Haanif
Duane
JJ
Henry
Luke

The Engine, Sandy, Wally should bring great energy off the bench. Let's go MU!

There is this really loud lady who sits near them every game.  Kudos to her enthusiasm, but her cheer is both loud and distinct.

Our starting lineup had loads of size and length on them.

Can't hit a jumper. And that missed rebound was costly.

Luke and Duane with fouls

not a bad half. team is young. tough game to start with.

have to say though I just don't see how people think henry is one and done. a solid freshman but he is really going to have to pick it up if he is gonna be a one and done guy

Second half will be about coaching a young team.
Title: Re: Belmont Game Thread
Post by: tower912 on November 13, 2015, 08:52:12 PM
First half thoughts:
1.  Lots of motion and energy on offense.   Need to convert layups.
2.  Looking awfully young and inexperienced on defense.    All Belmont is doing is pick and roll, drive, kick, drive, kick, shoot.
3.  Henry is good.
4.  Haanif is going to be good.
5.   If MU doesn't tighten up on D, they lose by 15.

I agree. He looks good, not great. Kind of heavy legged, if that makes sense. Really, really like him.

Very impressed with Cheatem offensively. Cohen looks great. We look good, even though we are losing. I suspect we will win this game.

Feels like a new era has arrived.

They gotta move the ball around to the weak side and take more advantages of the double on Henry.

Post by: Warriorfish on November 13, 2015, 09:01:37 PM
Team is young, but they also don't look particularly well coached.

And nobody has to worry about Henry being a one-and-done.  Or two-and-done, for that matter.  He'll be a nice, solid player, but he plays much slower than I expected.

There is talent on this team. Coaching is lacking. Waaaaaaay too many threes taken. Had a clear advantage on the front line. Henry or Fischer should have touched the ball every possession. That is coaching, folks. He can recruit, but I have yet to see anything from wojo in game. Reminds me of Crean. Belmont is solid, but this was a winnable game.

Yep.  Total disarray in crunch time.  Freshman can only learn through good coaching and they didn't get it tonight.

Wojo was a new coach so he got slack last season.  But not all good recruiters are good in-game coaches.

We have zero seniors and played our freshmen quite a bit. Duane has to stop thinking he is Steph Curry and the late-game coaching has to be a little better, but this team is going to fun to watch and dangerous in February/March.

With the way MU played late in games last season and now with the way they played late in the game tonight, the questions about whether Wojo is a good in-game coach are legitimate.

These are very different rosters but the disarray was the same.

You expect one game of a team full of freshman and a season of Buzz's cast-offs to be a legitimate gauge of Wojo's in-game coaching? I think you're overreacting.

Except on the last play when Carter booted the ball out of bounds, he was going to the baseline and it looked like we had someone floating to the opposite corner for what would have been an open 3. He takes one more in control dribble and we probably get off a good shot for the lead.

This board is just unreadable after losses. So much emotion and drama. We sound like a bunch of high school girls.

Matt Carlino's winner against Creighton stands out in my memory. Seton Hall on the road last year. Georgia Tech ended close, but we were comfortable for much of the second half. More close losses than wins, but bear in mind how much of that was last year's team, which simply wasn't very good.

We Still are short of "Gunners" from three pt. land. I think we will be all right. Can see Henry
still needs game improvement. This is college not H.S. Liked Bradds and Bradshaw. We had
freshmen playing first game. Belmont is a good  team, but we kept coming back on them which
was abright spot. It's how we ended the game that really hurts.

All good points. When it comes to losing a close one, I love looking back at the 2009-10 season. We started out 0-4 in games decided by 5 points or less. After edging Georgetown at home, we lost 3 more such contests to push our record in 5 point games to 1-7.

Then we beat UConn on the road by 2, Providence on the road by 3, and had that awesome run of 3 straight road wins in overtime by a combined 6 points. Finished the season 8-9 in games decided by 5 points or less, going 7-2 in those games after the 1-7 start. That was a season where we had to learn how to win in the clutch and we did (though unfortunately not against Washington when it mattered). There will be bumps in this road, but you can see the potential on this team. They just need to learn how to better manage late game situations.
