I would go turn of the century baseball style and name us the bats because of that one time there was a bat on the court. No one else is using a bat as a mascot, so thats unique, and its something even tangenitally related to Marquette, unlike a golden eagle. Also bats are pretty cool, as far as animals go.

I can see Count Dracula sucking the blood of our opponents. Not bad.

I’d be prefer not to have Bo Ryan associated with Marquette basketball.

It would be interesting to see how they worked that into the color scheme, because the blue and gold seems like something that is never leaving.

That was the case after the Gold debacle probably until about the end of the Buzz era, but the Eagle is making a comeback. Naming the mascot Iggy, creating new cartoon versions of him, the logo popping up more. It seems like they are finally embracing it a bit. I think it would be a great time for a true Eagle logo refresh.

I'm also in the minority in thinking Gold was a perfectly fine option. It seemed odd at the time (cue that iconic pic from the announcement) but eventually it would've been no different than how Heat, Thunder, or Jazz were received, all more abstract concepts than mascots. Hell, Stanford makes Cardinal work with a damn tree mascot, Gold would've been just fine.

Something like this, but i'd take the different colors used down to 3 or 4.

While we are picking new mascots, are we bringing back football too?

If they had simply put the original Golden Eagle in a Blue Letter sweater it would have tied the old and the new. Instead they had it in full uniform with basketball shoes etc. It looked new and stupid instead of traditional and classic.

Go back to the Warrior swinging the tomahawk. That would bring in the booster dollars and the old folks.

At this point I have to imagine there’s more Golden Eagle alumni than Warrior alumni.

That’s a disturbing thought.  Not sure it’s true though. I say NO.

This year will be the 30th year of Golden Eagles.

Before that there were 40 years of Warriors.

I’m assuming there was smaller enrollment in those 40 years and more people have died from that Warrior group.

If it hasn’t happened yet, it’s close.
