 years? Kids don’t care about 20+ years ago anymore. “I’m going to UCLA because they were dominant when my grandpa was in college” isn’t something kids are saying these days.
UConn is closer to blue blood status than MU, IU, UCLA are right now and they’re in disarray as a program.

UConn will be fascinating to watch from afar. As much as any school, their identity was tied to the Big East. I know they won a title in ‘14 as a member of the AAC but as far as unlikely title winners, that squad is way up there. It could be a good league but there is a lot of garbage there.
They could also have been a product of their coach as well. Ollie won a title after Calhoun but that held little cache in recruiting.
-

Silent verbals do happen. Players commit but for one reason or another want to delay the announcement. Many recruits want to at least inform the other coaches recruiting them before going public.
That being said, when "insiders" start claiming on public forums that players have given a silent verbal, I'd guess it's bullshiit 95%+ of the time. Any insider that posts that kind of information on a public forum would not be an insider much longer.
-

Delusional.
Maybe before Kevin Ollie was fired for "just cause". Ollie had a one year NCAA ban for low academic progress and then was let go for recruiting violations. Couldn't have kept things going without either type of misdeed. Last year they lost their best recruit to Georgetown. How'd Wojo get Samir away from them? They have dropped a long way from their recent Natty.

And most silent verbals stay silent. Except on buckyville where they use mythical silent verbals to convince themselves every player they want is going to Bucky and then trash them when they don’t.

Yep. The only way they are “closer“ is in time, as they were considered a blue blood much more recently than we were. But in terms of their ability to recruit blue chip stars, we are better-positioned than UConn is right now.

New coach Hurley is doing a good job for U Conn. Last year was his first season. Has some momentum on the recruiting trail now. Signed a solid 2019 class including one guy, Jalen Gaffney, MU was keen on.

What makes a “blue blood?” 4 titles in the last 20 years? 5 final fours in the last 20 years? If so then they are closer than MU, IU and UCLA right now. Blue blood is a fickle term, thanks for making my point.
And blame Calhoun, not Ollie, for the APR issue.

Thanks Herman. You've shared more than I would have been able.
Everyone locally seems to be super happy with Hurley. Record was the same, but the eye test showed the team playing significantly better.
